I Still Do - RePost

I originally posted this almost 4 years ago. I've not had much time to create a lot of new music, so I hope this one sounds okay and everyone is okay with me reposting an older song. Any and all comments appreciated.

My time here has been limited but trying to do a little catching up as I can.

I Still Do
© 2017 Alan D. David, BMI

(v1)
The sky gets gloomy, as the clouds roll in
That’s when I know, you’re back in town in again
The thunder rattles, and the leaves begin to shake
The wind starts swirling, and frost begins to form
Then lightning crackles, you’re the perfect storm
The ground starts trembling, just like an earthquake

CHORUS
And when you left, I thought that was goodbye
But now I know, I told myself a lie
You made me hurt, and you treated me like dirt
Oh I wish I didn’t love you
But baby I still do

(v2)
Don’t know the reason, I can’t explain
Why I still love you, when you caused me all that pain
God only knows, why I wish you’d never gone
I hear my heart, then I listen to my head
They say forget you, find another love instead
But I just can’t find a way, a way for moving on

INSTRUMENTAL VERSE

CHORUS
And when you left, I thought that was goodbye
But now I know, I told myself a lie
You made me hurt, and you treated me like dirt
Oh I wish I didn’t love you
But baby I still do

TAG
Baby I still do

Four years?

Heck, four weeks is more than enough time to pass for me to forget that I'd ever heard a given song. wink

Nice song, glad to hear it (again?). smile

Never heard the original but, this is a great song.
I like the writing on this and the catchy hook.
Band sounds good vocal has a unique cutting quality that makes it sit nicely in the mix.

Well done!

I see I left a review for this song over on SC three years ago wink

I don't remember it though, and well worth another listen.

Good song, Alan, enjoyed!

Hope you guys are settling in to your new house ok.

Alan,

A good song with a good, basic get-the-song-across backing.

Always nice to hear a pedal steel solo.

A good mix. Enjoyed the listen.

Hope y'all are doing well.

Hello Floyd ...

I kinda used the KISS approach to this one ... nothing overly-complicated. Glad you enjoyed it once again. I appreciate the nice words!

Best to you & yours. Be safe...

It's new to me. Sounds good. Reminds me of a Dylan formatted song. Cool. Nice use of the band too.

Hi Alan,

I don't mind if you remake older songs, as they are good it's good!
And your song has a nice melody, tempo, band, vocals and lyrics. I enjoyed listening!
I had to smile on the last lines of the chorus. Nicely said, but is also gives mixed feelings...

While typing my lines your song still plays in my head.
That is the feeling songs must give!

Send my greetings to Di,
Hans

Hi Alan,

I'm glad you re-posted this one. I haven't heard many songs of yours with you as a cocalist, and I remember that each time you posted one you mentioned that you were not happy with your vocals.

Hearing this one I think that you should consider to come up with a non-instrumental far more often - I definitely like your singing style. In it's fragileness it sounds so ... ah .. true and honest, no frills, just transporting the emotion of these (very well written!) lyrics perfectly.

When I listened to it, Maha incidentally crossed the room, suopped and listened, too, without saying a word. Then she said, 'Look here, goosebumps...'

Musically, I think, this song is somehow perfect - everything's in the pocket, that PSG solo is grand. radio stuff !

Really, really good !

All the best to Di and you,

Stefan

Hello Hans ...

I appreciate all those nice things you said about my song. And yes, it's a good sign when the melody stays in one's head for a while after listening. That put a smile on my face!

I hope to be able to spend more time here soon. My wife has been very sick and, as you know, we just moved into our new house. So, my time is pretty much taken up with all that. But, will try to keep an eye for your songs. They're always really good!

Best to you. Be safe ...

Hi Stefan ...

You are always so kind with your comments about my music. I sincerely appreciate that!

Although I am rarely fond of my vocals, I think this one turned out pretty good. And I agree with you about the pedal steel ... it was a perfect fit for the song. Paul Franklin was the pedal steel guitar player. I've met him several times in Nashville ... a really nice guy and excellent musician.

Di and I think of you and Maha almost everyday. We hope she continues to get better. Please give her a big hug for us. You and she are very special friends to us. We wish you both the very best. Please be safe, my friends ...

This is fantastic. And what makes it, in no small part, is the vocal delivery. A unique way of singing and of delivering the song which draws the listener in and somehow hypnotises him or her! Well done - a wonderful achievement. Nice final chord, too! :-)

I appreciate all those kind words very much! I'm glad the vocal came across as it did to you. Vocals are not my strongest suite! Glad you enjoyed the song. Thanks for letting me know! Wishing you the very best...
