Life Wins

This is yet another song that I got in my dream and definitely not the last one smile The dream started as a musical, located in a trailer park and a man singing happily the "Life wins" chorus part. Then it turned into a synth pop song which I was playing with a band. Then for some reason, I was kicked out of the band. After that I hired Nile Rodgers to produce the song. So after I woke up, I decided to finish it, although it took me 16 months to get to this point. At that time I had watched Nile Rodgers documentary, from it I used the idea to start with the chorus. But I didn't ask him to produce my song, maybe I will if this turns out to be a hit laugh ...

Unfortunately I didn't find any Nile Rodgers RTs, where are they? There should be some laugh Well, I used Zane instead, that was the closest playing style I could find.

It took me quite a long time to figure out what Life Wins could mean, and at some point I got a profound thought how real life is like the Game of Life computer game, continuously growing and eating space on its way, but on the other hand, a persistent fighter, surviving even in the most difficult conditions.

Lyrics:

Life wins, life wins
life wins over misery
you will see eventually.
Life wins, life wins
life wins over agony
you will see eventually.

when your boots of dreams are stuck in the mud
when the path of fate is signed with your blood
watch a flower breaching soil in a pit
reaching out for the Sun with its grit.

Life wins...

when your skin of solace yearns for its fill
when the hails of hurt seem destined to kill
watch the penguins shaking through arctic chill
their march of months to the sea for the krill.

Life wins...

Life is cruel
we get tramped and eaten
yet life's persistent
it yields, gets up again
always taking a chance
finding cracks in a
shatterproof substance.

Life wins...

Janne,
A very singable funky chorus anchors your more complex images in the verses; I liked that chilly penguins picture!
The backing, including synth vocal harmonies ( better and poppier sounding than Helicon harmonies for this style), sounds good.
I enjoyed the idiosyncrasy matched to a very positive and catchy song.

Terrific, hummable song. Great intro. I love the support the harmonies lend your lead vocal. And who'd ever think krill would end up in a song? Guitar solo was the icing. Very fun tune that I enjoyed listening to several times.

Janne, super song. Love the groove! Your vocal was really good. The mix is excellent.

To nitpick I though the synthesized harmonies sounded just that, synthesized. If they were a little lower in volume and maybe a touch of reverb and/or delay it would help. BUT this is only my opinion and others may not agree.

Regardless this is an excellent song!

Boy did this sound good on the monitors. Speakers were bouncing on my desk. Very cool song. Super vocal Janne and backtrack. Well done

Thanks Robert for your nice comment smile Those chilly penguins are really one of the best examples of animals surviving in the hardest conditions on Earth, so I'm glad you liked that picture. Also good to hear that you found the song very positive although there are so many unpleasant things in life.

Thanks TuneMonger for your kind words smile Hummable - hmmm maybe that's why it was easy to remember when I woke up in the morning smile Glad you liked the intro, I tried to create something catchy and easily recognizable leading shortly to the chorus.

Janne,

A good lively Pop sound. The opening grabs you right away. Had me dancing in my chair!

Very catchy - as a Pop song should be. The verses are quite catchy, too - nice!

A really nice production. And very well mixed. I like your vocals on this. Excellent drums. Nice ending guitar...

I enjoyed this. I wish I could dream music like that!

Janice said, a la Steve Martin, that your song gave her happy feet!

The vocaloid backing sounds good to us...that synthetic feel is what
we frequently hear in current pop music.

We also like the ever so slight hint of reggae in the song.

Good dream, good write and good vocals.

Nice mix also!

Enjoyed it...

Thanks Mario, I appreciate your positive feedback smile I'm glad you liked my vocal. You are right, I didn't work much on the harmonies, I could have added some vibrato, but that doesn't work very well when there are several voices singing together. I used Izotope's Vocal Doubler on that track, maybe that amplified the synthesized effect. But I'd rather use real singers to do the job, maybe Nile Rodgers brings his Chic girls wink

Thanks Janice and Bud for your positive words smile Happy feet describes my dream very well, the dream started with a man dancing. I guess the reggae feeling came from the backbeat on the loop I used, interesting observation.

Interesting and creative.

All the RT's work well together and that mix is tight! It has that professional sheen or grit to it that is so appealing.

Thanks for your kind and positive feedback smile Nowadays I don't do much tweaking with effects, although in this one I used Neutron 3 for bass and drums to give them some spark.

Hi Janne,

A cool song! Nice bass in a funky song.
And you sang it with conviction! The lyrics give spirit to live your life how hard it can be.
It is always a pleasure hearing your songs. They have something familiair now, because of your way of singing, but still are also very creative when it comes to the angle you choose.

Nicely done Janne!

Super creative and catchy. Love the various textures and overall musicality.
One of your best vocals and I liked the backing synth vocalists.

Really nice in all aspects.

Starts off like a funky cover of Go Ask Alice but that changes when the vocals begin.
I reckon the vocaloid harmonies could be pulled down a little at the beginning so your main vocal holds court OR pull your main vocal from the choruses and let those treated vocaloids float... there are some very slight variations in pronunciation between you & them.
Lovely message.

Thanks Ray, I appreciate your kind comment smile Pronunciation differences are inevitable when it comes to my mouth, but there can be also variation between vocaloids (Brit & american accent).

Love the funky opening. When the vocals started ("life wins") it wasn't what I expected, but it fit into your song quite well. Catchy pop, Mr. Popfinger.

Janne,

Nice groove to this . . . an ear worm feel to this. Very imaginative song and production that works its way in the more the song plays. Like the high harmony you have going on, really resonates. Is that high harmony a live singer or auto-generated? If the latter, it sounds like the former. If the former, nice job by your vocalist. Yeah, the more I listen to this the more I’m digging it. Great solo—perfect ending!

All my best,

Deej

Thanks Deej for your heart-warming words smile Glad you felt the ear worm, and that it is even growing on you smile Harmonies are computer generated singers, nice to hear that they are not distracting you.
