Dancin' Shoes

I've worked on the backing tracks off and on for several weeks. This is where I decided I'd done all I could do with it. Open for any suggestions to make it better - other than get another singer. I already know that!

Di and I both have been very ill the past ten days or so but hope to get back to more listening and commenting real soon. She's been in the hospital with it once and I probably should have been. But, someone has to keep the lights on and the dog fed.

Dancin’ Shoes
© 2017 Alan D. David, BMI / Diana Randall, BMI

(v1)
We’re sitting here at home and it’s eight o’clock on Friday night
Let’s pull out some vinyl and turn down the living room lights
A little Bob Seger and some Eagles sounds about right

(v2)
Heartache Tonight is a song that I simply adore
Blame It On The Moon would always get me out on the floor
We’ll put on our dancin’ shoes and boogie till four

CHORUS
Push back the couch and open up the living room floor
We’ll have a little party and invite the neighbors next door
Today’s rock and roll don’t move me, it just gives me the blues
We’ll spin those old records and put on our dancin’ shoes

INSTRUMENTAL BREAK

CHORUS
We can push back the couch and open up the living room floor
We’ll have a little party and invite the neighbors next door
Today’s rock and roll don’t move me, it just gives me the blues
We’ll spin those old records and put on our dancin’ shoes
Alan,

Well done!

You've got that Seger sound going good. (Though, for his stuff the piano would be up just slightly more, I think).

A well written rocker. Your vocal is terrific - I like it...it's "weathered" - you definitely don't need someone else...

Good mix. A good listen. Enjoyed it.

Y'all get well!

fj
Some great rock you have going on here aAl. You definitely a great song writer. Enjoyed my listen. Get well soon. Rob
I'm smilin' you old Rocker you!! I thought this was a Skynyrd song firing up when it started! You can do any genre you try Alan! Great job! Thanks, T
IMHO the way to make it better would be to leave it as is!

You can sing rock and should sing it more often. Great song, great mix and great vocals.

But first and foremost I hope you and Di are doing much better now.
Funny, "Get a singer" never once popped into my head. (And my inner critic isn't shy).

I enjoyed the listen! Hope you're doing better.

Hi Floyd,

Thanks a bunch. "Weathered", eh??? You mean an old fart!!! I appreciate your comments on the vocal. And I think you're right about the piano could b a little more prominent. Thanks for the suggestion and kindness.

Hi Torrey,

Thank you so very much! I pretty much like all genres and writing in each one as each has its own challenges. I appreciate the listen and all those really nice comments. Best to you.

Hi Mario,

Many thanks, my friend! Rock never was my strong suit - either as a vocalist or musician. But I'm glad this one works. I'm getting somewhat better but Di is really struggling - had to take her to ER today. But we appreciate the thoughts. Best to you.

Hi David,

Thanks so much for the encouragement with your really nice words. And I know your inner critic speasks its mind - and that's what I like. As told Mario, I'm getting a little better but Di isn't doing very well at all. Thank you for the well wishes - we sincerely appreciate them.

ALan
It's a cool song and the distorted slide suits is well.
Personally I'll pull the organ back for the most part - pop it up at the end of verses & choruses and balance the piano with rhythm guitar but that's me being old fashioned I think.
I reckon the vocal fits in well too.
Good one - I enjoyed it.
I can't think of anything to make it better...
It sounds great as it is...
You've done a wonderful on this one & you vocal delivery fits it well!
In times of trouble, trusting in the Lord and making good music is the best medicine we can have.
Merry Christmas
This is an awesome tune Alan. Definitely got my dancing shoes on. Vocal was just excellent. Your guitar work was just superb. Loved the slide. Crazy tone. The solo was just awesome. What a cool song..
Al,

As you can tell from other posters... let`s hear no more of that "other singer"line; this
rocker Al guy sounds fine!
Your infallible ear for a classic sounding song shows up again- this is excellent rocker.

Robert
Now don’t go and hurt yourself! Makes a body want to move. Great band and you seem to squeeze all the tone out those BIAB instruments. Well sung in your uniquely convincing way. Good one, Tom
Alan,

This sounds great - love your voice on this! Very cool mix and arrangement.

