It would seem that while Tom & Janice were writing their "strong good ol' girl" song,
I was writing one, too... small world.
There are plenty of good-ol-boy songs.
So, a little balancing...

This one's a Country Boogie Blues Rock Shuffle

smile

GOOD OL' GIRL

she ain't one to sit idly by
while the good ol' boys talk trash
and she ain't sittin' shotgun
with her feet up on your dash
she slides in behind the wheel says "buckle up boy
'casue this girl's gonna show you fast"

she ain't one for daisy dukes
she wears wrangers with a crease
her boots aren't covered in rainbows and flowers
it's all scuffs, red clay and grease
her pony tail pulled through a mossy oak cap
a look that says "i do what i please"

   while good ol' boys
   party by the river
   she does her own thing
so you'll have to forgive her
she knows just who she is
   she's a good ol' girl
fair warning this good ol' girl's
   gonna rule your world

if you're looking for dainty and fragile
forget about looking here
she ain't satin or crinoline and lace
it's all camo and vintage john deere
don't let her hear you say a word against willie
keep your hands off her fishing gear

she'll take carolina barbecue
any day over french cuisine
buddy save that rose for your mama
she's partial to jim beam
some think she's a nightmare
but she's living the dream

   while good ol' boys
   party by the river
   she does her own thing
so you'll have to forgive her
she knows just who she is
   she's a good ol' girl
fair warning this good ol' girl's
   gonna rule your world

WOW, This is fantastic!
You have a wonderful way with words! "she ain't one for daisy dukes she wears wrangers with a crease
her boots aren't covered in rainbows and flowers
it's all scuffs, red clay and grease" You just gotta love lyrics like that!

Super groove, great vocal and lyrics all mix professionally then you throw is some very tasty guitar and you have a winner!

This is a winner!

Floyd,
Wow, maybe I missed other songs you played lead on, but the intro knocked me back to listen again; that and the fills throughout sound so good.
My favourite lines from an excellent write:

"it's all camo and vintage john deere
don't let her hear you say a word against willie
keep your hands off her fishing gear"

All the boxes are ticked - this is another corker of a tune, as they say where I`m from.

Hey Floyd ...

You one good old songwriter, too! But please, no pics of you in Daisy Dukes! Has a Travis Tritt vibe to it. First time, I think I've heard you play your own lead. You should do it more often! Still can't stop my foot from tapping and the song's been over for several minutes.

This has a thick layer of "really good" drenched all over it!

Bets to you & yours. Be safe ...

This is very, very, very good - which is par for the course from you :-) What makes this sound great, as opposed to "just" good, are the lyrics - at least in my view. Superb word painting. The arrangement and playing is great, the voice is wonderful as per usual - the lyrics make it fantastic. Well done.

Well, you had my attention just from reading the song description before I hit play: "Country Boogie Blues Rock Shuffle" wink
I thought, man, that would be like me doing a traditional country song eek

But you nailed it; Great song, great groove, fun and well written lyrics.

And, you have been holding out in the guitar department! I had no idea you could play electric leads. Nicely done, I especially like what you did for the intro.

Love your vocal in this one! Very strong, especially during the chorus.

Nice stops in the chorus!

Drums sound awesome too.

Yeah! Well done, floyd smile

Another stellar (or maybe Stella for this one, I know two Stella's, both Kuntry Gurls wink ) write, arrangement and performance. While that great guitar performance and tone draws well deserved attention, your care in handling the vocal dynamics is outstanding on this song and caught my ear. I really like this song and will be coming back to listen some more.

Hi Floyd,

A nice Boogie Woogie you made here!
You can feel Corona is comming to an end, or at least lets all hope it does.
Than there can be parties where the band plays this kind of moody songs.
I liked how you sing the chorusses. Bright and very relaxed!
A good song, Floyd!

A nice bluesy number with your usual panache. Enjoyed the lyric, the addition of your guitar, and the impassioned vocal performance.

An excellent addition to your catalogue.

Thanks, Robert. I played some fills on one of Janice & Bud's songs... But this is the first time I've played any extended leads on anything...

Lots of fantastic comments need to be bestowed on you for this extraordinary delivery.

This is absolutely full of Wow Factor

Knockout lyrics, and sensational vocal delivery.

"she ain't satin or crinoline and lace
it's all camo and vintage john deere"

How good is that!

Very cool rocker!
Loved lyrics and phrasing on this. Delivery is super strong. Excellent write. Guitars worked really well, loud, but not over the edge. You probably had a blast recording this smile

Floyd,

Great vibe right out of the gate—foot-tapping, head-rocking. I think this is among your best vocals, e.g., the way you drag out “fast” in the last line of the first verse. All the stops are right on time. Great lyrics—paints a perfect picture of just who this “good ol’ girl” is. Top to bottom—stellar, stellar, stellar. Outstanding work!

My humble regards,

Deej

You know this isn’t the first time that we’ve written songs at the same time that have a similar theme. Funny how that happens. It could be you’re starting to rub off on me. That’s a good thing! Another good thing is your continued success in writing relatable lyrics. Also I would be remiss if I did not mention your tasteful leads and fills. Well done. Another in what is becoming a long line of wonderfully written and performed songs. Always a pleasure to see you post a new one. You are an inspiration to many here, Tom

Ah (pronounced awe), there's nothing better than a country boogie shuffle to stir the morning coffee. You are definitely at the top of recording standard, Floyd. For me it's like a limbo bar I'm too old to reach. What a wonderful mix, everything rides on the surface just below the vocals and solos which glide nicely over them.

WAY TO GO, FLOYD !

Sounds like the song that was missing from the film "My Cousin Vinny".
I turned up the volume as soon as I heard the first bar and let it rock.

Hey, what's not to like here? Classic backing track, superb break-down in the chorus,
wonderful signature vocals and well, THAT guitar.

Just when I thought I'd heard it all, there's that 24 bar guitar solo at the end.
I never knew you could play like that! This is definitely a guitarist's track.
I glad all my nagging about solos finally paid off.

Did I say I liked this one....

Nicely done.

ROG.

Well being lovers of shuffles we were hooked from the get go...

I've oft heard that if you're gonna be a songwriter you gotta have something to say...and you never run out. But it's more than that it's also how you say it. This is a wonderful example of taking a theme and enriching it with outstanding imagery and rhymes. There's enough in this one song to make two or three good ones.

Your vocals are not only excellent but they are always well recorded, processed and mixed...and this is another fine example of that. Not as easy to do as one might think.

So who is this cool guitar player you keep in your basement and claim credit for? He nailed this puppy. BTW, Janice immediately knew it was you when we played it. And it's been a while smile

The mix is super being nice and open and "everybody" having their place on the stage.

Oh yeah, nice SC photo also.

Kudos mr jane!

Dang.... I thought I had commented on this already. I do remember hearing it earlier in the week.

Cool rocking groove. Nothing to complain about there. Good mix.

I knew a girl like that. She was the cuz of another drummer but for some reason she took up with the drummer in the band I was in. She was redneck as hell and he wasn't. Never did figure that one out. I remember one night she was trash talking about a Marine who was in the club and he told the drummer to muzzle her. Wrong thing to say. She kicked that Marine’s butt and he was bigger than her. Hold on tight ..... maybe he let her win... Male chauvinist and all that. I don't know what was worse for him... Getting ragged by his buddies for beating up a girl half his size or getting beat up by a girl half his size. I reckon he figured it out. She was something else. I was kind of relieved when he quit and we didn't have to put up with her mouth.

Yep...I liked the song. Sorry I missed commenting on it earlier.
