Two Pretty Girls

While browsing through my archives for songs that a rock band could play, I found this song I composed in 2008. At that time the arrangement used mainly MIDI tracks so it didn't sound very pleasing, thus I had almost ignored it. I decided to give it some fresh sound, fix some lyrical issues and sing it myself. I kept one MIDI track, but used very nice SampleTank 3 guitar preset.

I am more than happy with the end result, BIAB with its recent RTs can really make an old song sound like a completely new one. I hope also you like the driving energy of the arrangement smile

Note, no woman in the title this time smile

MIDI: guitar / CC_HIVE.STY (VST - SampleTank 3)
RealDrums: NashvilleEven8
RealTracks:
Electric bass #2591
Electric Guitar Rhythm Punk #2583
Electric guitar soloist #2586
Baritone guitar #2499
Organ #671
Acoustic Piano #2353
Vocal OohsAahs #2975

Vocals: Janne S
Mixed in Cakewalk by BandLab

Lyrics:

Fell in love again
blind like other men
she was beautiful but strong
thin line dividing right and wrong.
A brunette having fun
always on the run
trendy, groomed apperance
a country girl with elegance.

Two pretty girls like east and west
fighting over my heart
one with her kindness
the other with her sword.
Two pretty girls like yin-yang
I can't make up my mind
should I join the rhythm
or should I play the right chord?

Rings she didn't wear
no make-up no dyed hair
just naturally blonde
modest things set apart or bond.
Easy, sociable
soothing spectacle
priceless is her love's worth
a city girl but down-to-earth.

Two pretty...

Seasons come and go
moods like tide from high to low,
crop needs sun and rain
pleasure comes with pain.
Two faces of the coin
two sides I could join
but the choice is not black or white
there's a rainbow in every light.

Two pretty…

Two faces…

I think remember this song or one with a similar theme but a darker outcome?
The Real Tracks really improve things though I think the intro solo is a bit loud and the verse vocal too.
The chorus levels are cool.

Janne,

Great upbeat song. I like the way you mixed the vocal - clear and present.

I enjoyed this one. smile

The song title caught my eye. Yes, high energy tracks--this song rocks. This has a catchy pop chorus. I especially like "she was beautiful but strong/thin line dividing right and wrong." I think I know her. smile

It's no fair if you don't make up your mind. smile

This rocks along just great. I like that the instrumental bridge is quite so different from the main body of the song in progression. Much enjoyed.

Hi Janne,

Very nice song that made me happy when listening... "Feel good"-mood coming up!

I agree with rayc that it maybe would have been beneficial to the song if your vocal in the verse had been a little bit less loud compared with the backing track.

Very enjoyable song!

Thanks for sharing!

Janne,

Cool song. A terrific Pop sound - you are good at getting that type sound from the BAND.

The chorus is especially nice. The guitar solo is good. Enjoyed.

Janne,
Cool positive pop! Very good BIAB arrangement and mix!
Unusual & optimistic lyrics smile This was very clever in context:

"should I join the rhythm
or should I play the right chord"

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Thanks Ray for commenting smile I haven't showcased this one, so it's probably some other song, but yes this is one of my few lighter ones. I like how the intro solo is on-your-face as a wakeup call, but you are right about the verse vocals, I guess I should use automation to lower the volume on the first half of the verses.

Nice upbeat tune Janne! I hear everything in this from the Police to the Beach Boys all coming together in a cohesive rockin" tune! Nice little quiet place towards the end! Thanks, Torrey

Thanks Joe for your positive words smile There are no special effects on vocals, just normal reverb/compressor/delay and doubling in the chorus but I'm glad to hear it worked smile

Thanks Misha for your kind and positive words smile I'm especially happy that you liked that part of the lyrics, those words describe not only that dilemma but also many other that we face in our lives, for example in arrangements.

We think that is a great description.

Cool chord progressions, catchy vocal and lyric and backed by a great "band."

Everything a fun pop rocker oughta be!

Well done...

Janne,

Really Pop!
Intro. is very nice.
Really uplifting!
The melody of the synth sound that appears 3 times in the interlude parts is very good.
I think that it is the correct answer that you reworked the accompaniment.
I did not listen to the original, but I guess it is probably getting much better now.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Thanks Shigeki Adachi for your nice review smile I'm glad you liked the interludes, I think every good pop song should have one (synth/keyboard) after each chorus smile
