Most probably, my last one before Christmas, if not before the New Year itself. I hope you enjoy - all comments welcome - thanks for listening :-)

MISSING YOU AT CHRISTMAS

The house is almost empty,
The children've gone to bed,
I should retire, myself,
But I'm awake, instead ...

There hangs some mistletoe
But it's just me and it,
The kiss I wished for, at Christmas,
Will have to wait a bit ...

Missing you at Christmas,
You're still so far away,
When I wished for a present,
I wished for you, this day ...

Missing you at Christmas,
If you are here, all is well ...
I sigh, and my heart trembles
Each time I hear the bell ...

It's Christmas morning now;
Friends, relatives, arrive,
We're full of Christmas cheer, it's true,
But you're nowhere in sight ...

The tree is up and proud
The star, atop, so blue,
I sigh and sip the coffee
That we left out for you ...

Missing you at Christmas,
You're still so far away,
When I wished for a present,
I wished for you, this day ...

Missing you at Christmas,
If you are here, all's well ...
I sigh, and my heart trembles
Each time I hear the bell ...

Another Christmas's gone,
Another prayer lost,
A postcard's come through the door
From the ones that love me the most,

They tell me you are happy, that
I should hope no more;
I sigh and see the mistletoe ...
A kiss, that's all I wished for ...

Missing you at Christmas,
You're still so far away,
When I wished for a present,
I wished for you, this day ...

Missing you at Christmas,
If you are here, all's well ...
I sigh, and my heart trembles
Each time I hear the bell ...

James,

A good lyric. Sad story line.

I thought that the dominant guitar (the Campfire one, I would guess) gives the wrong feel for the sentiment of the lyric. A sad, serious topic and a very "jaunty" guitar. A mismatch, in my opinion.

Merry Christmas.

You have superb hearing, Floyd, as always. On one hand, I personally thought that the "jauntiness" could symbolise the fake joy we often have to portray at Christmas, no matter what ... on the other hand, yes, the jauntiness could be toned down a bit. Still ... I like that triplet strumming a lot, so wouldn't like to remove that ... just a little more sombre in tone would do. Ah well ... for now, this is it, for better or worse - I'll see how, if at all, I can keep that strumming, but have the jauntiness pared down. If not, it'll have to stay "as is".

Merry Christmas to you and yours, too. Cheers.

Wow!
This is a tear jerker. frown

Beautiful write.

I get the upbeat guitar juxtaposed to the theme.
Worked for me.

Hi James ...

Yes, indeed, a very sad lyric. But, unfortunately, it's applicable too many times in real life. Truly, an excellent write.

The triplet guitar didn't bother me a lot. Perhaps bring it down just a bit in the mix, but not too much. Also bring the other guitars a little more forward in the mix would give a better blend without stepping on the vocal. Just a couple of thoughts that came to me - thinking out loud.

Regardless, it's an excellent song and I enjoyed my listen. Oh, before I forget, I really appreciate the key modulation around 2:14, I think it was. Key changes always bring new life into a song, keeping it fresh throughout.

Wishing you the very best. merry Christmas and much fortune in the New Year.

Thanks, Alan. Yes ... what you mention about the guitars seems to be the perfect solution to the problem Floyd mentioned. I'll deal with it! Thanks!

Thanks so much for listening and for taking the time to give your kind comments ... I wish you and yours a wonderful, healthy and peaceful Christmas and New Year. Please keep creating.
