One of the truly great things about Band-In-A-Box is that allows you to create so many different styles and kinds of music.

From simple, intimate indie-artist-style productions to big-commercial-style Pop, Rock or Country (just to name a couple).

This would be on the "bigger" end...

SHE'S COME AROUND

i've always let her have her way
but this time she was wrong
she said love can be a sometime thing
i couldn't go along
i drew her close and kissed her
from deep within my soul
i felt it when she changed her mind
every part of her let go

she's come around to my way of loving
now she knows it's all or nothing
i stood my ground wouldn't give up
there's no half-way when it comes to love
where we used to go head-to-head
   we're now heart-to-heart instead
she's come around to my way of loving

she likes french wine and russian novels
baseball's what i know
i'm bbq and country music
she's pasta and rock and roll
she says "vive la difference"
i say "what the hell"
sometimes i don't know what she's thinking
but there's one thing i can tell

   repeat chorus

Hope you enjoy it.
Comments welcome, as always.
Have at it.

Hey ...

First row center ... unless someone sneaks in!

This is a terrific song. Big sound ... big production ... big smiles for the listeners. That bass line really drives this. Your lyrics are always at the top of the list.

That lead guitar really puts a stamp on this ... perfect choice. That last verse really talks to me. I can relate. Also, that short guitar riff before the tag line was a real nice touch.

As always ... exceptional in every way. Wishing you & yours the very best ...

What a tune! Love the progressions and your vocals on this. The tune flows tremendously well and has a really polished sound. Wouldn't bat an eyelash if I heard this on the radio.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing smile

First things that grab me are the piano and drums

your drums are always clear and kicking, that piano cuts thru nicely

and has some great parts.

You and Tom both have baseball in your new songs,

I'm a baseball addict since childhood, it's like a religion

even tho it changes it's been one of the most consistent and reliable

touchstones in my life. Maybe because of spring training and these monstrous contracts

being given out, it catches your attention. I haven't really been able to work it into a song

but I'll keep trying.

It's also a great love song,

there's no half-way when it comes to love
where we used to go head-to-head
we're now heart-to-heart instead
she's come around to my way of loving

this is why you are one of my favorite song writers

The uplifting drive and feel good energy deliver here in spades

you're an optimist, aren't ya

I love it, glad I'm here to listen and enjoy your music,

Kenny

Hi Floyd.

What a great song and a great BIG sound.

High spots for me - well, obviously the lead guitar, but also the fabulous drum sound. Loved the kick drum!

All the things I expect from you, super vocals, excellent mix etc. were all there as usual,
making up a very professional package.

As mentioned previously, a big sound here. Great use of the climbing guitar line as a signature lick. Once again you have used the organ to come in later as a build. You are the master of love songs! So many flavors in your catalog on this theme and they all stand on their own. I loved the clever but not too cute lyrics and you provided a great vocal to go along with the outstanding production. Kenny - thanks for the nice comments...

Those Praise drums are well recorded and easy to make "big" - they have some nice variations, too... I'm fond of the TruePianos used to render the SuperMIDI track - again, making it easy to have some control of the sound and getting the pianos to cut through.....

I most often lean towards the positive for uptempo, commercial productions/songs (part of my "training" smile )

Baseball - always a good thing to throw in... I just finished another one with some baseball images (that I think you will enjoy when I get around to postiing that one)...

Thanks, again...

"where we used to go head-to-head
we're now heart-to-heart instead"

It's already been quoted but, man, are those great lines...of many.

Janice commented a minute into the listen that the song has an E Street Band anthemic feel to it.

We've said it before but you can do more with two verses and a chorus than most can create with another verse and a bridge thrown in smile

We struggle for more to say as we read all the comments before sitting down to write this...your forum fans didn't leave much wiggle room re further accolades.

Suffice it to say that the write is superb, your vocals are superb and the production is room filling. We've listened on the monitors and on the big system and it genuinely sounds like a product out of a big studio.

You the man mr jane!

What a GREAT song! I'm amazed but not surprised. The production, the writing, the mix, and the vocal are all great!

I'm not sure we all recognize your vocal enough. You are very close to what some of the "new" country guys, that sound a bit "throw back", sound like. There's something Randy Houser-ish about your vocals...and he always liked Ronnie Dunn. I love that style of vocal. Big, strong, and non-apologetic; without sounding like your trying to be all of those things. It just comes across as confident and genuine.

Now, something you may want to consider. And to those who jump on me for this being not supportive, please realize he asked us to "have at it." This will just be an idea.

