https://soundcloud.com/torrey-bliss/take-me-awayA little tune I wrote this week about longing for home! I ended up playing most of the instruments on this to make it all fit. The one instrument I reluctantly played was the pedal steel (actually played on my Yamaha keyboard). I just couldn't make the realtracks fit the tune so I went ahead and played it. This will probably be my last one for a while because of everything going on in my life right now. I hope someone enjoys the song!

Take Me Away
Words and music by
Torrey Bliss copyright 2020
I remember the time
When life was so simple
Just drifting along
With my head in the clouds
Then came the chains
Of a cruel taskmaster
Endless struggle goes on and on
One helping hand
Withdrawn in a moment
One points the way
To another wrong road
When will I learn
My answer has waited
In front of me here all along
You've made a way for me
The pain and tears will pass away
But until that day I know I'll plead
Take me away where living waters flow
Take me away I really I want to go
Take me away to joy I've never know
Take me away
You may think I'm down
But my story's not over
There's work left to do
So much is not done
As time marches on
I must use it wisely
But still I want to be there with you
Great track.
Hey, hope things work out all right.
Best wishes and see you again, soon I hope. (ed)
Lyrics fit the tune really well. Nice vibe!
You've constructed a really solid, smooth bed for the melody Torrey.
The vocal performance is excellent - always assured and seemingly effortless.
The disembodied backing vocals work really well & were a nice surprise.
A yearning narrative and your golden tones.

Excellent!!
Sounds like a track that could have been on a Steely Dan album.
Man, such attention to detail! Lots of subtle stuff going on.
Loved your vocal those background vocals at 2:40 or so sounded great.
Good beyond good!
Superb in every way. Man, this song really does take us all away with you. Can't say I know you, Torrey, but I really love what you do, and hope to see you doing more soon.
This tune expresses the longing perfectly, lyrics work on many levels. Wistful voice, nice chording and harmonic band complete the package, the pedal steel has nice sound and the melody it plays is an enjoyable addition. I hope the "cruel taskmaster" is not taking all of your time this year
Janne
Dave's reference to Steely Dan was spot on.
The more melancholy hints in the lyric lead us even more so
to wish you the best for the year given your statement.
Longing, wistful and soulful indeed.
And, it almost goes w/o saying, it's all wrapped in
a fine mix that sets a great soundstage.
Best to you!

This is SO beautiful in every aspect. Loved the background voices - the chorus is inspired. To be honest, I can't really analyse this one because I just sat back and listened, it is that beautiful - so I can't and can't bring myself to pick it apart in the name of an "analytical critique". Just know that it is a genuine "hell yes" from me - and I wish you the very best with whatever life is throwing at you lately. Thanks for this track - it was exactly what I needed at exactly the right time.
I am really impressed with your musicianship.
There is a lot to like about this song. Melody, singing, songwriting. The production is so beautifully textured.
Thanks so much Ed! I always appreciate your comments! T
As usual, excellent writing, performance and production, Torrey.
Hope all is well.
Regards,
Leon
Hi Torrey. Lovely track, enjoyed the backing as much as the vocals. Hope things improve for you.
Torrey
A superb composition. Everything about it oozes professionalism.
Loved it.

Wow Torrey, this is a very good one from you. And I thought I heard all your good ones before.
Its also the first time I use the word 'wow' in a post ever. So its very special when that happens!
Of course I also tried to listen if you made any mistake in it, but forgot to concentrate on that, because of the attraction of your terrific song.
Have I said 'wow' before?
Hans
The steel guitar sounds great!
Actually, it
all sounds great.
Love the jazzy chords - I'm a sucker for the maj7 sound. Great harmonies.
Glad you could sneak in a song before you disappear for a while!
Great recording. I love the instruments you play. Good use of BIAB too. Lovely melody and vocals. Sounds like the golden age of 70's hits. Well done. I hope all goes okay for you. Let the music take you away.
Loved the tone on the Guitars Torrey. Super vocal and lyric. Some very cool effects.

That's called social media, though why they would call something so anti-social that is beyond me.
Loved this soft-rock tribute. I especially liked the heavily E!'d vox nearer the end. You seem to have a "theme" lately. I hope all goes well for you, no matter the cause.
Thanks Janne for your comments! I appreciate it! T
Thanks J&B! I always appreciate your comments! T

Torrey,
Love what you do . . . always such clean production and compelling vocal. The backing vocal in the chorus really resonate. An 80’s feel to this, with just hint of Steely Dan. Really impressive tune deserving of lots of listens.
Humbly yours,
Deej
Wow - what a song! It's been mentioned, but the production quality is astounding here. Really top notch stuff. Nicely catchy, and the vocals work perfectly with the backing tracks. The tones on the guitar are wonderful as well, the chorus had me sold.
Thanks so much for sharing

Hwy Torrey....
Very good....I like this one.
Good performance, like the chorus, very smooth, easy listening vibe to this one.
Well done on all fronts.
Back in '74 I wrote a song with the same title....finished by never worthy of recording.
The difference is my song sucks and yours is very good.
Hope all is well...
I watched your video yesterday...
Then I discovered this post...
I like said...
You've created a beautiful uplifting song!
