Here is a simple song about lost love...
Something common to all.
I hope you enjoy the video.

Technical:

Lyrics are embedded in the video.

Fragrance © J Hughes

Yes you've gone
But I'm not alone
The fragrance of your sweet love
Lingers on

You're still here
Cause though you are gone
The fragrance of your sweet love
Lingers on

I can smell
Your perfume
In the air
I can feel
Your sweet touch
Ev'rywhere
But you're not there

Yes you've gone
But I'm not alone
The fragrance of your sweet love
Lingers on

Very touching. The progression just drips sadness and wistfulness. Short and bitter-sweet.

Jim, sometimes I like a "simple" song much better than a complicated one, especially when it gets the message across! I know you tilt toward the country genre but I could really hear the Beatles doing this one in their early days with Paul and John doing that classic duet harmony they often did! Nice tune! Thanks, Torrey

Thanks for the listen and kind words.

Life is complicated. Simple is good for the soul.

We definitely agree with Torrey that this tune would make a nice earlier rock ballad. But as a lover of nearly all genres we also like it just the way it is!

Thanks for sharing.

Jim,
That is very nice tune, but also one of the saddest I have heard from you.
Progression reminded me of Radiohead song Creep of early 90s. Smooth!

Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Thanks, Torrey...
For your wonderful comments & support.
I always thought the Beatles were a pretty good country group...
who just liked to throw in a rocking tune every now & then smile
BTW... Congratulations for the great work & vocals you put into Ray's Orwellian song!

Jim - I think Torrey really nailed the comment on this one. You have a talent for "saying a lot with a few words".

And everything you post sounds like a classic. That, too, is a real talent.

Hey there Jim, This is beautiful and I dig the overall timbres. The lyrics are quite sentimental. Nice work!

Hello Jim ...

One of my favorites from you. I have to agree with the comments referencing the early Beatles. Yet, the Jim Hughes version is pretty darn good! And, I do agree with you about the Beatles having a strong country influence in many of their songs. George Harrison was often quoted as having said Chet Atkins was his guitar hero.

That was real nice, laid back listen. I thought your vocal on this one was stellar. Thanks for the great listen! Wishing you well,

Alan (a Texas resident from 1975 - 1979)

Beautiful, sad song. I agree with the comments about simplicity. Really helps this song hit home.

Great job!

Very nice one Jim,

to me it has that classic country sad ballad plus the Beatles sounding

use of the minor chord placement (at least thats what it sounds like to me)

short and to the point

a good write, a good vocal

and a very catchy song,

Kenny

Nicely done smile A strong throwback to that old school country vibe - never a bad thing in my books. Love your vocals on this too. It sounds really sincere and heartfelt. Nicely catchy as well.

Thanks for sharing!

Simple, but different, it doesn't resolve in the same way most songs do, and that makes it interesting. Good job!

I'm getting an early beatles vibe from this too as others have mentioned.

Good song, Jim! I like your vocal.

George & the Beatles were also fans of Carl Perkins, Phil & Don, Buck Owens, & others who had country roots. smile

I really appreciate those fine comments...
Since this song was so short, I had my doubts...
But I didn't have anything else to say.

Good song, Jim! I like your vocal.

Thanks, Dave...
I glad you liked it...
I think the "early beatles" vibe is probably from...
The 4, 4m, 1 cadence which is used repeatedly throughout the song.

Hi Jim,

I love the gentle, relaxing backing that you've assembled for this. It's a perfect choice for amplifying the sense of loss that the words convey. To my ears, this song sounded like someone mourning the passing of their partner. Your vocals are heartfelt and carry the lyrics' message straight from the heart. Beautiful work.

Regards,
Noel

Dear Jim,

you sure know how to write and perform sweet love songs. Liked this one, too, a lot.

And, yes, I had the same idea like Torrey: There's some Beatles feel in it. I knew it was the A to A minor change, and though I torture my brain, I couldn't find out, what that song I was reminded of. But finally I remembered: Devil In Her Heart, which is rather one of the less known Beatles songs, I think.

Jim, even if your song wasn't as good as it definitely is - I'd be so grateful that you caused me to watch some very old Beatles songs on YT.

All the best, Jim, and thanks a lot for sharing this wonderful simple (in the most positive sense of the word !!!!) love song,

Stefan

Dear Jim,

I really appreciate your compassion - thank you so much for it. Well, although there is some light at the end of the tunnel, things are still very difficult. Maha is still very ill, but there is at least a tendency for imprivement. But we've had so many ups and downs during the last months that we're still a bit sceptical.

All the best,

Stefan