I really enjoyed this one. smile

Bob
I just slipped back into the halcyon days of yore listening to this song. Great rocker. All the instruments meld together well with the grizzled rocker vocals. cool
Well that was brilliant, you been hiding the rock n roll side of you.

I honestly in a foot tapping way enjoyed this.

Thanks

Hello Ray,

Thanks a bunch for the listen and your input on the mix. I'll rellok the organ. Best to you.

Hey Scott,

Glad you found your dancin' shoes! I appreciate all the nice comments. Actually, the guitar track is an RT - I liked it better than what I was able to do. Best to you.

Robert,

Many thanks for chiming in and for the really nice comments. I played a lot of this music, plus a lot of country, for many, many years. As I've said many times, I like almost all genres of music. MNy philosophy os, for the most part, there's not a lot of bad music ... just decent music played poorly. Best to you.

Howdy Tom,

Haven't hurt myself yet. Almost 72 years old and only been in the hospital twice - when I got shot up in Vietnam and when they removed the tumor in my colon a few years back. I used to dance a lot - contrary to most musicians - and I'm actually a pretty decent dancer. Never hurt myself dancing - yet!

Glad ya liked it - thanks for letting me know. wishing you the best,

Alan

Hello Ez,

Those were some pretty good times to to be transported back to - at least for me they were. I was playing in a band 25 - 28 nights a month and bringing in some serious green. And having a great time doing it. My voice is the aonly thing that's grisled at my age - mostly the stuff between my forehead and my toes. Many thansk for the listen ad very nice comments. Best to you.

Howdy!

Thanks for listening and commenting so nicely. I sure do appreciate it. I've never had a comfortable feel with rock - either as a musician or vocalist. But sometimes ya just gotta do it! Wishing you the best.

Alan
Alan, no apologies needed for any of this...you hit the "style" ball right out of the park!
Nicely architected track, elements hitting on all cylinders to get our juices flowing and feets moving'.

Only feedback I could provide is that it sounded like your vocal got drowned out in a couple of places by the strong instrumentals..you could bring the voice forward a bit.

Other than that, really enjoyed listening, and I like the wide diversity of your musical interests!

Thanks!
Good rock and roll write, Alan! Track sounds great and I actually think your vocal is pretty good.

Sounds like something Bob Seger might have done back in the day, enjoyed the listen!

Hi Tano,

Thank you very much! Good to know it checks off a couple of the basics. As far as the vocal mix ... I went back and listen to a couple of Bob Seger songs, sine that's the feel I get for this one, and found the vocals were slightly buried - sane with some of the Eagles song. Butr, I could always bring more forward in my mix. Thanks for the suggestion! Best tyo you.

Hello Dave,

Thanks a bunch! Several other folks, on and off the forum, have suggested the Bob Seger reference. so I guess that's an accurate analogy. I didn't set out to make a "Seger-sounding-song" but it just kind of evolved in that direction as I added and subtracted various backing tracks. Glad ya l8ked it - thanks!

Alan
I like it!! Love the sentiment! I like the nod to Bob Seger, especially since hit Old Time Rock and Roll reflects the same feeling. Well written, well produced! Nice one!! Take care. Greg

Well done and fun!

Thanks Greg! Glad you enjoyed it! I never was a big Seger fan (neither liked or disliked him) but this one just gravitated in that direction. best to you!

Alan,

Very nice rock'n'roll.
As Scott says, definitely I also want to wear my dancing shoes on.
You are a good rocker.
The distorted slide perfect fits this.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hi Alan,

there's definitely no need to be that self-critical ! It's just another great song of yours with a perfect backing track, great, great work on the guitar(s) and to me your vocals fit in perfectly.

I wouldn't change a jot, it's just awesome that way and I love it!

Take care,

Stefan

Hello Stefan!

You are much too nice, as always! I really appreciate those very kind words! I'm not much of a singer but play a pretty decent guitar - well, used to before focal dystonia messed up my fingers. But I still pick out a decent tune one on a while! Merry Christmas to you and Maha.
