Just in Time for Easter

By David Snyder

V1

How I miss tomorrow
You were dressed up like a yoga doll
Now time is spinning backwards
We’re all staring at a Brownsville wall
And I’m a prophet with no prophecy
isn’t that a switch
Nothing comes for free but nothing
And that won’t make us rich

CH

And here we are—all dressed up for Sunday
Here we are—making plans for someday, someday
Wishing we had something new to say
So we could come alive some way
With idea where we’ve been
which way to turn so we fit in
And just in time for Easter
again

V2

We’re not growing older
We’re just slowly making up our minds
Pay up now or pay up later
Everybody get in line
I’m a prophet with no prophecy
Been fooled too many times
But if you fall asleep enough, then
Nothing ever seems to be a crime

CH

And here we are—all dressed up for Sunday
Here we are—making plans for someday, someday
Wishing we had something new to say
So we could come alive some way
With no idea where we’ve been, or what it really means to win
And just in time for Easter
again

INST.

CH

And here we are—all dressed up for Sunday
Here we are—making plans for someday, someday
Wishing we had something new to say
So we could come alive some way
With idea where we’ve been
which way to turn so we fit in
And just in time for Easter
again

Another good one, Mr. Snyder.

Great groove. Jangly, Byrds-like...

Good write. Nice production.

"We’re not growing older
We’re just slowly making up our minds"

Nice.

I really like the lyrics on this one--full of great gems. This is the type of music I loved listening to in the late 70s and early 80s. I really dig this song.

Cool song.
When there's no vocal happening it sounds like a Kirsty Macoll Kite sessions demo.

Good write, good lyrics, & good drive...
I'm a sucker for jangly guitars...
Happy Easter to you too David laugh

"We’re not growing older

Indeed. You packed this one with thought provoking lyrics!

Yep, it definitely has that Byrds vibe...a good thing.

Good to see you around again....

Really well done David - welcome back! Definitely getting some throwback vibes to the late 70's. Love the lyrics on this, they really add another dimension too. Top notch singing that is really memorable, as always - and it has top notch production to boot.

Not a thing I'd change - thanks for sharing smile

Wonderful sound!

made me think of R.E.M.

some great lines, although I couldn't follow it with a road map

a part of it's charm

I have stared at a Brownsville wall in the respectable part of town and was shocked

at the bullets holes and marks put there by the cartel to intimidate, of course this was

a few years back and my last trip there.

David,

I really admire your way with words—your lyrics are always fresh and original—poetic, relatable and heartfelt. Love that chorus! This tune has a lot of life, heart and depth. A pleasure to listen to.

Humble regards,

Deej

David, this one has a lot going for it. The melody is very engaging as are the thought provoking lyrics. Sung with conviction and your trademark unique sound and style. I enjoyed it very much. I did think the drums could have been louder, Tom

David,
good production!
Mix is crisp and clear. I liked Bass on this! And also found this piece of lyrics very interesting:
"Wishing we had something new to say
So we could come alive some way"

Thank you for sharing.

Hey there David, I really enjoyed the overall tone of this. Fantastic selection of instruments here and the vibe is very appealing. That guitar tone is very warm! Keep it up!

Exactly what I was thinking!! I thought about quoting that line before reading Floyd's comment but decided on this one instead:

But if you fall asleep enough, then
Nothing ever seems to be a crime

Probably 6-8 more I could have chosen. I love the way you write. Even abstract lines that I don't get at a cerebral level just hit me in the heart. Great stuff David!! Take care. Greg

This reminds me of the Byrds, or more accurately, Roger McGuinn....

Loved that second verse lyric job.

Good work on this

Very catchy David. All of it works really well, but man that chorus...great!

Some it made me think, some of it made me wonder. lol

Thanks Ray. I appreciate the Kirsty reference. She was such a cool lady. The story of her death is tragic though. Horrible thing. But she is a hero to many, and was a great songwriter.

Thanks Jim,

I'm a sucker for jangly guitars too.

Hey Janice and Bud,

Thanks so much. I had fun with this one. I try not to think too hard when I am writing lyrics, it hurts too much to do otherwise.

Hi David,

Funny song, indeed reminding us of the Byrds, like Floyd said.
With lyrics that only you can write laugh

"We’re not growing older
We’re just slowly making up our minds"

"I’m a prophet with no prophecy"

A couple of the many great lines!! Kind of a Springsteen arriving in the 60's instead of the later years! Great job on this David! Thanks, Torrey

Hey David ...

Trying to do a little catching up. Cool song! And someone mentioned the Byrds - couldn't agree more. That 12-string just talks!

We’re not growing older
We’re just slowly making up our minds
Pay up now or pay up later
Everybody get in line

Great lines - I'm living them!!! I'll be 72 next Friday. You are so creative in both lyric and musical composition. You're a rare talent!! ANother top-shelf production and delivery from you.

Wishing you the best and Happy Easter ...

Sorry I haven't read all the comments yet, but this is a great tune... There's something very Phychedelic Furs about it and that makes me feel good.

Thanks Deryk, I really appreciate that!
Posted By: David Snyder Re: Just in Time for Easter - 03/19/19 10:06 AM

Thanks Kenny!

In a few ways this song started out as an inside joke to myself with allusions to the era and epoch. I was there when it happened, and actually met and R.E.M. and the guy who produced their first three albums, Mitch Easter. There were a bunch of us in bands in Winston-Salem, NC at time, which was arguably (due to Easter) the hub of jangle rock.

So, many things in this song were done on purpose to imitate that sound from my "musical childhood."

Thanks for noticing!

David,

Nice song!
I agree with floyd.
Great groove. Jangly, Byrds-like...
But the bass is more modern.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Hi David,

Wow! This is a journey and half! I enjoyed it. I still maintain that you are one of the most creative and inventive composers among us here in Users Showcase. Your boundless imagination and your ability to harness it and create excellent songs are something I admire greatly.

All the best,

Excellent song-writing. Very well put together.

Maybe it's just me but I hear punk/grunge in the schoolyard melody, dissatisfied lyrics and vocal delivery and that driving 8-count. Just with the distortion replaced by the jangly guitars.

Whatever. Sounds good, feels right.

Dear Bob and Shigeki,

Thanks so much for your listens and kind comments. I am really glad you enjoyed it!!

Yep, this also reminded me of The Byrds.

You are one great lyricists David as well as having a very diverse musical mind and the ability to put both down into excellent songs. I wish that I had such a talent!
