Hello forum friends. Been listening to some killer stuff!! I really appreciate all the kind comments about my last post. I always read them but I don't get around often enough (was tutoring my daughter for chemistry class) and didn't want to keep pulling the post off page 3.....things move fast around here these days.
I always loved the R and B ballads of the 80's (Anita Baker, James Ingram, Luther Vandross). Always wanted to write one but couldn't sequence tracks to sound right......enter BIAB. Love some of the R and B tracks we have available! Next problem: Can not sing that kind of song. Enter Earl C. Webb. I told Earl I wanted a James Ingram kind of vibe, and damn if he can't do that extremely well......not sure anyone but James himself could do it better. Anyway, thanks for listening, and I'd love to hear what you think, even if it take a day or two to get to read the comments. Take care all. Greg

Beautiful
The sun Is coming up
And the reflection off the water are so beautiful That I feel as though I must be dreaming still Can all of this be real?
Could I pinch myself and chase it all away?
you are lyin’ there asleep
And I don’t think you have ever looked more beautiful With the sunlight playin softly in your hair
Dreaming without care
And I’m feeling so much promise in the day

Love is new
It’s just begun
But something tells me you’re the one
THis time, I think my time is finally here
It feels just like a dream so far
I finally caught my shooting star
And all at once the skies are bright and clear And all is beautiful

Life has ups and downs
Sometimes there’s a moment that’s so beautiful That you wish that you could catch it in a jar Your own true lucky star
But life goes on and moments slip away
Still we are here right now
And I’ll embrace this moment true and beautiful And I’ll lock the memory deep inside my heart In times when we’re apart
I’ll cherish it to get me through the day

Love is new.....

Where's the song? I don't see it listed here.
Thanks Henry! Always nice to link the song, huh? Take care. Greg
WOW !! Classy, well crafted, and the Lead Vocalist definitely delivered. I've always wanted that kind of voice but I was born in the 1st tenor falsetto range :-) I think this is definitely something you should put out for distribution (if you haven't already done so). Stiff competition in that space but this one can stand on it's own. Cheers Greg
Lovely song. Great production. The lyrics are so well done. "...caught my shooting star...catch it in a jar...you own lucky star..." - superb writing. I loved the vocals.

Where does everyone find singers? I look on that fivvr but they are so expensive and not one has gotten back to me anyway.

Bravo! Nice R&B band too.
Earl does a stellar job on this.

All the parts are there, and they fit together really well. I'm no expert, but it sounds like you nailed the sound and wrote what could be a classic R&B song.
Howdy Greg....

Cool song, smooth mix, emotive vocal, great R&B vibe.
I echo all other favorable comments.

Very well done....keep up the good work.
Greg,

BEAUTIFUL pretty much says it all!

A beautiful write. True to the genre. Impressive.

A beautiful production (and mix). Nice use of the sax!!

Earl does a great job on this.

A real treat to hear. SO good.

BEAUTIFUL.

Greg,

This is really outstanding from every aspect...

Composition, production and the vocal by Earl are pro all the way.

You nailed the vibe you were going for - Excellent!

Bob
Hi Greg wow most excellent love the vocal so good sax is spot on lyrics are outstanding oh did I say I like it oh yeah thanks for sharing your talent Eric
Beautiful song, amazing vocals.
Thanks for sharing this one Greg.
Cheers,
Mike
Greg,
You put a lot of heart in your tunes and Earl only made it better. Composition, lyrics, vocals, mix very good all the way. Not many root R&B / Soul offerings on the forum, a very nice addition. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.
The name of the song says it all Greg. Awesome vocal. Lovely lyric and background. I do miss your vocals tho. Well done..
Wow, that voice. A bit between James Ingram and Michael McDonald and if that is not a sweet spot, I don't know what is. Song is well crafted. The changes are classy and romantic. Time to break out the bubbly. Top notch stuff, (unlike the bubbly).
Greg,

I listened this the other night but didn’t have a chance to listen to it then . . . which is a good thing cause it means I get to listen to it a few more times tonight. The write is brilliant. The vocalist just nails the song. The melody/chords on that opening line of the chorus is so engaging (actually, it is throughout the song, but that bit just sings to me). The production is so sweet—love that sax solo. Simply a five star song—outstanding.

My very humble regards,

Deej
Hi Greg,

This is my first critique post on this forum.

Song has a very nice chord structure.

Vocals are excellent.

Sax Break - very tasty.

Mix is also very good - I like the way you drop the drums and bass out after the Sax break and then bring them back. I also use that a lot in my songs. Vocals are upfront but I think that works well with this song and the classy vocal performance.

Well done - I look forward to hearing more of your songs.

Best Regards
Nigel Spiers

It sounds like a soul ballad. The band is very smooth 70s, between the boogie tracks, slow dancer.
Michael Macdonald ish but not a bland fakeout like him.
Cool.

Thanks so much Henry! I really like your stuff! Seems like we share a taste for the R and B ballads! Take care. Greg

Thanks David! Yeah, Earl is really gifted for this genre! Take care. Greg
Well, I started to get disappointed when I read that you were handing over the vocals to someone else, but this guy is great!!! And so is the song! Pro stuff, deserves to be heard by many.
Nice vocal that reminds us of Michael McDonald and an excellent write and sax solo!

J&B

PS BTW, it would be cool to know what BiaB tracks you used.
Ah :-) This is vintage Greg Johnson. Yes, the vocal is stunning, etc. ... but your writing is spectacular, as always. That's what I usually focus on when I critique a song ... yes, great vocals, etc., once more, but what writing. It's like I could finally put the troubles of the day aside and breathe. Bravo.
You hit the mark of an 80s R&B ballad, especially that electric piano---can't beat that sound. This is one of the tunes I would have played on the air back in my radio DJ days in the 80s. Brilliant composition.
Greg,

Very beautiful R and B ballad which has a solid 80's feel.
Earl's vocals and harmonies are great.
Rhodes piano is very nice.
The chord progression is wonderful. (Maybe closer to your usual songs?)
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Best regards.

Beautiful composition of atmosphere. You share with us your well-written lyrics. It's very nice. And the sax has its place.

WOW! You and Earl nailed the R&B genre. I'm late to the party and everything I wanted to say already has been said so all I can add is that this is air play ready! Really it is that good IMHO!
Greg,
A really good write- hits the genre mark in a way rarely heard here and the production is skillful with nice touches ( like the drum drop mid song).
I like the vocalist- technically near perfect and brings great feeling to your song... which I would also like to hear you sing!

Robert
Nicely, smoothly sung and well arranged. Great touches with the sax.

Vic
That was nice!
You captured that genre perfectly.

Band sounds good and vocals shine.
