A little Country Swamp Rock.

And another dangerous woman...

DANGEROUS

everyone said she was trouble
you really need to leave it alone
call it a day walk away
some sins can't be atoned
she'll take you down so deep
you'll never make it back
word is the devil tried
and even that boy cracked
the girl is dangerous

   cross that line
   you'll leave behind
your heart, your mind, your soul
   it's a long hard fall
   she'll take it all
   and you'll lose all control
   you got it bad
   any chance you had
   long ago was lost
   the girl is dangerous

i thought i could handle
anything she threw my way
little did i know
the tricks that girl could play
those emerald eyes
that hypnotize
an intoxicating kiss
aiming every whisper at my heart
she never seemed to miss
the girl is dangerous

   cross that line
   you'll leave behind
your heart, your mind, your soul
   it's a long hard fall
   she'll take it all
   and you'll lose all control
   you got it bad
   any chance you had
   long ago was lost
   the girl is dangerous

   i crossed that line
   left behind
my heart, my mind, my soul
   a long hard fall
   she took it all
   and i lost all control
   i got it bad
   any chance i had
   long ago was lost
   the line's been crossed
   the girl is dangerous

Superb use of Band In A Box and Loops (assume drums -anything else?) to create an amazing cohesive sound.

Great song (as expected) loved the style & powerful vocals.

Love to know how you put that one together!

Truly excellent!

Loved this Floyd. Super vocal lyric. Backtrack was perfect. Loved your mix and production

Well now!
That's some damn good work.
Great production from top to bottom.

Something about dangerous women, ain't there.
I've got one on that subject I'll post some day.

Floyd, your use of the realtracks in this tune are the best I can remember listening to since I've been around here! You must have spent a tremendous amount of time sorting these out! I can't hear ANYTHING that sounds "off" in any way! It's such a clean production and everything falls into place perfectly! If PG Music doesn't use this as a promo tool for their product, they are really missing a great opportunity as far as I'm concerned! Thanks, Torrey

Wow! This is as good as it gets! My new favorite of yours (and that's saying a lot!)

Great use of RT's and loops. Your vocals are as good as ever. Particularly like your bgv's. Very well done!

Great write!

Love the intro - it set up the song and hooks me right away.

Super fun listen - well sung, interesting instrument parts, catchy rhymes, cool harmony. Sounds a bit like an extended theme song for television show.

Man, you've got a hot band there! (And the singer's not bad either laugh ).

Hi Floyd,

As a big fan of guys like CCR, Tony Joe White, Redbone and many others, this hit me right between the pick-ups. I loved it. And I love it when I play a song that has me turning the volume up to 10 right away. smile

Your vocal slides over the lyrics like molasses on a hot day, every nuance perfectly fits each line. And the production is awesome. Great job.

Keep 'em coming Swamp Thing! smile

All the best

Lyrics are top class.

Hi floyd,

Now *this* is my type of country, something with a little attitude! Sort of a Steve Earle vibe happening.

Great intro! And those drums! Love the kick, snare too; great groove and sitting in the mix loud and proud.

Nice job mixing the guitars, the way you have them panned sounds fabulous through the phones; a little conversation happening there between them.

Good idea using two different bass realtracks! It's never crossed my mind to do that, but it works a treat to give the chorus a distinct feel.

And of course love your vocal and writing:

"she'll take you down so deep
you'll never make it back
word is the devil tried
and even that boy cracked
the girl is dangerous"

Nice!

Great start to 2020!

Floyd,
An amazingly tight band on a cool edgy song that`s still so darn catchy.
The use of loops and editing nuance is nothing short of benchmark use of the software...
I`d love to see you make another video on your process ( heck, this is good enough PG Music might want to think about a contractual arrangement for sharing the wisdom!).
Loved it.

Brothers Osborne. That.

And thanks again for making us aware of them.

Hi Floyd,

I thought the whiskey-songs were your latest, but then (by accident) I ran into this newest of yours.
I was listening to another song on SoundCloud and right after that your song came. I had to listen! Very powerful. That was the word that came up, when hearing your song. Other words to describe your son are cool and relaxing. I picture myself drinking a whiskey in some old tavern, on my own, sad (and all that) and then this song starts playing! Makes me ordering another whiskey.
Very well done, Floyd!

