WHY DO YOU STILL LOVE ME A little change of pace for me here. I guess this is a Rock/Blues/Adult Contemporary sort of thing. This one took a lot of concentrated effort to get all the fingerpicking parts right. I only used the drums from the program and for better or worse played everything else. I just couldn't find the right realtracks to make it happen, so I had to go to work! Thanks for listening! It's always appreciated!
BIAB
Drums - Modern Pop Ballad 16th's
Me
Vocals
Guitars- Taylor 812ce Acoustic and Taylor T5 for the fingerpicked parts. Fender Telecaster for the leads all ran through a Headrush Gigboard
Electric Piano, Synths, Cello and Strings all played on a Yamaha keyboard.
Bass - A very old Peavey Foundation that still sounds good
WHY DO YOU STILL LOVE ME
Words and music by Torrey Bliss
Copyright 2021
My conscience torn
It torments me
For the way I've treated you
But still you're there
You forgive me
We're starting over
All things are new
You looked beyond my failures
And saw just what I need
Your life for mine
Oh Lord why do you still love me
I stand amazed
That you call me friend
Even when I feel that I'm no good
You proved your love for me hanging on that cross
As the blood flowed down your side
If I'd only been there
I'd see real love in your eyes
You looked beyond my failures
And saw just what I need
Your life for mine
Oh Lord why do you still love me
You shined your light
To the depths of my soul
Exposing things I thought I'd hid
Far away from you
You picked me up
And set me on my feet again
That's why I'll trust you Lord til the end
You looked beyond my failures
And saw just what I need
Your life for mine
Oh Lord why do you still love me
Another excellent construction/composition Torrey.
Wonderful bvox are the icing on a very tasty cake.
One word summary, "OUTSTANDING"!!!
Man, you are such a huge talent, Torrey! You have everything going on, great musician, singer, songwriter, arranger ... plus to top it all off, a super nice guy!
Excellent song, loved it.
Torrey,
This is Top-Of-Your-Game stuff! Absolutely the best...
Aside from the excellent vocal, musicianship, lyric and arrangement, this is one of the best mixes I have heard on the forum. Pro all the way.
Loved everything about it!

Hi Torrey.
Absolutely fantastic song.
So many little details. It's really fun to listen to.
Good thing BiaB didn't have any matching realtracks for you ;-)))
Just a pity that the guitar solo is so short ;-(
For me one of the best songs here in the forum.
Many greetings
Andi
Very captivating intro, verses are especially exciting both melodically and musically. Nice guitar arpeggios and the bass sounds very good. I enjoyed the chord progression which varies nicely between pop and fusion jazz.
Great soloing. The vocals express the torment and the amazement in the lyrics powerfully.

Hello Torrey,
As I told you before, your songs are very good, with strong choruses and lovely to listen to.
I have one 'but'; When your song started you builded up a very nice tension with the guitar.
So I expected 'an explosion' in your chorus. And it looked that way, but then you went down with your vocals.
That was a bit a pity for me, expecting that tsunami of sound.
I realized you could't do that in this song because of the message in your lyrics.
But it was you that gave me that expectation. You talked about a song in the Rock/Blues category.
Nevertheless it is a very nice song!
Hans
Torrey,
Excellent from every angle.
A good write. Killer tracks. The subtle guitar rhythm tracks are perfectly done.
Those drums sound Great!! How did you process them? plug-ins?
Gorgeous vocals and BGVs.
And a gorgeous mix. Sweet guitar fills and leads!
How did you record the Peavey bass??? And how did you process that? (I have the same bass, I think. I've never considered trying to use it, but you've opened my eyes to the possibility...)

Thanks Ray! Your comments mean a lot to me! T
Torrey, you are one very talented multi-instrumentalist! (I'm glad that you couldn't find any fitting RTs - you should play more often).
IMHO this is your best to date. Everything here is at a pro level.
Loved it.
What a stunning good song! Absolutely loved it!
Great work, Torrey!

Thank you Dave for the awesome comments! I appreciate it! T
Wow, I'm blown away that you played all the instruments except for the drums (good drummer by the way). The sound is so smooth and well mixed. Bravo. Nice song. Your vocals are smooth too. You remind me of Toto a little bit.
Good work.

Wow Torrey this one is a keeper. What a cool song. One of my favorites. Super vocal and harmonies. Mix was perfect. Guitar was awesome as well..
Modern sound. I've often echoed the sentiment of the song in my thoughts (I imagine many have), but you actually articulate it in a contemporary, modern, effective guise. I love it.
And your playing: top, top notch. Effort put it or not, to get to this stage: the end result sounds effortless and phenomenal - that's what matters, right?
A serious bravo for your achievement ... genuinely love it and appreciate it.

