It Ain't Love

My professional duties over the past few weeks have not allowed me that much time for my songwriting hobby or for listening to a lot of the songs on the forum. I did manage this track. We sang a hymn in church in the key of Cm; I liked that key, and decided to write this song. (This song has nothing to do with the hymn, though.)

For the mix, I used Reaper. I had been using Mixcraft, but it has been giving me all sorts of squeaks, pops, and squawks, and other unsolvable mystical audio skullduggery. I am just starting to get the hang of Reaper.

Lyrics:

I need the hurt to melt the lies
Don’t need candied promises to break your disguise
I need obstruction to keep my heart from calling
Don’t need destruction to keep the sky from falling

It ain’t me who doesn’t want you here
It ain’t me who always wants you near
It ain’t love that I fear

I don’t need you to kiss me in my sleep
I need the silence to watch the whispers creep
I need the colors I’m hearing in my head
Don’t need analyzing of everything I’ve said

It ain’t me who doesn’t want you here
It ain’t me who always wants you near
It ain’t love that I fear

It ain’t me who doesn’t want you here
It ain’t me who always wants you near
It ain’t love that I fear

I need the hurt to melt the lies
Don’t need candied promises to break your disguise

Great song with excellent vocals delivered in a powerful way! So many catchy things happening in here! Loved that melody in the chorus! Great sound all the way around! Thanks, Torrey

Hi Ezekiel,

That's a powerful song you made! And though I don't know what hymn that was, you gave it a nice own turn (if that's how they call that).
The vocals are very good.

Bye,
Hans

Ezekiel,
Very fun and catchy tune! Very strong arrangement of instrumentals and vocals.
Clever lyrics! I especially liked and can relate to this:
"I need obstruction to keep my heart from calling" and "I need the colors I’m hearing in my head"

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Howdy!

Wow, Ez, this is strong and powerful! You really gave this one some drive and attitude - sure do like how you did that. Your vocal drives this one, in my opinion. The drums just add to it. Your voice is stellar! Super song and sing. What a musical treat! best to you ...

Thanks, Hans. I don't remember the hymn title, but I thought it was a good key for my range.

Scott,

A very cool song (a bit cryptic at times?).

Excellent arrangement/production. Bass & drums -- super. Guitars are excellent. Organ, too... Nice use of stops...

Good vocal. Love the harmonies - are those sung or "created" (if so, how?).
(The harmonies are a tad "crisp" in my speakers).

Cool. Very catchy.

Anthemic!

Kenny, who is a fine rocker, really describes our feelings well.

Nice lines and a fine power vocal along with a very effective use of RT/RD's.

The mix sets up a strong soundstage...nearly took my monitors off the shelf! smile

Enjoyed the listens,

J&B

Floyd,
For this song I used the harmonizer from BIAB (I can't sing that high.) I used the 1 down and 2 up and took bits and pieces from each for the harmony line. I also changed some of the harmony notes to the way I wanted them by using Meladyne.

Some really COOL lines in the lyrics, such as "Don’t need candied promises to break your disguise" "I need the silence to watch the whispers creep". Movin, upbeat melody, nice vocals. You ROCK!!!

Hi Scott,

Your vibe's driving 'sense of purpose' really appealed to me. The sound that I'm hearing is crisp and very, very professional. The arrangement sparkles, your singing is excellent and sits really well in the mix, and the production is first rate.

Really well done!

All the best,
Noel

Cool song!! Nice, gritty rocker. Mix sounds really good to me....an in your face sound which matches the sentiment of the song. Organ sounds particularly great. Nice job!! Take care. Greg

Nice one.
I don't know about Reaper. Does it have eq filters? Maybe could use it to clear up some of the low end muddiness.
Good melody.

This has a big beat and plenty of enthusiasm to sell the message.
Oddly enough the enthusiasm seems to have translated into a lot of sibilant sounds - unusual for you - perhaps it's some vocal treatment that's creating it.
Terrific song.
