Judgment Day

By David Snyder

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs2/judgment-day

V1

Every time I watch the t.v.
They’re putting up another fence
From the White House to the border
Nothing but hate and violence
And when I see the face of evil
I can tell it hasn’t changed
He died his hair another color
But he still talks and acts deranged

CH

And oh baby
We have to find another place
And oh baby
We can’t wait on Judgment Day

V2

Seven Riders are approaching
For the First Apocalypse
Oh God in heaven please forgive us
Will be the words on everybody’s lips

CH

And oh baby
I don’t know what else to say
And oh baby
We can’t wait on Judgment Day
And oh baby, we both know that that’s too late

Bridge

I need to know that someone’s listening
Cause I can’t go this one alone
I need to know the cross is empty
And that they rolled away the stone

V3

So I’ll keep praying and believing
And I’ll imagine all I want
I’d rather dream that there's a heaven
Cause we have nothing if we don’t

CH

And oh baby
I don’t know what else to say
And oh baby
We can’t wait on Judgment Day
And oh baby, we both know that that’s too late

Excellent song David. A lot of Dylan vibe. One of your best.

Wow! A bit apocalyptic but definitely hittin' home.

This is one of your best vocal performances...really emotive and strong.

Get kind of an updated Blonde On Blonde vibe...

Excellent!

Well done! Straightforward arrangement, good write, good mix, nice singing.

But... I always thought there were Four Horseman of the Apocalypse? wink

David,

I liked everything about this. Affirmation in the ruins... with great vocals and jangly guitars!
Cool and then some.

David,

I really like the direct, straight-forward write and vocal delivery. One of your best vocals and a stellar arrangement. Great song, great message, great delivery. You really shine on this one. Best to you.

I like the way your voice soars on "And oh baby." What a great sound with your instrumentation: the guitars seem to swirl and surround me, causing me to see the music in colors. Great lyrics too. So true, so true.

David,
the angst, near despair and hurt are well depicted in this song.
Desperate times, desperate acts, desperate hope and desperate measures are better than despair.
Your playing really kicked this along.
Well done.
I had to come back - I'd walked around the house singing the chorus in my head for an hour!!!
There's some good Tom Petty in this as well.
Good Ear Worm!!

Dear David,

what a song... Great write, killer lyrics and your graat vocals are perfect with the song. And like always very well-produced. Superb job !!!

David,

Stunning. Jaw-droppingly good.

This is a truly excellent write. Not a single word out of place.

Nice arrangement. Tasty stuff added at the right times. Good drum sound. The strings are cool. I thought the bass could have been just a touch "beefier" (but I can hear it fine).

Your vocal is really nice. It has heart.

A big WOW, Mr Snyder. I like everything about this.

YOUR. BEST. EVER.

Thanks Joe!

I so appreciate you pointing out the "timbre." I worked really hard on that and struggled with it forever before I got it right.

It came down to getting an exact sound on the acoustics, and then using a very specific amp sound with my stratocaster playing several parts.

Thanks for noticing man!!

Great song David! I totally agree with J&B that this is one of your best vocal performances, it just seems to be right in your wheelhouse! In my opinion one of your top songs! Thanks, Torrey

David,

Agree this is one of your best, and also one of your best vocals.
It's all coming together really nicely on this one!
Really top notch.

Hi David,

Wow! You've certainly upped the song-writing ante with this creation and your arrangement and presentation of it.

As I sat here listen, these are some of the thoughts that appeared in my mind...

  • completely from the heart and full of heart
  • a wonderfully planned arrangement with an excellent emotional contour
  • lyrics that ring with sincerity and honesty
  • excellent imagery
  • vocals that soar... especially the chorus
  • everything about this pulls me right into the mix

You've done a great job with this!

All the best for you and your family this Christmas and New Year,
Noel

Another nice one David... great writing!

Dear Mr. Snyder...

Your mournful song, "Judgement Day", succeeded in casting dark shadows over my usually hopeful, optimistic soul, so I'll check-off the "emotionally stirring" category. Your lyrics have a scenic power that is vivid as memories that are too strong to fade, which allows me to check-off "good story-telling" from the list. And, finally, the "message" I perceived in your song, while fateful in its warning, nonetheless has the latent possibility of spurring all of us into action, and that makes me happy to check-off the "yes, there is hope, children" line, and get right down to the work of making it real.

Pensively,

LOREN

What a super vocal David. What a cool story in the lyrics. The backtrack was just perfect bed for the song. Well done. One of my favorites of yours.
Posted By: David Snyder Re: Judgment Day - 12/15/18 09:26 PM
Thanks David! Well, I guess I could have said "the horsemen are approaching..." for...

but...I guess I just didn't feel like it man.

Bob Dylan was always inventing his own apocalyptic landscapes and didn't seem to care if it was exact as long as it sounded good, so I said, heck, I can too!

Besides, I didn't say horsemen, I said riders, and I think the number Seven is scarier.

Plus, I said the FIRST Apocalypse which is the one that is happening NOW ahead of time, where in the Snyder mythology, there are Seven Riders.

Some have asked if these are the Seven Deadly sins, which can all be attributed to one famous person, or an allusion to the Seven Celtic Kingdoms which are coming to seek bloody vengeance for the destruction of their villages and Celtic grave sites to build golf courses. Will there be a movie on Netflix called the Seventh Kingdom where we see a Celtic battleaxe covered in blood and weird hair lying on a golf course in the opening shot??

Others wanted to know if it refers to the Seven Vestal Virgins.

I say:

Think about it.

Just think about it.

Nice one David

I know nothing about the subject (I always thought there were Four Horseman of the Apocalypse ), but I do know about the song arrangement and the vocals.

And also the feel of your soul that you have in this song, that is where it matters the most when posting a song of this nature.

I do think the vocals was one of your best, if not thee one.

Take care.

Yes, this is an excellent song, and production, I love the way you bring in the extra instruments shortly after the beginning, adds a layer, and then you do it again on the seven riders are approaching. That is kind of a mix of the 4 horsemen and seven seals in the same area of Revelation. Vocal is top notch here. Great song David Cliff

David, great work on this one...I'll echo some others...I really liked the "ooo baby" soaring line, excellent!
Looking at your production notes, looks like you played a lot of this directly--I'm so impressed!
Overall sounds very polished and complete.
Well done in all respects!
Thanks for making and sharing!

Robert,

Affirmation in the ruins!

Cool, great phrase!

I will have to work that into a song. Thanks for the listen man. You certainly have been on a roll this year.
Posted By: HearToLearn Re: Judgment Day - 12/18/18 10:24 AM
I have always felt the saying "expect the unexpected" was overused. Especially in the 80's. However, I have come to really appreciate that saying when it comes to you. There are times, and this was one of them, that I had an idea of how this song would go. I was WAY off. I thought it was going to be faster and convey a strong stance type of sound. I came across as humble and a "pondering" kind of song.

Anyway, I love the feel of this song. The melody is outstanding! Actually, I would say the whole song it.

This is easily one of the coolest lines. I love it!

Great song David!

Ezekiel,

Thank you so much. You really made my life there!

I was really trying to get that Synesthesia effect going on and I am so glad you picked up on that. I struggled with a lot of sound colors to pull that off.

Thanks so much for "seeing it."

Great work as always!
The melody is very nice.
Your actual performance and the performance of other tracks are blending together perfectly.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.
