Hi All,

Here's something called Light Years.

All the graves are in the backyard
And people move on there’s no doubt
Now I see the changing of the guard
Separate pathways a different route

No need to wave flags in the air
The stars won’t see them anyway
I sometimes just look up and stare
Still the same sky different day

And it's full speed into the light years
Shift through all the tired dreams
There’s a new moon on the mountain
If I can fly this old machine

Take a bus to New York City
And see your face in every mile
This old Trailways is a pity
It can run but it can’t fly

And it's full speed into the light years
Shift through all the tired dreams
There’s a new moon on the mountain
If I can fly this old machine

Your album would fit nicely on the Dylan/Lennon stack, Bob. What a good song. You came up with the perfect melody to present the lyrics, and sang them with feeling. Well said.

Love the arrangement! Very effective the way you bring in the electric and the choir.

Acoustic guitars sound great, are you doing additional processing on them? Everything sounds great actually, nice mix through the 'phones.

Really good, Bob smile

Bob,

"All the graves are in the backyard..."

A great opening line.
And it maintains that quality throughout.
An Excellent write!

An excellent Band and a terrific production/arrangement.
Maintains the "live band" feel/sound with just the right amount of build to keep it interesting/moving. And an excellent mix.

Your usual (so good) signature vocals!

So good!

Bob,
The world weariness in your vocal is a great fit with the lyrics, which paint an interesting picture... feels like we are being dragged into an uncertain future!
The simple instrumentation with everything sounding so clear is tasteful- the choir a good choice.
Btw-The line about Trailways made me think of highways which will soon be without Greyhound buses up here in Canada.
Fine songwriting.

Great sound, Bob. I like the way you've altered the meaning of 'light years' in the lyrics (which are very good).

Nice mix and build - the synth was especially nice. Poetic write, and as Robert said, world-weary vocals to match.

Well done - I enjoyed listening! laugh

"And it's full speed into the light years
Shift through all the tired dreams
There’s a new moon on the mountain
If I can fly this old machine"

Wonderful imagery ... no surprise there.

Your emotive vocal and the strummed acoustic gives this a strong singer/songwriter feel and the additional tracks move it more into the Americana groove. Whatever it's a good place to reside.

Well done - excellent production!

"Shift through all the tired dreams"

"And see your face in every mile"

Superb lyrics. Amazing achievement, from every angle. Yes, this WOULD sit so well with the Lennon/Dylan records. It's got the simplicity of Lennon and the lyricism, pathos (even, perhaps?) of Dylan. It's also got a certain seriousness about it which I like.

Bravo - this goes straight into my "songs I want to hear again" playlist! :-)

'rsdean'...

Your songs always have an impressionistic effect on me. It's partly because of what I perceive as a quality of yearning in your voice that's also somehow edgy and urgent. The personality in your songs is like someone who is always on the move, but observes every single thing going on around him, missing nothing. In this song, the tempo of the Real Tracks instruments -- the steady, reassuring rhythm of the guitar strumming and the measured, yet laid back drumming -- mark each word of your lyrics like footprints on the path of your metaphorical journey. The song is taking us somewhere in a rush of kaleidoscopic imagery that embraces the earth and the heavens. That's a pretty vast 'songscape' that ranges from the intimate to the infinite. On all points this is a mesmerizing listening experience that, as 'they' said during the 60's, really opens up your mind.

Something about this one, I can image Bruce Springsteen singing this.
With that in mind, I'd suggest a redo with some real passion in the voclas.

Well done!

Hi Bob,

Wow! I love the anthem-like feel of this. It takes me back to the late 1960s. You've captured that moment in time really well.

It's always a delight to listen to your work. I never know what I'm going to hear smile One thing I do know, though, is that I'll always enjoy it.

All the best,
Noel
