To Be With You Several years ago, I wrote the first two lines of the chorus for my wife and had been stuck there. I finally was able to write a song around those lines. It's one of my few upbeat songs because my lyrics tend to get hokey when I write about happiness, so here is some hokey scheissen. I did borrow a little from Wordsworth in the second verse. An alternate title could be "Ode to My Missus."

Lyrics:
When the morning sun
Pries open your eyes
You light a smile
And you burst the sky
Has it been this long
We can’t be wrong
We’re right where we belong
Have I ever told you
How good it feels to be with you
If I’ve never told you
I don’t need words to say I love you
In the breath of night
Dancing with the daffodils
Blissful stolen kiss
My heart overfills
Has it been this long
We can’t be wrong
We’re right where we belong
Have I ever told you
How good it feels to be with you
If I’ve never told you
I don’t need words to say I love you
Nice upbeat song , lovely lyrics and vocals , its got a good driving sound to it !!.
Thanks
Hi Ezekiel,
This is a good rocker - great beat and well sung.
Congratulations.
Best Regards
Nigel
Aw, you say hokey but I think it's a really lovely and cute song! Everyone needs a dash of happiness, and I think you succeeded in making an upbeat song that can appeal to many. Thanks for sharing!
Wow!!!
This is great listening
I really enjoyed everything about this... your singing, the band, the mix, the arrangement... everything.
Incorporating some Wordsworth was a stroke of genius! I can sincerely say, that when I've struggled for words, looking at poets has never occurred to me. This is a valuable lesson and I will certainly be keeping it my mind from now on.
You got my applause!
All the best,
Noel
Scott,
This is really outstanding. Love the groove and your great vocal delivery.
Excellent mix production - loved it!

Ezekiel
I MEAN IT WHEN I SAY >>>HOLY MOLY.
TRIPLE WOW !!
this puppy has drive....ABSOLUTELY SUPERB.
fantastic "character vocals".
full of "HOOKS"...yes you understand a great song needs
the hooks.
only thing i might suggest mate is that lead guitar
be down the center of the stereo image ?
and i have no wish to upset you saying that.
i just hear it centered.
FANTASTIC SONG.
MY GOODNESSS ...THAT DRIVING RHYTHM GUITAR IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE MIX !!
lmao..as you can see the song has stoked me up.
brilliant songwriting. you must find a way to get this on major radio stations.
BEST.
om
ps...it would be great to try some chick back up singers
on the choruses...eg "have i ever told you etc..."
just in the background. this is a hit song imho.....
BLOWS ME AWAY !
Nicely upbeat and rocking song, worth the incubation, I hope your wife is happy for those romantic words
Catchy melody and rhythm, very good mix and enjoyed the vocals once again.
Janne
Most women I know, including Moi, don't mind a little hokeyness from her guy at all long as it's sincere. I wasn't expecting a rocker. Very nicely done.
Josie
Super rocker, outstanding vocal and lyrics!
A great tribute to your wife.
Loved it.
Scott,
Nice! VERY well written tune. Nice spread of energy throughout, no dips. Three listens, I am convinced.
Vocals and mix are very crisp. Listens well. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
P.S. I like your alternative title
Very cool rocker. Loved the driving guitar. Super vocal and lyric. Well done
This is a good Rock song and it is inspiring me to try creating more rock songs. The guitar usage is great too and really shows off the power of BIAB
.
Hokey? Not for a 42 year happily married couple like us!
Janice said she was sweetly hooked from the first verse.
"We’re right where we belong" Indeed.
And you delivered that lyric with a nice vocal, mix, and RT/RD choice.
And we most enjoyed the positivity of it all.
J&B
I didn't read no hokey things in the lyrics...
Ezekiel, it is very interesting to make a rocky lovesong. The lyrics are romantic, sweet and also a bit literary. Mixed with the strong guitar and rest of the 'wild' band gives it a attractive song. Maybe then hokey things slips in ones mind?
You did a very good job on this one!
I enjoyed it,
Hans
Hi Scott,
This is a really good song. It's kind of like you've melded Buddy Holly and the talking heads together.
Nice lyrics and super vocals. I enjoyed the listen...
This mix is outstanding! I have on my good head phones. Wow I love this sound. Nice panning of the guitars off to the left and right. Great ending.
So nice for the lady to hear too! Can't go wrong with this one.
Maybe if you have time Scott... a few secrets on how you treat the RT's in your DAW?

Justanoldmanmuso, I take it you like my song. :-) Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't have the modern sound to be on the radio.

Good from the start to that very cool ending, well done!
Great!
Do more of these.
I have to tell you that a mentor of mine at a major industry group told me something that you should never, ever forget Scott. Ever.
"When you sit down to write a love song, or a pop song, or a country song, any hit song for that matter, don't forget the cheese."
No truer words have ever been spoken my friend.
ezekiel.
just an added idea ....tween 1.05 and 1.11 before the lead gtr comes in is a nice space. goodness i just have to say
i hear a soaring female soprano series of "oohs".
rather like this in the time space...1234...
"oooh" "oooh" "oooh" "oooh"
and possibly more soaring femme vocs at the 3min mark for a few seconds in the background before the ending.
you wrote a fabulous tune with this one.

Marty, Thanks! I don't do anything special. I just render the tracks in Real Band and then insert them in Reaper. I use Ozone 9 for mastering.
Thanks for the tip Scott. That is pretty much the same that I do too.
Ezekiel:
You have such a clear grasp of who you are as an artist. Your tunes have such a great hooky sound and this one is no exception. Production is clear and totally resonates, and a terrific vocal. What’s not to like here? Catchy chorus! And, my, that solo—spot on!
Hope all is well in your world,
Deej
Nice, upbeat song done well on all fronts. Good work.
Scott, you've got a powerful and tight sound going on here! The vocals are excellent! The guitars are mixed really good! Good work! Thanks, Torrey
