Streets are for walking not sleeping
for the grace of god this could be me
Living off handouts, in alleyway hangouts
This ain't how it should be
V
Streets are for talking to your neighbour
Not for running with a knife.
What the hell's going on? They're our
daughters and sons.
Where is pride in this life?
Ch.
Streets. Streets. Streets
are for walking down
Streets. Streets. Streets
take your girl to town
Streets. Streets. Streets
or just hang around
Streets. Streets. Streets.

Streets are for living not for dying
Heroes are heroes for all time.
Still wearing medals he used to take pride in
This ain't no place for a lion

There's a doorway with a light
Some comfort on a cold night
Under the bridge a small fire burns
Where they take their turn

Excellent tune and so true! The backing tracks were spot on. Your mix was great as were your vocals, but the lyrics took it over the top for me, they were fantastic.
An excellent song.
Vic,
Very well done tune. I like your vocal on this . . . a bit of a changeup staying in the upper part of your register, or so it sounds to me. Regardless, it really fits with dire straits sounds you have going on, with a Knopfler feel to it. Like that chorus—the “streets” repetition gives it nice structure and good touch on the harmonies there.
Lyrically, really nice write . . . though one curiosity for me: the second line it seems the singer is not living on the streets but observing (“but for the grace of god this could be me”). In the bridge, you say “under the bridge . . . where WE take our turn”. I wasn't quite sure if there was something I'm misunderstood there. Of no consequence really, just curious.
Great sound on this—your usual excellent production!! Nice listen, this one!
All my best,
Deej
Such a lovely, yet sad, song. I love the melody. Your accent (as I hear it) really adds depth to the deep lyrics. The music was right on time. The band shined on this one.
Nice song but that very bright, very forward guitar seems wrong in the verses.
Probably just too loud n bright and sitting too close to the vocal.
Especially liked the structure of your chorus, both musically and lyrically. Enjoyed the style and your use of held chords. Great work all the way around!
Hi Vic,
This melody has indeed that recognisable 'Dire Straits' sound in it. Well done!
You made a good song with a good band, although it has a worrying subject.
I was only asking myself if this nice melody and the subject really match?
Probably I would have used a more a subdued melody with these lyrics.
But a contrast can work out nice too.
Kind regards,
Hans
Hi Mario.
Thanks for that comment.
Glad it worked for you.
Vic
Good call Deej.
Sometimes I don't see the wood for the trees.
Changing that line to "where THEY take THEIR turn".
Thanks,
Vic
Thanks JPT.
Good to know it sounds right to you.
Vic
Touching lyrics handling many downside aspects of streets. Maybe the tempo is bit too upbeat for the message, but I like the Mark Knopfler feel of the band and the vocals.
Janne
Hi Ray.
I assume you mean the electric rhythm guitar. Maybe I'll tone it down a tad.
Thanks for looking.
Vic
Thanks Tano Music
That's nice to hear.
Vic
Sadly conveying one of our over looked crisis.
Apathy kills!
Well written and delivered.

Hi Vicarn,
Kind of a Springsteen/Tom Petty vibe from this song.
Nice guitar work and some really cool vocals/harmonies...
Thanks for posting. Cool song...
Thanks Hans.
Glad you liked it.
To be honest, I didn't think the melody was that strong though. Only three notes in line one and four in line two.
Thanks for taking the time.
Vic
Thanks for the comment Janne.
Originally it was a little faster in tempo. I didn't want it to get like a dirge.
The message is to get away from these situations not to wallow in them.
Vic
Hi Cap'n.
Thank you. Quite right.
Vic
Thanks Bawb.
Those two will do for me.
Vic
Lots of truths in those lyrics, an honesty I love. Like the Mark Knopler vibe. Nice!!
Vic,
The chorus on this shines, has a good feel.
Melodically, the verse instantly brings one into the song. Pair that with the opening lines "Streets are for walking not sleeping/for the grace of god this could be me" and you have captured the listener's ears. Good work.
Thanks Belladonna.
I suppose you already know Mark Knopfler's "Belladonna Belle"?
Vic
Sorry Floyd.
I missed your comment and Ezekiel's on this.
A belated "thankyou".
Vic
As I said to Floyd.
For some reason I missed the comments from you both.
I thank you.
Vic
Sounds really really Vic.
Very well produced! Love the Dire Straits sound.
Thanks for the appreciation David.
I gave up trying not to sound like me. :-)
Vic
Well produced, performed and very poignant.
A most sad reality.
J&B
Great job. I like the lyrics and the music fits like a glove.
Poignant topic as we are seeing an increase in the number of people who are living on the streets due to things beyond their control.
Good song
Hi J&B
Thank you for that.
Vic
Thanks Guitarhacker.
Unfortunately yes. It's a weird old world when some have too much and others nothing.
Vic
Hi Vircan,
You always put very beautiful compositions on this platform. Tinted with sad realities in the society in which we live. And your voice perfectly transcribes the content of your lyrics. Well done.
Kindly regard

Vic,
Excellent tune. Good arrangement and chorus hook. Easy listen. If it was up to me, I would do this slightly slower.
Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
Hi Derochette
Thank you for those kind words.
Vic
Thanks for the listen, Misha.
Yes, a tad slower would work.
Vic
Very cool song Vic!! Vocals seem a bit boomy, but very passionately sung!! I think the Dire tracks work so well in this song......perfect vibe!! Great job!! Take care. Greg
Thanks Greg. I'll have another look at the vocal eq and reverb.
Vic
Well written and well said, Vic. You picked the prefect band, and arranged them so well. Nice tight feel with a strong vocal and a good message.
Thank you Marty.
Good to hear.
Vic
Vic,
This is great. Love the song and the intimate feel of the vocal & mix.
Bob
Thanks Bob.
That's good to know.
Vic
Had a Springsteen feel for me, especially the chorus. Great work!
Thanks Tunemonger.
Bruce is o.k by me.
