I'd call this a three minute song of deep and abiding love. Except it's not. I do like other people's pets, though.

https://soundcloud.com/user-47797156/the-dogs-name

This is a thorough rework of an old tune. Not the world's strongest melody, but I hope it holds together. BIAB 2019 suggested the BBBlues style to replace the original midi.

Bass RT 579
Main Guitar RT 584
Second Guitar RT 573
Bass RT 579
RD Nashville even 8 a/b

I added Harmonica RT 586

The EP was a midi track run though my old Kurzweil saved from the old project. So is the organ/pads...though it is barely audible, I missed it when I took it out.

Mixed in Reaper with mostly Izotope plugins.

This was written for RPM 2007 and made it to the CD that came out of that, entitled THOU SHALT.

The Dog's Name

Just got back for the weekend
Still don't feel like home.
Even the dog ignored me
and sat there chewin' his bone.
I guess I should be happy
he didn't bark and growl.
I've been gone for a long time
But this cat is back home now.

Just don't call me the dog's name
Or put me back in the show.
Just don't call me the dog's name
He don't even like the rock and roll.
Just don't call me the dog's name
or make me share his bowl.
Just don't call me the dog's name
and baby, we'll be good to go.

I remember the pup
Now he's big as a mule
He craps his weight in groceries
And gives the kids a ride to school
He's got his spot on the bed
And he's circling around
You lay there rubbin' his head
I should've name the mutt "Get Down".

Just don't call me the dog's name
Or put me back in the show.
Just don't call me the dog's name
He don't even like the rock and roll.
Just don't call me the dog's name
or make me share his bowl.
Just don't call me the dog's name
and baby, we'll be good to go.

I disagree as I think the melody is very strong, as is your vocal.

You had my toe tapping right from the git go. Great mix also.

I liked everything about this.

It's the rhythm and the mood that makes this song sounds excellent.
Don't mind about the 'greatness' of the melody. Your vocals are very, very good on this kind of music. And I love that voice. I don't even come close to it when having a cold.
Make me more of this kind of songs with such a voice!
But, give me the dogs name...

Always tough competing with the dog.

A fun tune. The band sounds good. I like your vocal!

Enjoyed

An enjoyable piece - really liked the gruff sounding vocal and underlying band.

Really liked this one.

Hi Tangmo,

This is a good, fun listen. You entertained me smile

I don't recall hearing this particular combination of Realtracks before but it sure creates a great groove! My feet were tapping along.

Your writing, singing, arranging and producing all sound excellent to me.

All the best,
Noel

Holds quite well together, Tangmo. The lyrics, the melody and the delivery wrap a nice package, although I'd prefer the vocal a bit more out front.

Tangmo,
I think your melody is quite sophisticated for this genre.
Excellent write. Has a cool scratchy vintage feel to it. Very well performed. Fun stuff. Thank you for sharing!

Misha.

Glad you decided to rework this, don't think I ever heard the original but I really like this, great groove.

You have the perfect voice for this sort of material too, just the right edge to it.

Nice!

Cool vocal. Loved the production on this . Well done

A great write...
Unique idea & great lyrics...
Your vocals also add to the pleasant experience of the song...
Good Job Mr T!

Cool, cool, song.

The melody hooks, and that's all that matters.

"Just don't call me the dog's name..." Great!

I really liked this.

A very clever write ( ok, some details made me squirm & laugh at the same time) with the vocal very much "in character" with the lyrics.
Everything sounds good on the mix.
What`s 2007 RPM?

A good lyric and melody backed by a solid BIAB band.
The vocal is really good but the essing and whatever is throwing edges of the vocal over to the left are quite distracting.
Posted By: TuneMonger Re: The Dog's Name (PG Rating) - 02/11/20 10:36 PM
Very good vocal and good lyrics made for a great listen, thanks!

Vocal really sits perfect with the style you've captured.

There'a really a lot to like about this.

Fun lyrics.

Interesting dark blues with a good story, I enjoyed the chording and the melody. Good band and vocals, the piano gives nice vibe addition.

Tangmo,

Clever stuff here! Love the vocal and man is that chorus ever good! Love the band also! Thanks, Torrey!

Hi Tangmo,

HUGE, HUGE fun !!!!!

Great entertaining song, couldn't keep my feet from tappong. The way you sing those funny lines - Mr Cool himself showing up today. Just great !

Cheers,

Sorry to be so late. LOTS of songs nowadays on the forum!

The melody is fine and what a cool idea for a write.

Fine vocal, mix and RT choices wrap it all up. That dobro
really caries it.

Not too big on using the term...but, well, "catchy." It genuinely sticks
with you -- lyrically and melodically.

Lot of fun!

Excellent!!! Loved it :-) I used (past tense, sadly) to have an amazing dog, so I can totally relate, lol. Bravo!!! Oh, and the melody is just fine! :-) Earthy rhythm from the backing track and cool harmonic progressions makes it irrelevant if it's not "Casta Diva" or something in terms of melodic finesse. It works just perfect, and I mean that, here! :-) All in my humble view, of course :-)

Bravo - having heard some of your other tracks too, what a genuinely great musician you truly are.

Thanks, Mario. It was written in a hurry for one of those "write an album in a month" things (RPM 2007) so any misgivings I have about the melody relate to how too similar the verses and choruses are.

Alright, Hans. The Dog's name was Boo Boo, so thus shall you ever be Boo Boo to me.

Thanks, Peter. The first iteration was quite a bit thinner. I was happy with the Band and what it delivered this time around.

I'd prefer the vocal to be a bit more out of somebody else's mouth. wink Thanks for the listen and I'll do better mixing next time.

2007 RPM was one of those "write and record an album in a month" things. I participated in 2007 (February). I tried again in 2008, but my computer died days into the month. Musically, the best single month of my life.

That's probably a combination of two different delays on two iterations of the vocal track. Sorry for the whiplash.

Thanks, Janne. The first iteration was more EP based and followed my chords a bit better, but I like this groove better.

'Tangmo', and everybody else who reads this comment...

I swear to God Almighty in the heavens above that the icons on the notification bar at the top of my tablet screen were moving right-left-right-left in sync with the slam-dunk rhythm of your funky, rockin' song, The Dog's Name laugh.

I. Am. Not. Lying.

'Tangmo', partner, you done cooked-up some blues/rock music that was as juicy and fingah-lickin' good as rack'a slow-mo smoked ribs served with crisp cole slaw an' spaghetti with spicy meat sauce on it laugh. I imagined I was hearin' a live band throwin' it down in a packed bar/music venue, with plenty'a patrons bustin' soulful, sexy moves on the dance floor.

Wish I could give ya' a 'high five' through the User's Forum for this tasty blues, but I reckon I'll jes have'ta wait on that one.

Place this track on the mantlepiece over your fireplace, if ya' got one!

Groovin' like a hipster,

LOREN (a.k.a. 'bluage')

P.S. Your lyrics were 'a hoot' laugh , and, if that was YOU singin', I wanna hear more. Mean it. The gruffness and grit in your voice was perfect for this song, man.

Most enjoyable Tangomo. Brought a smile to my face ! Nowt wrong with your voice at all. Some of the pop stars ? AIN'T nearly as good AND they use voice correction as well. Spice girls but to name one lot. They were still gettin singin lessons when they were at the height of their career for cryin out loud. This is a great song no mistake !

Wow - this is such a fun tune, and nice and easy on the ears smile Your vocals are top notch, and I personally loved the melodies on this.

Thanks for sharing!

Liked the attitude in your singing and the song was good. The song lyrics raised more questions than gave answers but it was generally fun and fit the song well. Harp was good.
