Stardust On The Moon

We've not written anything new in a while, so I pulled this one from one of last year's folders of songs not yet posted or not yet finished. I wrote and recorded this in June of 2018. It's a slow 12/8 nylon acoustic track with subdued backing trax and has a slight Old West influence. I added a small amount of reverb on the snare rim shots. It's all BIAB ... nothing from me other than the concept and the arrangement.

Isn't BIAB a fabulous tool? One of the best investments I've ever made in my life.

The tracks is really cool though with bass & lead acoustic up the middle and the snare/rim to the right, (makes sense given that it would probably conflict with the melodic guitar), along with the brighter parts of the 2nd guitar the left seems a little vacant - some low stuff and the middle tones of the third guitar but it feels like it's a reverb channel - a popular device for a while...
The elements are very cool.

A very lovely song...
I really enjoyed listening to it...
Perhaps someday you will add lyrics...
These are the rough lyrics I heard as it played...

Stardust on the moon
Drifting down from heaven
Covering you hair
With glimmers of gold

As I hold you in my arms
And we dance in the moonlight
My heart's rekindled with love
We had in days of old

Stardust on the moon
Stardust on the moon
Filling my heart with love
For you

Stardust on the moon
Stardust on the moon
Filling my heart with love
For you

Alan, that's quite a lovely arrangement! Great job putting this together! This could be used as a promotional tool by BIAB to sell the product! Thanks, Torrey

Al,
That`s a lovely vehicle you`ve created for the nylon guitar.
Very atmospheric of the olde west!

Alan,

This is beautiful...as are all of your instrumentals. Always well thought out, nicely put together. Really "shows off" BIAB - and your skills using it...

Beautiful.

Very beautiful tune, that style is one of the best in BIAB. Excellent chording, it really makes the nylon guitar sound real - like it was playing just for this tune.

Nice!

I'm a big fan of the waltz time in the first place, and the nylon string lead is lovely.

Hi Ray ...

Thanks for the listen and comments. When I get a chance, I'll fill in that left channel a little better. Glad you enjoyed it otherwise. Thanks again ...

Talent + BiaB is a helluva combination - as demonstrated with this composition.

A showcase within the showcase!

Really nice Al and very cinematic...hope you have it on Songtradr.

PS Did add a separate stick track to put the verb on?

Alan,

Really nice man. Very smooth.

I want to apologize for being so absent from the forum. Also, I will be candid that this part of the post is kind of a generic “form letter” to my old and new forum friends.

In brief, work is very hectic right now and I am having a hard time keeping up with the forum and even writing new songs. There is also a lot of new material hitting the boards—more than I can listen to and reply. People are on a roll!

Instead of backing away from the forum I want to stay involved by just giving the equivalent of a “like” as opposed to full-fledged commentary.

This way, I can just keep listening, and enjoying and reply with a simple LOVE IT or something like that.

I do listen, love your stuff and really want to continue following those who are so dedicated to encouraging others, even if it is only with one word.

Hope this makes sense, thanks for your artistry and forgive my brevity going forward with massive time constraints.

Also forgive me if you see this message more than once until I know I have covered all my bases.

Peace!!

What a great mood you've set with this piece. The melody is strong, the backing and progression easy to listen to. I'd put an album of such pieces on for those special occasions. Very, very nice.

Dear Alan,

first of all: We hope that Di is improving or, even better, has become totally cured again. And that you two can get a bit relieved from all those sorrows illness causes.

Yes, I 100% agree: BIAB is just invaluable (which doesn't mean PG shpuld raise it's price :)), and, yes, I can't think of anything I'd rather spend my dough on, too.

But as marvellous as it may be: It takes a lot of musicianship to be able to come up with such a nice song like STARDUST ON THE MOON.

It's a very appealing song, got me to sit back and listen to it with my eyes cllosed - just lovely. (But to be honest: Wouldn't have expected anything less good from your side.)

Dear Alan, all the best to Di and you and thanks for another very, very nice compistion and production.

Take good care,

Stefan

Hi Al-David, fantastic choice of instrumentation on this. The different elements really glue well together and excellent guitar riffs too. Thanks for sharing!

I thought of some of the romantic scenes of any of the great Italian film directors of the 50's & 60'--Fellini, Rosselini, Bertolucci -- though the contemporaries no doubt carry on. Not just the classical guitar, but it never hurts.

Alan,
Beautiful N.string ballad. Arrangement and mix shines!
I stumbled upon Jim's post with lyrics. I think they might work very well on this.

Thank you for sharing!

Hi Folks ...

That is so nice of you to say. Thank you so much! Someday I hope I'll really get to know the deeper offerings of BIAB.

Re the stick ... no, I didn't bring in an outside track. I EQ'ed the BIAB drum track such that the sidestick was dominant. I then added a moderate amount of plate reverb and the tiniest amount of delay to it and then synched it back into the the other tracks. Took me about half an hour to do so. I think the reverb on the sidestick adds a whole new dynamic to the overall sound.

Wishing you both the very best.

Thank you, David.

Glad you enjoyed the song. I always appreciate your comments.

As far as I am concerned, no apology is needed. I'm well aware, from personal experience, how those things go. There many times it tales all my attention to care for Di. So, when you do get a chance to comment, as simple two or three word comment is just fine. And if you don't have the time at all, no problem. Friendship and appreciation are based on frequency of comments' Rather, on the person himself/herself. I consider you a good friend. So, we're good, no matter what your time dictates.

Wishing you success at your efforts and the best to you and your family.

Howdy Tangmo.

Hi Alan,

Travelling is still keeping me away from the forum more than I'd like, but I just had
time to play this one of yours.

It's dusk here in England, with a hint of a sunset and I just put up my feet and
drifted away for a few minutes. After a busy day with the grandchildren, this track is more
relaxing than a glass of wine, yoga, or anything else you care to mention.

Many thanks for that.

Take care my friend and all the best.

ROG.

Wow - you really did a great job on this one smile I love the velvety textures on this. It is so calm, and almost mysterious. The nylon guitar adds a lot of character, and I found the mix to be concise and professional too.

Thanks for sharing!

Languid, melodic playing, liked it all but especially the turnarounds. I will own a nylon one day, when I can find an inexpensive, short-scale, thin-necked one that sounds good.

Hello Alan,

This is a very sweet melancholic song. Nearly wept...
I love nylon guitars, that sound is so impressive.
Used it a lot in older songs. Think of picking it up again, thanks to your song.

Have a nice day,

I'd like make a group "Thank You!" to all who have commented so nicely on this song since my last comment.

DI's health has tanked again, rendering her more disabled than before. Thus, much of my time is dedicated to helping her. I may occasionally post some songs that have already been recorded but not yet posted. But there will probably nothing "new", per se, for a while. Will drop in for a listen as I can and leave a comment or two.

Again, many thanks! I truly appreciate your kind comments. Wishing everyone the very best.
