Peacemaker

his captain stands calling battle plans
to soldiers on the floor
through walls he listens he`s got night vision
mum and dad never meant to go to war

searching pockets dusty closets
for the cause of strife
how could he know tiptoes below
holding his breath to make it right

one day you`re the king
centre of everything
the next you cling
trying to slow the spin

oh peacemaker
hold up to the light
the white flag in your eyes

he wont remember words of anger
only how her hands shook
strangers faces taking their places
this only happens in scary books

days are long for the boy too strong
to curl up again
it`d be nice to be born twice
once as you are once back in your game

one day you`re the king
centre of everything
the next you cling
trying to slow the spin

oh peacemaker
hold up to the light
the white flag in your eyes
oh peacemaker
hold up to the light

Wow, the lyrics really gave me chills. This is a really powerful song with a darker edge to it, which is something I very much appreciate in my personal music choices. Thanks for sharing it.

Lovely song Robert. Just loved the lyrics and such a nice tender vocal. Harmonies were excellent. Love the tin pipe real track. Well done

Nice song Robert!! Love the band you constructed.......tin whistle fits in perfectly!! Everything is really well done!! Take care. Greg

Great song. Super vocal with outstanding lyrics! Super backing tracks.

IMHO this is your best to date.

The vocal comes across fragile and delicate - excellent write and arrangement. The low whistle was a delight.

Really nice!

Yes, this is one of your best melodies IMHO, suits the excellent lyric content so well. Backup vocals were haunting, whistle was the cherry.

Hi Robert,

You've really pulled out all the stops in this production. The ambience of the style and the tin whistle really frame the lyrics incredibly well. I love what you've created and how you've presented it.

It's "thumbs up" from me!

All the best,
Noel

P.S. As an aside, I'm actually using the older sibling of RT 3771 in producing a song at the moment (i.e. I'm using #3770). It's brilliant sound.

Wow. Without question, for me: one of your best. Beautiful, sensitive song, as always ... with, this time, uncompromising lyrics in their message and emotion. Sincerest congratulations: you've done it yet again.

Robert,

Simply beautiful... Great all around. Love the song and your vocal.

The arrangement is perfect and the Tin Whistle is AWESOME!

Excellent! Nice melody and vocal, I especially like it when you bring in the harmony.

Love the use of the congas and the tin whistle.

Production wise I think you might have your de-esser set too aggressively, but no one else mentioned it so maybe just me.

Good one, Robert, enjoyed!

Haha, "less than perfect parents" is redundant, but you are being kind. What a cool song, Robert. Your melody and harmony is superb against that haunting tin whistle. Passionate lyrics and vocal.

I find it hard to keep from repeating myself melodically...and not telling where I found inspiration for this one!
Thank you for the positive comments.

A very lovely song. Nice melody you found for the vocal track. Good work.

I always enjoy your poetic and well written story songs Robert . Your voice suits this genre very well. I would compare your vocal with Donovan which is meant as a compliment. Nice thought provoking song.

Robert,

You have assembled another good Band to carry your always evocative lyrics.
Your words choices always amaze me. Always so original.

A nice vocal. Sensitive comes to mind...

Another good listen.

Robert,

What a great opening line . . . some wonderful internal rhymes as well to accentuate the poetic lyrics against that great backdrop of sound. Production all is spot on, though I might dial bac a bit on the Tin Whistle in spots—just a couple of dbs . . . but as always, see what others think . . . I may be off base there. But it’s a lovely addition to the song. Excellent right; your usual unique and engaging sound. So good!

All my best to you,

Deej

Thank you, Noel.
I think I also used that other tin whistle RT for the solo.

James,
I wrote an earlier song (The Bitter Taste Of Red) on the theme which was a bit more uncompromising I think.
So glad you liked this!

Dave,
Good ear, sir! I`ve been experiencing hearing loss which has made it more difficult to guage the de-essing... and I see this does indeed have the Nectar setting much higher than usual.
Thank you for your listen and helpful comments.

Robert,
This is more on a traditional side of 2 Bit Mystic music. Gentle musical approach to a difficult subject. Strong lyrics.
Solid music bed and mix. The only thing I would do differently is adding a bit of a reverb or chorus to whistle.
Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

The juxtaposition of the very sad lyric with the gentle sound of the band/melody/vocal is very effective.

The whistle was a nice touch and sits excellently in the mix ... actually everything sits well.

We're not prone to parsing out highly emotive songs like this --- the total package is very strong.

Well done indeed!

I don't know many who write about children and their inner world, but you have handled that subject very well in many of your songs. This is no exception, war in imagination and in reality, excellent write full of emotion. Your voice delivers that emotion strongly.
I like the tin whistle, one of the less used new RTs, but still one of the best, I think.
