Songwriting challenge: Write a song about, "My dad buys secret gum for me but not for my siblings."

Bubble Gum

by James Conrad © 2021

Daddy buys secret gum for me
Secret gum for me but not my siblings
I can chew for hours quietly
I’m his favorite child and make his life worth living

Ch
Bubble gum, bubble gum
Daddy buys it from the store
Bubble gum, bubble gum
He buys it ‘cause he loves me more than you

Suzie wears Ray-Bans when we’re out
Those glasses cover up her cross-eyed stare
I used to get my mouth washed out with soap
Just for warning strangers of her evil witch-eye glare…now

ch

Jimmy wears headphones when we’re out
Those headphones cover up his (Dumbo / #%!$) ears
I used to get my mouth washed out with soap
Just for using swear words all these #%!$ years….now

ch

Bridge
See no evil, Susie’s ugly eyes could melt your soul
Hear no evil, Jimmy’s jumbo ears could sail a boat
Speak no evil, just be the quiet one
Thanks to Daddy’s secret gum

Bubble gum, bubble gum
Daddy buys it from the store
Bubble gum, bubble gum
He buys it ‘cause he loves me more

ch

Hello, 'jamestoffee'...

The Real Style you used, _NOHURRY.STY (No Hurry Americana Train Gtr Sol), really keeps the song moving, and that chuggin' musical motion is just right for delivering the humorously observed family scenes described in your lyrics. Also, you kept my interest with the things you did with the form and production of the song, such as your vocal harmonizations, the modulation that occurs at verse four, and the tempo reduction at the outro.

'Bubble Gum' is a fun listening experience!

Wow, that was fun and funny. I was smiling the whole listen. I especially love that second verse. Great sound in the chorus.

Hi James,

that's hilarious - you wouldn't believe how much I love stuff like that.

Very nicely instrumented, so well-sung.

Was chuckling so much I swallowd my gum...

Just great.

So much fun. Hilarious. Love that harmony. Wonderful vocal throughout. A really good write and mix. [and I almost always add, "Yeah, ditto what Stefan said."]
