Just finished my first song, after taking a few months off for a forced (by my wife) vacation. smile I am so blessed to have a wife who really cares about my health, and well being. She knew I needed some time off from the daily grind of life. But I am glad to be back, and happy to submit my first new effort.

This is called Texas In My Bones, and you can't name a song that name, and it not be a country song. So here goes. Most of the backing is Band in a Box, along with some piano and organ played by me. I hope you enjoy this one.

Texas In My Bones
©Stephen W. Young

It was a rainy night in Georgia
When I packed my bags to leave
Nothin' against Atlanta
It just didn't work for me
But the seasons change, and lead us
To the place we're meant to be
So i headed for my home

I know some folks in Louisiana
Who just love to take me in
So I stopped and drank strong coffee
And reminisced with my old friends
And we laughed and shared old memories
Until the break of dawn
And it was time for moving on
'Cause I've got Texas in my bones

I've seen the Eastern Shore of Virginia
And the San Fransisco Bay
The mountains of Colorado
Are everything they say
And I thank God I was born and raised
In the good old USA
But I've got Texas in my bones

I love the red dirt and the pine trees
And the quiet, simple life
The beaches of South Padre
'Cause that's where I met my wife
The road to San Jacinto
Where I learned to drive my car
My roots run deep
In the heart of the state they call Lone Star

Now I hang my hat
In the hills, just North of San Antone
'Cause I've got Texas in my bones
I've got Texas in my bones
I've got Texas in my bones

nice little chord progression in break between verses! The chorus really grabs your attention! This whole song is stunningly well done....but hey, that a normal thing for one your tunes! Thanks, Torrey

Hi Steve ...

Great country song! Nicely arranged and delivered. You have a very good voice for country ... wish I did! This is terrific all around. Your selection of backing tracks was excellent. I lived in San Antonio for about 5 years.

I really enjoyed this! Thanks for a real nice listen! Wishing you the very best ...

Yep...
I think you've got yourself a genuine Austin City Limits country song...
Make sure you get it out to the public radio stations that play Texas country songs...
It should do well!

Steve this song pushed all my buttons. What a great song. This is the kind of song that should be on all the major playlists. It's got everything going for it. Great job

This feels so right. It just says what it says from the "steal" in the first line through the "steel" playing softly and sounds instantly classic.

Wow - this is outstanding smile It has a warm, nostalgic quality to it that I like. It is really sincere sounding, and the mix is top notch. I wouldn't bat an eyelash hearing this on the radio.

You should be proud of this one - thanks for sharing!

Alan, I really appreciate your kind words! When I was young, I envisioned myself (like most kids my age) a rock-n-roll singer. Now the more I try to sing rock, the more it comes out sounding like Mickey Gilley! So I guess I'm just an old country singer.

Hey, it's wonderful to hear another production from you.

The FIRST thing that always strikes us is how much heart and soul your vocals have. They always sound so genuine. That will draw us into a song quicker than anything else. And this tune is certainly no exception.

In addition to the vocals and fine write the arrangement and choice of RT's along with your keyboards carry the song so well. I think Torrey mentioned the verse to verse chords...nice touch.

And, as always, the mix shines. Nothing to add and nothing to take away.

Superb!

Hi Steve,

Wow! this is good. Whether it's a remix or a brand new composition, I always love hearing your work.

Everything you do is first class. Your flair for exceptional arranging never fails to leave me feeling musically satisfied and very impressed. As I've said a number of times now, your forum submissions are something that I return to time and again when I'm trying to get ideas for my own productions.

It's so good to see you on here with a new one!

All the best,
Noel

Hi Steve,

First and foremost I am glad that your health has improved, plus it sounds like that month off did you very well.

This is what should be on country radio today. Everything about this is top shelf; your backing tracks are perfect and your vocal is really strong! Plus those lyrics are top shelf!

This is a great song.

Beautiful production and song. Not only is the vocal good, but also of equal importance is the phenomenal vocal delivery.

Steve,

Crisp inviting sound and melody, and focused, specific lyrics . . . all of which make for a good song, that sung well (as this is), makes for an easy listen. Well done!

My best to you,

Deej

Very nice work. It reminds me of John Denver a bit.

Can't name a song that... lessen it's country? Well you certainly did. And it's definitely a country tune.
