The Light Keeper`s Waltz

all he remembers
falls rises with the sea
a shell the tide uncovers
as her ship sails out of reach

his beam signals warning
like the wink of a mad man`s eye
the light keeper talking
with the better half of his sky

you trim the wick
I`ll strike the match
slowly turns the helix
waltz with me
around our prism palace
come back to the light
for a farewell kiss

sworn to outshine the stars
together hostage of the sea
he curses those careless stars
writes her name in the log entry

shadows vine the tower
climbing back years with every rung
no ghost incandescent vapour
the keeper`s wife is ever young

you trim the wick
I`ll strike the match
slowly turns the helix
waltz with me
around our prism palace
come back to the light
for a farewell kiss

come back to the light

Robert, your lyrics are so deep with meaning, it's hard to grasp it all in one pass! I so admire your skill in this area! This is quite a lovely tune with wonderful instrumentation that is mixed beautifully! A great job on the vocal too! Thanks, Torrey

Wow - what a tune smile It is so delicate and memorable - your vocals float like water of the instrumentation, and the lyrics really tell a vivid story. You really did something special here.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Robert,

Another lovely delicate piece, well performed.
Enjoyed the vocal chord progression and the lyrics which are always interesting and worth further examination.
Nicely done.

I really like your vocals on this one & the way you delivered your lyrics ...
I also enjoyed your mysterious lyrics...
Particularly...
Quote:
his beam signals warning
like the wink of a mad man`s eye
the light keeper talking
with the better half of his sky

Its hard to determine whether you are singing about a woman or a ship...
I really think its a ship...
Either way I enjoyed it!

Robert, you are a master of lyrics, i.e. very deep but they flow extremely beautifully. Your vocal is excellent and your mix is top shelf.

Great song.

Another intriguing song with delicious words. This is an ambitious lyric, and it takes much work to get words like that to fit a melody, I think. You've done well and I enjoyed it with your very good singing.

I lovely concept and a lovely execution of it.

Hi Robert ...

You are an exceptional lyricist. Your lyrics always paint indelible images. Loved the cello, though brief. YUou simply own this genre. what a great listen!

Robert,

A nice job of "painting the lighthouse picture". Like a movie...

The instrumentation is well chosen, the vocal and mix good. There were times that the lyric seemed to be "trying too hard" to fit the melody??

Peter,
The intention was romantic - "delicate" works for me too.
I appreciate your listen and thoughts.

Beautifully done Robert!!! The waltz is the perfect format for this song. Your vocal may be your best ever.....love the alternating more heavy fx. Love the cello...perfect! Some wonderful lyrics (as usual). One of my faves of a lot of great ones!! Take care. Greg

In a way it is a "concept" song as I wrote it to be the closing track on a collection of story type folk songs.
Thanks for your listen.

Floyd,
Thanks for the positives.
I`ve read about some about the rigours of building and operating the old pre-automation lighthouses- its one of those subjects where a little suggestion gives listeners instant pictures.
I went back & forth about the phrase "incandescent vapor" being not easily singeable, otherwise I`d need examples of what you hear.

Nicely done! The guitar strings are almost like a music box that draws the listener into the story.

Like Jim, I wasn't entirely sure if you were singing about a woman or a ship, or a bit of both.

The ambiguity works well here.

Thanks.I realised the other day I`m more comfortable in a higher key now than in my youth... the quaver of age coming naturally.

Greg,
I learnt that technique of low volume harmonising key phrases in the verses from Joanne Cooper...mine still need a tweak in places here I think.
Many thanks for your generous comments.

The ringing 12-string with nylon guitar is a combination I probably wouldn`t have come up with- these imaginative PG Song Style inventors should get more credit.
I`m glad you enjoyed this.

Well back from my trek across the prairies. So the song pop up while traveling. Was looking forward to get back home and have a listen on the headphones.

Just loved this tune. So delicate and well performed. Your vocal was just perfect. Always love to read your lyrics before I listen to the song. So very cool to follow the picture you paint with you lyrics. Well done Robert.
