Seven Times Seventy

In the Bible.
In the Book of Matthew.
Peter asks Jesus how many times he needs to forgive his brother.
I don't think Peter liked the answer.

I wrote this song for singing in Kid's Church.

It is one of 16 songs on a CD I hope to release in August!

Sunday Songs for Every Day

The Band:
I added the 12 strings guitars and panned them full Left and Right.
I thought that it made for a nice big strummed sound.

Mixed in Reaper

Seven Times Seventy

Peter came to Jesus with a question for Him
How often must I bear my brother’s sin?
If they sin against me seven times today
What should I do?
Do it Jesus’ way!

Seven times seventy
Seven times seventy
I said, seven times seventy
You must forgive your brother.

Seven times seventy
That’s four hundred and ninety
That’s an infinity
You must forgive your brother.

So if you’ve been offended by what somebody said
And what they did to you just spins in your head
Now if they sin you against you seven times today
What are you gonna do?
Do it Jesus’ way!

Seven times seventy
I said, seven times seventy
I said, seven times seventy
You must forgive your brother.

Seven times seventy
That’s four hundred and ninety
That’s an infinity
You must forgive your brother.

Cool song Marty and good production.
I made the mistake of listening to your song just prior to hitting the sack . So instead of counting sheep I am going to be counting 7 X 70 all night !! I may not think your song is so cool in the AM (just kidding).

A winner here. A nice vocal with the perfect backing tracks.

"So if you’ve been offended by what somebody said
And what they did to you just spins in your head
Now if they sin you against you seven times today
What are you gonna do?
Do it Jesus’ way!" is my favorite line!

A great job writing and performing this.

Thanks Gary!
When singing with the kids I like to turn it into a math contest.
7 x 1 is.....
7 x 2 is.....

This might take all night!

Thanks Mario!
The genesis of this song came when I showed up late for a class to sing.
I said "Sorry I'm late".
The teacher said "Seven times seventy".
I said "Hey that sounds like a song!"

I'd have thought the verse too wordy and too fast for kids...I'm sure they'd manage the chorus though.
Any chance of making it gender neutral? It reads like boys get forgiven and girls don't..impressionable minds remember.

Marty, liked this alot...great way to "sink" in such an important message to kids.
One thought I had...right after your first chorus line of "7 x 70", there's space for the kids to clap their hands, once per beat, about 5 times...might inject some additional energy in a spot where there's a bit of gap...just an idea.
Thanks for posting!!

Wow Ray I had never thought of that issue.
Maybe its not a problem thought because I often hear young ladies say "Hey guys" when referring to other girls.
I often add in "sister, and mother and father" at the end when playing live with the kids.

Thanks Tom: Yes that is a great idea. It so funny that the recorded tune is only 2 minutes and 10 seconds long, but when playing live it goes on and on and on.
Lots of great ideas here.

Thanks for taking the time to listen!

Definitely can see this as a Sunday school staple. Good message for us adults to remember too.

Hi Marty,

Good strong playing and vocals. I also enjoyed the lyrics. This is a great way to integrate an important teaching into a song for kids. Kudos brother and good luck on the CD

This great man. Love it.

We should do 7 x 70 for kids and 7 billion x 7 trillion for adults.

Marty,

Out of the gate, having peeked at the lyrics, I wasn’t quite expecting the tempo and bluegrass feel . . . but, boy, does that all work. Great lyrics and an equally terrific vocal. The solo is sleek. From a production standpoint, I think you had room to go with a solo instrumental and come back to that catchy chorus . . . but there’s something to be said to keeping is short and sweet. Well done!

Kindest regards,

Deej

What a great song for Kid's Church, and I really like the album title, Sunday Songs For Every Day. Man, I can hear the whole crowd singing along with this one, and a great way to get such an important message to everyone. When we learn to forgive others, we get better at forgiving ourselves, which is rather important. So well done, Marty. Keep up the good word.
