Set Me Free Hi Folks,
This is a song I wrote many years ago when I was a regular gigging musician at clubs and on the road.
It features the fabulous Mike Arthur on lead guitar.
Vocals - Nigel Spiers
Piano - Nigel Spiers
Other backing instruments are from a PG Music, Band In A Box Midi style by Bob Notes Norton.
Music & Lyrics - Nigel Spiers.
Classic 12-bar blues, all encapsulated in a dynamic performance.
That's a terrific left hand Nigel.
I was interested in how you managed the bass and left hand piano in the mix.
It did lean a little but wasn't trouble in my brain.
Nice playing...the sort of song that keeps the dancing folk on their feet.
the vocal tone on "Don't wanna fight" was very JLL.
Hey Nigel....
Yep....a good I/IV/V rocker.
Good vocal performance and Mike is a damn fine guitar player.
Well done all around.
Nigel,
Well done all the way around.
Sweeeet piano!
Excellent guitar work from Mike.
Good vocals. They have a nice "warmth" to them
(folks often add too much high end trying to make a vocal lift above the band. Not the case here. The vocal sits really nicely in the mix - clear and warm)
A good mix. Drums sound good. I thought the bass could have use just a bit more bottom (a small thing).
Enjoyed.

Hi Eli/Ken,
Thanks for your comments.
Best Regards
Nigel
Loved it, piano was cool and Mike was cooking on guitar. Good vocal. Great work!
Rockabilly at its best, loved it.
I love rockabilly and you kicked this out of the park. Love the groove, vocal, backing tracks, and that outstanding guitarist.
Everything is perfect!
Loved it.
This song has a wonderfully classic sound to it! I know exactly what genre this was as soon as the song started playing. Great job and thanks for sharing.
Nigel, Sounds great, the mix and the performances. The vocal and the spoken comments both bring to mind B.B. King. That piano part is a workout, takes endurance.
That drum track really sounds great, they are brighter and pop more than has been my experience. Any processing tricks you might want to share?
Thanks for sharing.
Yeow!! That piano grabbed me and I wouldn't let go. You must have been a gas to play with, and a great guitar track by Mike Arthur. Did you play with your feet sometimes like The Killer? Great mix and the band sounds great.
You're really tickling those ivories!
Well written, well performed, well produced.
All around BIg Energy.
well done.
moto

Hi Nigel
A good 'ol 50's rocker , fun fun funtastic ! Had a smile from start to finish. You did good vocals on this as well as your usual quality production. I was imagining Mike doing a duck walk while soloing. Very enjoyable.
cheers
Gary.
Hi Ray,
Thanks for your comments.
I wish I had played that left hand but it was Bob Notes Norton - I played the right hand in the choruses where it needed a bit more energy.
JLL (Jerry Lee Lewis) - he is fully to blame for me taking up the piano. One night I heard him on the wireless (radio for some of you younger folk) playing "Great Balls of Fire" and I was totally hooked.
Best Regards
Nigel
Sounds like Jerry Lee Lewis with Chuck Berry on guitar.
Actually Mike is better than Chuck was, but he certainly nails Chuck's style with the double stops he was famous for.
Really good, Nigel, lots of fun!
Hi Chulaivet,

Hello Nigel,
Ooh, I enjoyed this 'classic' rock and roll song of yours.
I almost see how you are singing it. Is your sore throat healed by now?
Good band too.
It was really fun to listen. My feet are still twisting (a bit),
Hans
As Janice said, "Jerry Lee and the Big Bopper run into each other in the studio and..."
The piano hand mashup sounds great.
Smokin' guitar also.
Bud (who has a few years on Janice
) has been a rockabilly fan since childhood in the 50's
and this did not disappoint.
Enjoyed it.
