Another Man’s Shoes (Lyrics)

I recall one April day, way back in ’83
A certain conversation that my mother had with me
Said, “If you would be happy, Son, and chase away the blues
You really need to walk a mile in someone else shoes.”

So I headed to the thrift shop, just past the five and ten.
I bought some shoes, I put them on, and wandered home again.
They pinched my toes, they ached my soles, and blistered both my heels.
Now thanks to Mom I’m confident that I know just how it feels.

To walk in another man’s moccasins; to walk in another man’s shoes
Now I’ve got one more reason to go around singing the blues.
I’ve walked in another man’s moccasins; I’ve walked in another man's shoes
So take a tip from me, be careful just whose shoes you choose

Now Mom was very patient and she did the best she could
To see her pearls of wisdom were fully understood
But it seems that comprehension was not my strongest suit
And what she saw as simple – well, I didn’t quite compute

“Is it luck or fate?” I asked, “I need to know what’s true.”
“If you play your cards right, Son, good luck will follow you.”
So I played cards, I played roulette, I even rolled the dice
And if I’m broke today it’s ’cause I took my Mom’s advice

I’ve walked in another man’s moccasins; I’ve walked in another man's shoes
Whenever it was ‘aces high’ then all I had were 'twos'

I’ve walked in another man’s moccasins; I’ve walked in another man's shoes
So take a tip from me, be careful just whose shoes you choose
So take a tip from me, be careful just whose shoes you choose

'83? Crikey, I was 26 & spoke to my mum infrequently, (not a good son and busy living near the city with all that comes of that), so was immune from such amusing advice.
Witting and cool.
I enjoyed it.

You're on a roll lately - I'm getting a strong late 60's folk feeling from this one. Your vocals are incredible on this. You really captured an authentic classic rock feeling on this one. I can imagine this sounding really awesome live.

Nicely done - thanks for sharing smile
