This is what happens when you work with chord substitutions on the standard 12-bar blues. Sometimes you have parts left over. This tune has 13 bars, what's not to like?

Twist of Blue

I'm playing the guitars. It's an ES-335 recorded direct into Studio One.
Most of the piano is from the MIDI parts of the RealTracks; some of it is me. The piano is from Arturia Analog Lab.

The band is:
RealTracks in style: 3476:Bass, Acoustic, JazzBluesNeilAB Sw 140

This really is top notch. You know you're in that range when everything just fits perfectly into the mix, flows effortlessly, and then you catch those subtle flourishes of the guitar and piano, without a beat missed, and realize you're in the big leagues here. I could totally see myself dropping this on the turntable, mixing a drink, dimming down the lights, and just letting this wash over the room.

Hello Ray ...

Thirteen bars? If I were a drinker, that would definitely get me drunk!!

Seriously, this is top shelf, sweet as honey playing. Wish I still had my 335 ... and my 175. Oh well, my Stromberg Monterey is treating me pretty good.

You have some serious talent and I'm enjoying everything about this. the brushes perfectly placed in the mix. Sometimes it's a very tedious adjustment to get them loud enough they aren't swallowed by the other tracks, yet forward enough to nicely contribute and support.

Exceptionally well written and presented. best to you. Be safe ...

Alan

Cool, sweet, smooth, and masterfully created.

Words like 'Nice' come immediately to mind.

Thirteen Bar Jazz.
Well, you pulled it off well.
Nice guitar playing.
The backing is, suitably, anonymous except where you threw in the matches on piano - those were lovely touches that really lifted, in those moments, the backing into an interactive part of the track.
In my head I heard those parts as guitar & vibes - weird me.

rayc, you're actually right!. There ARE vibes (and piano) playing with the melody sometimes.
Melodyne rules for that sort of monkey business.

RayL

It’s your deft arpeggios that make it sound great, cause there’s some wicked reharmonizing going on... the guitar stays relaxed and keeps it going. Great playing...

Makes me think of David Baker’s blues reharms in his bebop books. (And his book on Blues) Whenever I try to play these weird chord progressions they always sound far out, but the way you play them, they really make sense.

Thanks. I do spend a lot of time working on being able to hear this type of harmonic material so that it flows naturally.
