Lords Of Shedland

The first song I wrote was a ditty for my then 4 year old niece...thirty years on I`m still making wacky not-much-sense songs to sing to my 10 year old. Some are a bit rude- this one doesn`t come with blushes, just a few broken things.

Style is _FLKSHS8.STY (Folk Swing 8ths Ukulele and Shak)

RealTracks in style: ~2480:Bass, Acoustic, Held Sw 110
RealTracks in style: ~1142:Ukulele, Strumming FolkSwing Sw 110
RealTracks in style: 2440:Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking FolkySwing Sw 110
RealTracks in song: 1146:Fiddle, Background CountrySwing Sw 110 (Outside)
RealDrums in style: ShakerSwing8ths: a: Shaker b: ShakerSwing8ths

Lords Of Shedland

Trespassers Will
can`t you read the sign
on the door of my shed
for strange design

not now I`m busy
run along and play
making a Picasso
from sprockets chains and plates
making a Picasso from sprockets chains and plates

outside a scratching
sniffles mumbled words
he needs some wood
to make a sword

you`d best come in then
mind the messy floor
to fight this battle
we`re going to need a saw
to fight this battle we`re going to need a saw

suddenly
I`m not the man can`t who fix the roof
take the salt out of the sea
equally
we are the brigands from number 33
Lords of Shedland

once we were Kings
or Jedi I forget
plotting revenge on turncoats
in our castle shed

I was Little John
you my Robin Hood
feared by the bad we sang the song
loved by the good
feared by the bad loved by the good

suddenly
I`m not the man can`t who fix the roof
take the salt out of the sea
equally
we are the brigands from number 33
happily
we are motley fools
masters of foreign tongues
finally
climbing stairs to bed retelling all we`ve done
Lords of Shedland

Robert,

A 4-minute Audio Movie. A story well told. You have a way of painting picture with words.

This is an enjoyable listen (journey).

The BAND, the vocal, the arrangement all help tell that story. And the sound effects were quite effective!!

Robert,
Very nice kids tune! In my opinion, it is much harder to write a good tune for younger audience than the one for grown ups. You have done a great job on this! Listens very well. Vocals are very smooth! Fx was a nice touch.

P.S. Sadly, kids get hooked on the "bubble gum" radio pop tunes which rarely have any thought behind it and are based on cycling of single catchy phrase. I wish there would be more cartoons, kids shows that would feature more indie / modern folk tunes such as this.

Thank you for sharing!
Misha.

interesting song. I like it when the words evoke images that ask me to fabricate a meaning (rather than telling a linear story that everyone will hear in exactly the same way)

Hi Robert,

I like your song very much, with the soundeffects and nice chorus.
You must have had plenty of joy making it.

Great song Robert...
Personally I like writing songs for little ones...
Your song has some great lyrical images...
And those sound effects are really delightful...
I certainly enjoyed listening to your creativity...
Perhaps its the kid within me smile!

Absolutely lovely. Captures the imagination of a child with the wisdom of a grown-up. The band is a perfect accompaniment.

Good stuff, Robert! Love the sound effects throughout, very effective, also loved the vocal treatments.

And of course very much enjoyed the story! You are truly a master of words.

Ending was great!

Robert this has to be my favorite song of yours. Loved the picture on Soundcloud. Very cool story in the lyrics. This is just a feel good song. Thoughts of a childs imagination. Very cool. My youth was all about Cowboys and Indians, Roy Rogers, Zorro, and the Lone Ranger and of course homemade forts made with anything laying around. Well done. !!!!!

Very clever lyrics, painting a really nice picture and the sound effects add even more to make this song an enjoyable journey to childhood plays. Musically gives me Beatles and 60's vibes.

Accurate perspective and quite an imaginative production. I liked the bit of chaos at the end of the song.

floyd nailed it, "A 4-minute Audio Movie."

The vocal, the arrangement and the mix are all remarkably tailored to the lyric. Great work with that!

Pardon another quote but some folks say it so much better...tangmo said:

What a wonderful way of describing what we heard!

We much enjoyed this and we always enjoying connecting the dots that you artfully leave.

Well said, Misha. Most of the Dad tunes I come up with are never recorded, just used to torture the youngster.
I agree - as soon as kids get past the Raffi/Sesame Street stage there`s not much non-Disney music out there.
Glad you enjoyed this.

Hans,
Its fun to do a song you`re not serious about- the bgv choir I enjoyed the most.

I appreciate that, especially as its the kind of song I tend to put in the "family ears only" file.

Good write, I hadn't realized "written by Dad" was a genre of music as well.

Loved the harmonies and FX!

Favorite line: we are the brigands from number 33

There are a lot of references here, but you've done a good job making them understandable to people not in on the humor.

Thanks for opening up your file!

Scott... your favourite song of mine?! My masterpeices of introspective angst take a back seat to the silly Dad song- that`s both devastating and about right.I`m glad this took you back to Lone Ranger days.

Janne- thanks for noticing the bit of Beatles influence.

Ezekial`s Storm - Thanks for your listen and comments.

J&B - I`m glad the story was visual as well as musical.

Deryk- Thanks for your listen

Greg - Thanks for following along.

David - The harmonies were fun.Thank you for the positive comments.
