Hi all,

Been travelling again for quite a while, which has kept me away from the forum,
but back now long enough to rush out this offering.
This started out as a demo in Realband, but eventually all the Realtracks got replaced
as I added my own guitar parts. The vocals were tracked-up in PowerTracks and the whole
thing was mixed and mastered in Harrison Mixbus 32C v.5.
It might not be suitable for persons of a nervous disposition!

THE CREATURE
Around this time in the night
I get this feeling that something ain't right
There's no stars, there's no moon
Just this darkness that fills up the room
There's no sound anywhere
I can't see it but I know there's something there

I wanna move, I wanna run
I wanna reach out and pick up my gun
I wanna call, I wanna shout
I wanna scream but there's no sound comes out
It's just not safe anywhere
I don't know what it is, but I know there's something there

Every night
It's just the same
A voice from out the dark
Keeps on calling out my name

A cold sweat, I'm cold and damp
I try to hit the switch to turn on the lamp
The lamp lights, there's nothing there
Just a deafening silence that's hanging in the air
I turn off the light, it's just the same
The creature's back and it's calling out my name
There's something there and it's calling out my name

AS ever, many thanks to all those who have time to give it a listen.

I love this ROG!!! You've really created a mood with the music and the lyrics.....I'm feeling nervous already! All of the tracks, and particularly the vocals, sound really, really good! Certainly belongs on the Best of ROG album (first or last track on one side or the other)!. WONDERFUL!!! Take care. Greg

An outstanding write...
I guess don't have a "nervous disposition" smile...
Because I certainly enjoyed listening to this one!

ROG,
Danger with some funky guitars - I can feel that Stranger Things monster getting closer!
Everything gels on this - lyrics, backtrack, lead guitar and that scared feeling in your vocal.
Really good.

Love the groove of this. Really well put togeather.
The bridge reminded me of Super Tramp.
Well done Rog. Rob4580

You did a really great job with creating something quite atmospheric. Well done.

Rog

Nicely done - well played and composed. Were the drums programmed via midi?
Atmospheric & bluesy - nice change at the bridge.

Hey, welcome back and what a song for the re-entry!

That intro grabbed us from the get go...cool guitar (and that which follows).

Love that super contrasting Beatles like bridge.

Super cool lyric that is absolutely nailed with the great vocal.

Getting a bit of Jeff Lynne and The Traveling Wilburys ... which for us is a very good thing!

FUN!

Cool tune..... things that go bump in the night.

To overcome that fear, you must become the night.

I enjoyed this. Nice work.....yep

And it's not even Halloween!!
Great track, Rog.
The 'feel' takes me back to the 60's heavy Rockers we used to do.
Great vocal and superb tracks.
Loved the 'nod' to Space Oddity in the short bridge.
Welcome back
Ian

ROG,

A great listen. A great overall sound. Cool song.

Always like your vocals! (and they fit this groove so well).

Terrific mix. Everything tucked in nicely where it needs to be. Cohesive.

Enjoyed.

Rog,
Cool spooky rock tune! Very strong arrangement and mix. Vocals situated very well in it.

Thank you for sharing!

Nice song with a good, tried and true blues riff throughout, good effort on all fronts.
Posted By: rayc Re: THE CREATURE - 07/31/19 03:43 AM
I really like the string lines in the background.
The dynamics of this go from strut to Robert Wyatt style confessionals.
Your voice is wonderful - characterful and in tune.
Top shelf.

Nice. Love the guitar work. Intriguing variation of beat and mood. Atmospheric.

What a tune - I'm getting some 70's folk rock vibes with this one. It flows great, and I love the groove here. Nicely atmospheric, and it blends with the catchiness well. The kind of song I'd imagine sounding unreal live.

Thanks for sharing!

Many thanks for the listen and kind words.

Fun listen! Love the maj7thy bridge and the nice guitar work.

Strong and scary story, that hypnotic groove adds the necessary thrill. That bridge part is very nice, psychedelic. Nice chording and guitar playing. Noel and Liam came to my mind but this is way better. I hope that creature won't show up here wink

Hi Peter, Yes, the drums are indeed programmed via MIDI, using a sample player.
The samples are ones which we've made ourselves and we have a collection dating back
to the 80s when we got our first Vesta sampler! We still use those old 8 bit samples, but
the ones on this track are more recent 16 bit 44.1k.
Anyway, pleased you liked the track and many thanks for the review.

Cheers, ROG.

ROG,

Slick tune that captures a feel and runs with it. Could see this as a backing track to something like “Stranger Things” or the like. Love what you do on that bridge—great production work. Really impressive work—enjoyed the heck out of my listen.

Kindest regards,

Deej

Hi there J&B,
Always pleased to get a review from you two; much appreciated and many thanks.
Been a great fan of the Wilburys since the 80s, so well pleased with that reference.
So, glad you liked this one and it's good to be back on the forum again.

Hey Ian, that's very nice of you.
Yes, I go back to the 60s as well! Hadn't thought about "Space Oddity" but now
you mention it, I can see where you're coming from.
Many thanks for looking in.

Hi Floyd.
Always value your opinion, so glad you approved of this offering.
It's reassuring about the vocals - I'm always riddled with self-doubt them.
So, many thanks for the review.

Hi Deryk. As it happens, I did work with a few folk rock bands in the 70s and obviously some of it rubbed off.
Many thanks for looking in on this one.

ROG,

Sweet! Great progression, guitar work, mix and overall production. Excellent.

I want to apologize for being so absent from the forum. Also, I will be candid that this part of the post is kind of a generic “form letter” to my old and new forum friends.

In brief, work is very hectic right now and I am having a hard time keeping up with the forum and even writing new songs. There is also a lot of new material hitting the boards—more than I can listen to and reply. People are on a roll!

Instead of backing away from the forum I want to stay involved by just giving the equivalent of a “like” as opposed to full-fledged commentary.

This way, I can just keep listening, and enjoying and reply with a simple LOVE IT or something like that.

I do listen, love your stuff and really want to continue following those who are so dedicated to encouraging others, even if it is only with one word.

Hope this makes sense, thanks for your artistry and forgive my brevity going forward with massive time constraints.

Also forgive me if you see this message more than once until I know I have covered all my bases.

Peace!!

Extra-fine blues rock number. You keep the "chills" coming and the "push back" and effects in the middle are just plain creepy. Very entertaining and unsettling.

Hi David. Personally, I'm grateful to anyone who has time to listen, however brief the comment.

In the eight years I've been on the forum, it's changed considerably and there's far more songs on the
Showcase than ever before. I've been spending a lot of time travelling recently and when I am at home I
find that the work has piled up, so I'm having the same experience as yourself.

There are so many excellent tracks on here these days, that listening to and writing a full review for all of them
can take up more time than I have available. So, like David, please forgive me if I don't devote as much time to
the forum as I would like.

Cheers, ROG.

Super tune! An emphatic Blues-Rock song that put a big smile on my face!Z Love that variation in sounds, particularly the chorus. Sounds like Travelin' Wilburys on the verses and Beatles on the chorus. Really cool! Good to have you back on the boards. Wishing you the very best ...

Hi Alan. If it made you smile it was all worthwhile!
I still don't have as much spare time to spend here on the forum as I'd like, but
hoping to be around a bit more for the remainder of the year.
Thanks for looking in. Take care.
