Hi...it's been some time since I've posted. I use BIAB to create stuff for small theatre groups and, for obvious reasons, there hasn't been a lot of action lately in that area. However, one of the set of actors I work with is planning to do some kind of celebration for Christmas online. Most of the pieces will be spoken but they asked for a poem/song in (sort of) the style of the great John Cooper Clarke. I'm not sure I quite caught his tone but for what it's worth, here it is...

Lockdown Christmas

Lockdown Christmas - Santa knows
He's truly got a task:
Delivering presents round the world,
Forced to wear a mask.

Chorus:
'Cos it's a Lockdown Christmas,
Lockdown Christmas
A Lockdown Christmas!

Disinfectant wipes for every
Chimney he climbs down;
Pulling on and pulling off
His rubber gloves and gown.

But better safe than sorry,
Says old Santa, so his sleigh
Is all wrapped up in ppa
As he goes on his way.

It's slowing down the job so much
I heard the reindeer say,
Some kids won't get their presents
'Till after New year's Day.

Poor Rudolph has been left at home,
In case his big red nose
Is a sign that he's caught Covid.
- Oh did anyone suppose

That Christmas 2020
Would be such a dreary scene?
Roll on 2021
- And roll on a vaccine!

First Christmas song I've heard on the forum, and a fun one at that! Really liked the switch between speaking and singing--very effective. Rhymes very clever. I liked the choice of style and band elements. Great use of BIAB!

Hello Phil,

A sad and funny story in a nice melodic coat.

"Poor Rudolph has been left at home,
In case his big red nose
Is a sign that he's caught Covid"

You did well on this song. A nice melody and bright vocals. The lyrics remended me of our own problems, here in the Netherlands; on the 5th of december we celebrate the birthday of Santa Claus. i think he is the oldest person of the universe (about 321 years or something like that). He rides a whirte horse and his helpers put presents in children shoes, but only if they put a carrot in it first.
Because of the Covid measures it can't be celebrated now, just like your Christmas Claus. By the way, some of us also celebrate that, so a lot of presents come in our houses that month! Maybe we can celebrate both in april next year?

I hope to hear more from you on the forum!
Stay safe,
Hans

Hi Phil,

super-cool ! Very funny and creative. Clever write and most effectively put together. Really big fun! The sound of that solo guitar may not be very holy-nightish though grin

Take care,

Stefan

Phil,

A very clever write! And nice use of BIAB to support it.

A little Punkish. A little Hamilton-ish. Hard to beat that combination.

Very well done. Nicely mixed.

Cool!
I have to say, yet another one that's got that 60's brit invasion sound.
In fact, I can almost hear a BEATLES vibe on this.

Very good!

PS
Listened to "66 Digging by Seamus Heaney"
Very compelling read.

Cool and creative - a great combo in our book.

"Disinfectant wipes for every
Chimney he climbs down;
Pulling on and pulling off
His rubber gloves and gown."

Now that is funny. A spot of humor here and there is
what this situation needs in as much as possible.

Thanks for the well done diversion!
