Howdy everyone….

Well…I somehow came up with another idea to flesh out. I love ancient history and this topic has been floating around in my head for a bit.
Don't know if this one will stick to the forum wall of appeal but only one way to find out. smile
This is #5 for me this year....whew...."this song writing stuff isn't easy".

AWB_1.STY AWB_1 - 80s funk swing 16th rock
Swingin' 16ths rock groove based on dance feels from the 80s. 5 insts: organ, el. bass, ac. guitar, mt. guitar, drums. At 'b' add organ & mt. guitar 28/1. T =105 (M-Finger Electric Bass, M-Acoustic Guitar, M-Muted Electric Guit, M-Rock Organ, Drums=RockSwing16^)

“Atlantis”: Key: Am - 4 minutes - 105 bpm Lyrics/music/vocals & acoustic rhythm: Me - Lead guitars: Ken Lasaine....thanks Ken.

Verse 1: In the Age Of Bronze on the Agean sea near the isle of Crete. Minoan life was so sublime until its destiny. Fills the mind with ancient scenes and Thera’s busy streets. Sundry shops and merchants seeking shade in midday heat. Atlantis
Verse 2: Myth and written history will sometimes share the road. Truth or fiction’s fantasy? We all would like to know. Ships were sheltered from the storms and pirates of the sea. Sailors called it paradise but it wasn’t meant to be.
Chorus:
Atlantis…lost in glory’s faded centuries. Atlantis…tell your story, end this mystery.
Lead
Bridge
Verse 3 Earth is shaken, thunder roars and ash has blacked the sky. Before their eyes the waves will rise and day will turn to night. Nowhere safe and no escape, there was no place to hide. Forty thousand slipped away as the gods ignored their cries.

Chorus: Atlantis…lost in glory’s faded centuries. Atlantis…tell your story, end the mystery. Atlantis…show the way, a stone or scroll to read. Atlantis…help us to believe.

End: short vamp on Am

Thanks to anyone who gives it a spin and hope you found it worthy of your time.
Have a great day….
I had a hard time getting my head around this, to be honest. I think the funk guitar had a lot to do with that. Otherwise, a nice effort on an unusual topic. I'm reminded of Tales of Brave Ulysses by Cream, which had wah wah guitar in it, so maybe I just need to listen more. Big points for creativity!!
I liked that - interesting lyric, well sung and a very solid backing with a nice chord progression.

The guitar was excellent throughout.

Very enjoyable..

Funky and melodic!

I like it! laugh
Good day all....

Howdy Tunemonger.
I hear you.
When I first heard Ken's interpretation I wasn't expecting to hear the wah-wah's.
But, I liked it because, in the subject context, it adds an element of aural tension or unsettling doom.

Howdy Peter.
It was a subject that I found quite interesting to write about.
Lots of imagery to express.
Thank you very much for the kind words.

Howdy Dave.
Yeah..I heard that AWB funk style and thought it would fit the subject matter.
Of course, the Am key is a safe bet too.

Qualifier:
I fully realize my music, subject matter I choose to write about, genre propensity does not equate at all to the genres that are popular on this forum and it's many contributors.
We all have our preferences as to what we think has any song writing merit, and that's OK.
So...the fact that any of my peers listens/comments on my creative efforts works for me.
Part of the joy in what we do is just being able to interact with those of like mind....like on these forums.

Thanks again gents....a good day to all.

Wayne & Ken
Really nicely crafted tune. Cool story. Perfect vintage vibe. Good clean vocals. Guitars are glorious. Wah worked very well. Good one. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.
chulaivet1966,

What a cool sounding tune! Congrats on staying with it and getting those songs written and produced! That guitar sounds great all the way through! Nice vocals also! Keep on rocking! Torrey
Enjoyed the lyrics, "Myth and written history will sometimes share the road" - good point. I would also like hear the truth about Atlantis, have read some stories, although not Plato's.
Very cool funky groove. Nice chord progression. Really like those guitars, the wah-wah and the solo guitar sound great. Very good singing, style reminds me bit of early 80's new romantic bands, fits the mood.

Howdy everyone....figured it would be on page #3 by now

Hey Misha....
It was a great story that truly piqued my lyrical interest.
Lots' of 'imagery' from the imagination was at my disposal. smile

Hey Torrey....
Haven't yakked with you in a while.
Glad to hear you found to be a 'cool' tune.
It' took about a week to flesh out the lyrical story line to my satisfaction.
A fun write, though.

Howdy Jannesan....
I'm pleased you found the song acceptable....especially the lyrics which has always been a focus for me.
On Atlantis itself.
Plato, in re-iterating what some unidentified Egyptian priest told him is impossible to verify.
Especially, when they're talking 9200 BCE. smile
Does one believe it's off the SW coast of Spain....NW Africa/Morocco?...the Azores? smile
In my total ignorance....Santorini (Thera) is where I gravitate so that's what I wrote about.

I thank you all for taking the time to listen and comment favorably.
Nothing on my creative....for now.
(when Ken reads this he'll be gobsmacked elated by that admission)

Have a great weekend....

Cool tune guitar is excellent. I think I have mentioned this on your other tunes that your vocal reminds me of Randy Bachman. Well done
Howdy Scott....

Thank you sir for the listen and kind words.
Means a lot coming from our peers.
Yes....I think you have mentioned the RB sound before.

Have a great day....
A very enjoyable funky groove. Loved the way it hung out hard on the I chord until the choruses and bridge. Can't get much funkier in form. Imaginative topic and "cinematic" lines. Band, voice, and lead guitar solos/fills worked well together. Really, really nice.

The wah & lead make the song for me...they add a point of difference and aggression.
The drums n bass are well balanced - I say COOL.

G'dau mate....

Huh....what a coincidence....me too! smile
Totally surprised my ears when I heard the wahwah.
It adds tension or unsettling doom.
I did do a slight remix for the YT video I uploaded last night.

I thank you for taking the time to check it out and kind comments.
Hope all is well.
Atlantis --I love all that stuff, too, chulaivet1966. Cool hypnotic bass and I like the changes. Man, Ken's guitar is superb. A fun song, almost like we're trying to dig up those ancient ruins. Really well put together and I love that chorus.

Well howdy Bapu....

Yes....I'm an ancient history junkie.
The imagery one can imagine from this tale is limitless.
Ken's wah wah choice adds some unsettling tension vibe to the song.

Many thanks for giving it a spin and the very kind comments.
I finished up a YT video with lyrics too which (hopefully) would be a bit more interesting. smile
Spielberg and Lucas would be quite underwhelmed, I'm sure. smile

Have a great day B....

Yeah, cool video, too, chulaivet. Still, it's the song that makes it interesting. Love it!!
Top of the mornin' B....

I tend to write about many different subjects so I'm pleased some of my peers here found it worth a listen.
Kind of makes me want to pick another ancient subject to elaborate on. smile

Thanks again...
I like It, just a bit quirky but engaging.
A nice listen.

Top of the mornin'....

Yep...not a subject most would choose to write about.
So, I'll remain a song writing bottom feeder. smile

Many thanks for stopping by, giving a listen and the kind comments.

Have a good day everyone....