If I lyrically "mute" the male part for this verse something seems slightly out of character for me. The lines would read like this with the male omitted :

Quote:
she likes french wine and russian novels
she's pasta and rock and roll
she says "vive la difference"

She likes french wine...got it.
Russian novels...getting it even more
Pasta...good development
Rock and roll...she does? Maybe I don't know her.
"vive la difference"...ah, back to who I thought she was.

For me, it would be consistent with her character if you did something like "

she likes Itialian pasta and Russian novels (could leave "Italian" out, just thought it added a bit of description)
baseball's what i know
i'm bbq and country music
she's jazz with a glass (near rhyme) of merlot/Bordeaux (for the rhyme, and also both French wines which you alluded. Also taking into account the next line)
she says "vive la difference"
i say "what the hell"

Of course, you can come up with what to do much better than I could. Just throwing out some examples.

For all I know, you like the juxtaposition of rock and roll which does work in a different, grab your attention, kind of way.

Like I said, I really can't give much, or anything to improve on. I'm on the tee and whiffing the ball, so... I guess, I'll leave it at, another great one my friend. I used to say "I don't say this often, but this could be on the radio" but I'm starting to say it pretty often around here. I love the song. Really great job, as everyone else has said.

Thanks, Scott. Glad you like the guitar - it has a little extra delay added. And thanks for the comments on the mix...I have been re-thinking how the bass guitars sit in my mixes lately - this one seems a bit "boom-y" to me - but often, that depends on the speakers I hear it on (for me that only happens with the bass)

Ah, shucks. Y'all say the nicest things... I did not intend this to have that E Street Band sound, but once it was put together, I had a similar thought. The combination of driving piano and big drums was a defining part of the Born To Run album - and as a whole, I've probably heard that record more than any other (or any 5 put together). I'm glad it "worked" for you. Thanks for the great review!

I readily see your point about using "jazz" instead of "rock'n'roll". I "fits" the perceived scenario (to the logical mind). However... this verse was written as a comparison/juxtaposition of my wife and I - and every part of it is "real life". She hates jazz. She loved 70's Rock - BTO was a favorite - though she could not names bands - she just knows the songs when they come on the radio (and returns to her wild-college-days).

I would argue that "french wine" goes with "russian novels" in a way that "italian pasta" does not (and as you implied, I doubt I would ever use "Italian" to modify "pasta).

Although I started with "french wine" and later used "vive la difference" it was not to make "her" seem THAT French - which adding the merlot (or Bordeaux) does (for me). Needless to say, the point was "we are completely different". (She does love french wine and she does use those phrases she learned in high school french class - to this day...)

All of this is, of course, subjective. But it was fun to "argue the point"! Thanks for the chance to do that!!

Thanks, Tangmo! Good to see you back around - hope that you can, in fact, find a way to keep that stream going!! Good luck with that...

[quote]I readily see your point about using "jazz" instead of "rock'n'roll".

Ok, I didn't have that information. lol However, I totally understand. When I was reading the lyrics I had two thoughts about this specifically (aside from a possible suggestion)

1-I haven't known you to struggle with what you are trying to say. If it's there; it's meant to be there.

2-I very much wondered if it was your life experience. I have a friend, who is a married wife of two young boys. She very much enjoys the finer things in life. "Great" shoes, wine, and food. The last meal they prepared was seven courses; and I couldn't pronounce any of it. She is not stuffy. Just cultured. Oh...and she plays bass in a rock band! So, I promise I get it.

[quote]I would argue that "french wine" goes with "russian novels" in a way that "italian pasta" does not (and as you implied, I doubt I would ever use "Italian" to modify "pasta).

No argument there at all. I was throwing out an idea. I personally haven't known anyway to snuggle up by the fire with a great book, and a bowl of fettuccine Alfredo. It's too heavy. Everyone knows with Russian novels, you go with a red sauce.

Seriously though, I did get the imagery and felt it was very accurate. What I was trying to avoid was the double use of the word "soul." The second as a type of music.

I'm on board with what you have for sure. smile

At least she's using something from HS French class. I also took French but only remember how to say things sporadically. One phrase I do remember is "où est la corbeille?" It sounds beautiful when said; but has been fairly useless so far for me in life. lol

All of this is, of course, subjective. But it was fun to "argue the point"! Thanks for the chance to do that!!

I'm laughing thinking; well...neither of us are not one for trends apparently. Aren't we supposed to be offended? You would think at least one of use could have pulled that off. wink

Thank you for sharing a bit more about where the song emerged from. I love hearing the story behind the story.

floyd,

Very nice tune! Energetic!
This song is truly the royal road of the American rock song.
It seems to be an wonderful example of an eight beat song.
The chord progression is also perfect for this song.
Strong vocal as usual.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.