Love that swamp thing. I think I came up with leeches when it ended. John Deere hats off to the band and arrangement. Way to bring that warning to others back to the reason you can speak with so much authority. GREAT lyric. Not a wasted syllable spelling out the dangers of the woman and delivered with your impeccable and natural phrasing, with some help from "pushes", I think, in the band. Outstanding.

Thanks, ray!!

The vocal is a pretty standard treatment for me these days.
Recorded using an AT4033a microphone (had it for 25 years) through a Focusrite Scarlett directly into Studio One.
I drop a Nectar preset on it (Country - Big Booty). There is a big low end bump in the EQ for that preset that I pull down a bunch. And I turn on the delay (it is not included in the preset).
The harmonies use the same preset. Again with the low EQ bump pulled down and the delay turned on. I also turn on the doubler for those.
That is pretty much all I do...

Hi Floyd,

Well yes, this is my kind of music - a bit of blues mixed in with the country.

The groove is what makes this so fabulous. It really kicks right from the off and
keeps trucking right the way through. Even when you scale it back later on it
keeps pushing forward.

Obviously the lyrics are cool and the vocals are superb.

Dare I mention a solo? Maybe not....

Hi Floyd, sorry for my belatedness.

Wow, the girl may be dangerous, but this song is more than that: it's infectious.

To me one of your best. Great singing (love the harmony vocals a lot), a perfect backing track, everything sounds brilliantly. A treat !.

Take care,

Stefan

I'm not late to the party, I'm pretty sure it was yesterday. cry

I'm assuming this was the song that knocked 10,000 hours off the Billboard country chart? Talk about dropping the mic. Wow! It has that "Any questions? I didn't think so!" kind of feel. Sort of a "Bullrider" meets "The Devil Went Down To Georgia."

Man, this song is exactly as it should be. Strong musical presence combined with a strong voice and harmonies; to demonstrate how powerful this woman is. Love it! It's not some wimpy boy likes a girl song. It's MAN talking about a WOMAN. By nature, that is going to grab your attention. Everything about this song is cohesive to that premise.

Damn, just a great song. I hope they write a movie base on it! wink

Great as always!

(Text to speech, so there may be errors)

A nice demonstration of what good song writing and BIAB can do when both are let out into the back yard at the same time....

Great arrangement, production and performance. A good write. All together, quite as dangerous a combination as the wrong woman...
Posted By: Noel96 Re: Dangerous - 02/05/20 07:38 PM
Hi floyd,

This is an incredible testimony to your prowess as a singer, songwriter, arranger and producer. From every perspective, you get the gold medal for this. (I love your vocals especially).

I'm sitting here and listening through my headphones. The sound I'm hearing is awesome. No-one who encounters this song would think that it's a product of backing generation software. It's so easy to 'see' the group who is performing this inside my mind.

I've listened to this a few times this morning trying to isolate the loops that you've used. It's been time very well spent! The more I think about it, the more it seems to me that the loops are seriously helping to boost the feeling of 'contemporary music' in this arrangement. Honesty, the sound radiates super-professional in stereo!

And the way these lyrics flow using the combination of meter, rhyme and lack of rhyme is incredible. I love that the hook is not rhymed; it really makes it stand out.

Below is how I see/hear the lyrics from a technical perspective. The hook scans as either 3 or 4 feet (using poetic terms).

How the word "dangerous" is sung makes determining the meter of the hook line a little harder. As I hear it, it's sung with three equally weighted syllables -- thus the word is 3 feet long. This makes the line 4 feet long. From a dictionary's perspective, though, "dangerous" has a stong-weak-medium syllable-strength pattern. As this makes the word only 2 feet long, the line then scans as 3 feet.

At the end of the day, though, the meter of the hook line doesn't matter because it has no rhythm-and-rhyme relationship to any thing else in the song… it stands alone. That's the important bit and, most significantly, this is was makes it stand out as the hook... brilliant craftsmanship.

In the chorus where the 2-2-3, 2-2-3 meter runs rampant, it's so good how you set the listener up with this very engaging lyric rhythm by using it three times. Then you pull the rug out from under the listener by interrupting the balancing fourth lot of 2-2-3 and using the title line! This surprise factor enhances the impact of the hook incredibly well.

Lastly, I congratulate you on creating a lyric that is easily changed to accommodate a female singer. It’s very versatile in this regard.

Yet another work of songwriting art!

All the best,
Noel
