Hi All,
Here's something short, simple and folky - this is called
Ricochet.
There’s an echo in my room
Autumn on the mountain side
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet
The black shadow from your pen
Paper words fade to grey
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet
The radio plays just for me
Mind fixed on the songs refrain
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet
Blackbirds on a winter wire
Somehow keep the cold at bay
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet
There’s an echo in my room
Spring rain down the mountain side
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet
Settle down boy
She’s a ricochet

Loved the acoustic intro Bob. Another awesome vocal and lyric. Well done..
Hi Bob,
This is a good song and well played.
Vocals - well sung and I like the "close mic" effect however I would take a bit of treble and compression off to expose more of your natural voice.
Well done.
Best Regards
Nigel
Nice write,
Like the lyrics.
Well done!

Bob,
Great images, as always. You have a great "way with words".
I like it. It has "stuck with me". Always a good sign...
There is a good deal is sibliance to the vocal (not something I recall in any of your previous songs).
It stole a bit of my attention as the song progressed.

Scott,
Thanks - much appreciated.
Bob
Nigel,
Thanks. Good ear - agree with your observations.
Bob
Floyd,
Thank you. Yes, I was really up against the mic on this one. I also tried some new processing things, but not sure I like the result. I also think the vocal is a bit too hot.
Bob
Cool!!! Catchy!!! Love the format of the song......sticks in your head in a really good way! Really nice stuff Bob!!! Take care. Greg
Evocative lyrics and an intimate sounding vocal, Bob. Another good one.
Regards,
Leon
It reads well.
Really appropriate backing.
yes, the close mic'd vocals seem to be triggering a few things but it's still sounds lovely.
Great lyrics, song and vox. Classic sound of your own. Can't beat that.
Lovely song, Bob, with your signature sound that I love.
Only complaint, other than the sibilance which you already know about, is that it is too short
Ditto what Dave said. We want more. Again, not a bad thing to leave them wanting more. I won't beat you with the sibilance stick, Bob, although I probably just did. You know I'm a big fan of your vocals and this one is no exception. Still, the "simple and folky" worked really well, but the short didn't cut it. Great song!!
This is one cool song!
In addition to the fantastic lyric writing (love the concept), the melody and rhythm draw me in.
I enjoyed this.
Bob,
Nice smooth ballad with great set of lyrics. Ace performance and mix! Listens well. I am not sure if you remixed it or not from initial posting, vocals did not sound hot to me.
Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
Bob
Lovely evocative work.
Enjoyed it a lot.
Peter
Leon,
Much appreciated - thanks.
Bob
That was a most enjoyable two minutes.
The use of "ricochet" thematically is great.
The sparse arrangement is very effective, well chosen and well mixed.
Your, what we call Americana style, vocal is outstanding as is the harmony.
Perhaps counterintuitively depending on one's interpretation of the lyric Janice said the tune made her feel happy.
Excellent!

Bob, loved your approach to this song. Less was more in this one. Super vocal and lyrics with the perfect backing band.
Two thumbs up.
Hi Bob,
I just going to come out and tell you... What's not to like about your song. The music, way you chose to sing it is just right and an easy listen. It just puts one in the mindset that you're sitting with your Grandfather and he's imparting wisdom to his young buck grandson.
Thanks for posting
Another classic for the Bob Dean canon!
Really well done.
I have half a song written called "Bob Dean" about a guy who is writing songs so fast another famous Bob gets ticked off, and so does the ghost of Tom Petty.
So the other famous Bob sings his lament in his traditional wail--about Bob Dean, the writing machine.
Do I have permission???
Another enjoyable song with a nice sounding band that settles me down, simple and repeating like a ricochet makes it quite hypnotic. Nice image of "blackbirds on a winter wire somehow keep the cold at bay".
Janne
Nothing new to add that hasn't already been said.
Excellent combination of lyrics and music, as usual.
David,
Permission granted! LOL!
Appreciate the kind words.

That guitar is gourgeous. The mix sounds great.
Very intimate vocal, well performed, and placed in the mix.
