Here's another Christmas song... Hope you enjoy it.

Tech Details:

Mixed in Power Tracks & Audacity

Some have requested the lyrics as well as the missing 2nd verse (bold letters)... So here they are.

If There Ain't No Santa Claus © J. Hughes

We went to a big old party
At a friend's house Christmas Eve.
Got tanked up and acting rowdy,
So my wife said time to leave.
As I staggered out to our car,
Much to my surprise,
I looked up at their house top,
And I couldn't believe my eyes.

If there ain't no Santa Claus, girl,
Who's the fat man on the roof
With the funny looking reindeer
And a sleigh full of loot
If there ain't no Santa Claus, girl,
Climbing out their chimney top
With a big old sack of goodies,
Somebody better call the cops.

Middle Break

As I stood there in the roadway
On that freezing Christmas Eve
And the coldness of the snow played
Jingle Bells on my knees
Lord I stared up at their house top
And I could still see the sight
Of a funny looking reindeer
With a small red glowing light

If there ain't no Santa Claus, girl,
Who's the fat man on the roof
With the funny looking reindeer
And a sleigh full of loot
If there ain't no Santa Claus, girl,
Climbing out their chimney top
With a big old sack of goodies,
Somebody better call the cops.

If there ain't no Santa Claus, girl,
Somebody better call the cops.

That was a fun listen!

I was wondering how you'd handle the third verse! grin

Nicely done, even if you did use MIDI guitar. (Sorry, I couldn't resist! whistle )

Jim,

A fun Christmas song and a good mix.

Much enjoyed!

Hey Jim,

This is great!

Can you post the lyrics?

Tater Totts told me to tell you he highly approves of this song. In fact, he is a little pouty and jealous right now but I told him to relax, there has to be competition or it's not fun.

That was one clever write.

Johnny cash would have recorded this in a heartbeat, although I loved your version and no way can it be beat.

Brilliant !!.

Jim,
fun song! Perfect timing smile

There is a concept of Santa girl...

But do not get any ideas. Legend goes, it is his granddaughter smile

That was well done.

A good write - and Laugh Out Loud funny!

that was a really fun song to listen to.

Reminded me of several different country songs and that one about running over grandma with a reindeer.

Thanks David for the listen...
I often keep songs short so as not to bore the listener... even a short version can get the idea across.
If I were to record the song properly (without midi grin ) , the 2nd verse would go something like this:

As I stood there in the roadway,
On that freezing Christmas Eve,
And the coldness of the snow played
Jingle Bells on my knees
Lord, I stared up at their house top,
And I could still see the sight
Of a funny looking reindeer
With a small red glowing light.

Very festive Jim! I quite enjoyed the overall tone on this. Great progression too. Well done!

Oh, this is superb!!! Nothing less than superb. And yes, Johnny Cash would have wanted to record this in an instant, I'm sure of it ... but yes, I agree that this is yours and yours alone. I'm going to run out of superlatives, but this is wonderful - standing ovation from me, bravo.

Hello Jim,

I've not looked at previous comments ( a little pressed for time), so if this is redundant, sorry. The very first thought came to mind for me was "I thought Merle Haggard had passed on". I can hear him singing this as thought I was in the studio with him. But, you did a dang good job on it - ya didn't need Merle after all! yep, it's a goodern! Enjoyed it from beginning to end. Best to you & Merry Christmas.

Very enjoyable and fun. The song is still playing in my mind, which is a good thing. Love the guitar. This song should be bigger than anything by Elmo and Patsy.

Thank you H2L... Its not to late write a Christmas song this year...
Its seems easier to write one in December than in July or any other month...
Probably when Ralph Rainger & Leo Robin sat down in January 1934 to write a
Christmas Song, all they came up with was "June in January"
Merry Christmas!

Jim,

This is great!!! I'm very late to the party and didn't get to this in time for Christmas, but that didn't spoil things for me at all. I love your writing and your presentation... it's thumbs up from me all the way!

Regards,
Noel
