Lyrics

By the way you walk apart from me
I know that we are through
By the way I feel inside my heart
I'm sure what we must do
We knew each other's inner world
How could we come to this
Such an empty feeling now
When we pose to kiss
And though we'll learn to love again, some sweet but distant day
I've never loved more deeply, by the way

By the way you keep on working
When I really want to talk
By the way I'm unresponsive
When we're out upon a walk
We cross each other up so much
As fading lovers do
Unsure of all the steps to take
In the dance they bid adieu
And though we'll learn to love again, some sweet but distant day
I've never loved more deeply, by the way

And though we'll learn to love again, some sweet but distant day
I've never loved more deeply, by the way

Very sweet, soulful song. Great singing as well. Well done!

TuneMonger,

Sweet, sad song—nice vocal by Marcus, and strong write with some nice lines, particularly those first four in the second verse, both good examples of a relationship drifting apart. The dreamy solo guitar really adds something to the tune—lovely. Great collaboration—enjoyed it!

All my best,

Deej

Very delicate lyrics, beautiful melody and chording, like a lost classic from the 70's, reminds me of Elton John. Great emotional singing. I like how the piano is mixed distant, it gives the song a live living room feeling.

what a sad lyric! (without being maudlin). A good write.

Really interesting chord progression. It makes that Country BAND sound like they want to break into some jazz (because of that, I thought the Nashville Even8 drums were a bit "stiff" for the song).

I was actually hoping that we would hear you singing this... smile

You really kept my interest throughout.

Nicely mixed.

An excellent lyric getting the subtlety of a relationship going down ; I enjoyed the sad soul searching!
The vocalist sounds very good and nails the jazzy tinged melody... I guess the latter element I expected to come more to the fore as the song developed; the guitar break is sweet just when I was thinking there`d be horns.
Never mind my expectations- this is really good work!

Interesting turn, Tunemonger. Vocals do have a lot of presence, but it goes in well. I like the fact that you incorporating different singers. Listening to two of your songs, I would never had guessed they are written by one person smile Excellent arrangement and lyrics. Thank you for sharing.

Good vocal--very expressive voice.

Very pleasing melody. I like the 70s soulful love song feel of this.

Nice song Tunemomger.
Sad, but good, lyrics:
"We cross each other up so much
As fading lovers do
Unsure of all the steps to take
In the dance they bid adieu".
The vocalist did a great job too.
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice composition (sort of like a Dan Fogelberg song)with some nice changes.

The vocalist did a good job and it all sounds very good.

Nice changes!

Good writing too, and your singer did a fine job for you. Love that subtle guitar solo!

Good song, enjoyed!

Man, there's a lot to like here.

The progressions, the write and the vocalist are all excellent
as is the mix.

The lyric is an excellent love lost theme that avoids all the
cliches and overly angsty vocals. And that dreamy
guitar is perfect.

Outstanding!

Lovely narrative, melody and vocal tone.
The kick drum really doesn't fit the feel though - it's more click & batter than thump.
That can be addressed by EQ - it's a problem wit most RealDrums now.
Lovely stuff.

Hi Tunemonger,

Beautifully done. Love the chord sequence and instrumentation.

The solo was sublime - understated but just right.

Fabulous vocal and emotive lyrics.

All wrapped up in an excellent mix.

Thoroughly enjoyed.

Thanks to all who've commented about By the Way. I'm glad the chord progression was singled out, it's a good one that's been used often before I borrowed it. FJ and ray, thanks for the drum tips, I'm looking into that now. Thanks, MikeG, for quoting my favorite lyric line in the song, that made my day! I think my mixes are getting better, nobody dinged me there. Again, thanks for criticisms of any kind, I always give them a lot of consideration. ---Bob Millard AKA Tunemonger