Thanks Andi for taking time to listen and comment! I always like to try and keep my tunes under 4 minutes because I feel people just don't have the patience or attention span to endure long songs! That obviously doesn't apply to everyone but probably most listeners. Just my preference though and I didn't feel extending the song for the solo was worth it. Thanks, I appreciate it! T
Torrey
Amazing. Stunning musicianship throughout. Great vocal and lovely work on the Backing vocals.
Superb guitar throughout (and all the instruments).
You've excelled yourself.

Love the riffs in your songs, this one's a good 'un, too. Great gestalt in your work makes for a truly pro finished product. Congrats again.

Those sophisticated chord progressions and harmonies remind me how much I have to learn about music -- so well constructed.
Great lyrics, production and everything else. Top-notch.
Hello, Torrey Bliss...
I'm not an instrumentalist, which pretty much makes me a 'slave', so-to-speak, to BIAB. That causes me to be very appreciative of actual musicians' performance skills, which are wonderously abundant in your song, 'Why Do You Still Love Me?'
The melody, harmonies, and subtext of your lyrics are quite memorable, as once again you wrap the passion of your faith in the language of romantic love.
The result (to my ears, at least), is a song with a 'message' that is equally accessible to listeners who's hearts are enamored with either object of devotion, or both simultaneously.
That's a pretty neat accomplishment for a musician to achieve with his audience, I'm sure, because if the heart is pure, both kinds of love can be spiritually regenerative, reassuring, and rewarding.
Talk about 'crossover' appeal! You got it going on in a BIG way in your song.

Thanks Hans!I contemplated doing a chorus with much more dynamic range in it but opted for the more reserved backing to not detract from the message in the song. I always appreciate your comments! T

Thanks Floyd! I had the drums on a stereo track in Studio One with no extra processing, just what was already there in BIAB. They were only enhanced by the eq and compression in the master stereo output for all the tracks. I think the binaural panning I have going on in the master chain helps bring them out a little more. I ran the Peavey Foundation dry with all knobs wide open into the interface and then it was ran through a bass preset in Guitar Rig 5 called "Precise Bottom". T
Excellent all-around production.
Your guitar work is a stand out. Wow!
Vocals are great and the harmonies are exquisite.
Nice work.
I went downstairs to do some domestic chores, and your melody was stuck in my head.
Torrey...I hope you know what a major fan I am of your work...though I think I should say of your inspiration and talents...thanks for not hiding them under a bushel...as usual I love the song in everyway possible...nice bright contemporary sound and mix...you always produce a great balanced package for us to listen to...great vocals, super musicianship and thematically most excellent...I always look forward to your next one and have not been disappointed in anyway yet...come on Torrey you can disappoint us at least once, the rest of us have done our parts you can do it! Probably not...Loved it!

Thanks Mario! I really like the convenience of just using the Realtracks and the slick sound they provide, but sometimes I'm not able to find the one that will do what I'm hearing in my head for a tune. I appreciate the comments! T
Torrey,
Love your songwriting—no exception here . . . compelling Christian Rock tune. Has a very 80’s retro sound—dunno why but Duran/Duran comes to mind in terms of it’s sound. Vocal is just killer; great backing vocals in that chorus. Really well put together tune in all aspects. Outstanding!
Best regards,
Deej

Ok...that was AWESOME! Trying to pick what I like best would be like trying to pick a favorite child...and you have a HUGE family here!
Have you ever considered joining some Pink Floyd fan sites/pages/groups and getting this music out there? I have a feeling they would LOVE it!!
Stunning job!
One weird question, was all you used from BIAB was the drums, or am I readying that wrong? Either way, WOW!
Oh, yeah, you got it, Torrey! Your talent has no bounds. Yes, the backing tracks are awesome --the perfect bed for such a good melody and excellent vocals. This would be one of my favorite album cuts from your greatest hits --a 3-disc endeavor. You always post the most professionally sounding productions.
Loved the song. You have a good grasp on vox doubles.
Well done
Torrey, there is no need to parse this out.
It is outstanding in the most epic manner.
The amount of talent to do all those vocal and instrumental
tracks is simply overwhelming.
We would think that this would be a tremendous song
in the P&W market.
No need to say more other than we most enjoyed it.

Thanks HearToLearn for listening and commenting! I really appreciate it! Yes, the only thing I used from BIAB was the drums. I just did my best to try and play everything else to replicate the sound I was hearing in my head but I'll admit it's easy to get lazy and not want to spend the time to record all of those tracks. Take care, T

Torrey,
Wonderful composition and playing. Vocals A+. I like the FX chain you used for voice. It feels, vocals have more "body" compared to other tunes I heard by you. Song has a good amount of modern feel to it, without going too crazy
Good one. Thank you for sharing.
Misha.
Wow, Torrey. Absolutely brilliant composition and multi-instrumental performance.
