Down At "The Maverick's Bar"

The words are original but the theme could be considered well-worn standard fare.

Hard Rock is definitely not my usual style so I was way out of my comfort zone here!

BIAB Style: HROCKLA

Tracks:
995:Bass, Electric, HardRockLA Ev120 (Reverb 15; Tone -2)
RealDrums+RockHardLA (Reverb 15; Tone -4)
999:Guitar, Electric Rhythm HardRockLAFuzzyA-B Ev 120 (Reverb 40; Tone 10)
996:Guitar, Electric Rhythm HardRockLACrispA-B Ev 120 (Reverb 40; Tone 10)

To which I added:
686:Organ, B3, BackgrounfPop Ev 120 (Reverb 22; Tone 0)
1169:Guitar, Electric, Soloist RockMeduimBrent Ev 120 (Reverb 75; Tone 15)

I tried various keys, starting with E, going as high as Ab before settling on Gb. Tempo began at 120 but, as the story developed, I wound it up to 140.

Down At “The Maverick’s Bar”

Spend all day working hard on the factory floor
Waiting for the whistle to blow at half-past four.
That foreman's giving me grief and I'm looking for some relief
But that won't happen till I clock off and I run out the door.

Friday night it's a totally different scene
When our band gets together,
we pretend that we're living the dream
Down at "The Maverick's Bar," I plug in my magic guitar
Crank up the amp and I let those awesome humbuckers scream

Joey's our drummer and he never misses a beat.
And Mike plays rhythm -- gets the crowd up on their feet
And even when he's off his face, Phil plays a mean P-bass
Sandy's on keys -- she's the real bees knees
and she sings so sweet

Friday night it's a totally different scene
When our band gets together, we pretend that we're living the dream
Down at "The Maverick's Bar," I plug in my magic guitar
Crank up the amp and I let those awesome humbuckers scream

Nicely done and a good engaging melody and vocal.

Enjoyed the song and soft rock meets hard rock production.

Hi,

Good rocker - well played and sung.

I would like to hear the solo guitar up a bit in volume especially on the first few bars - to match the vocal volume.

Well done.

Best Regards
Nigel

As Nigel said, the volume of (most of) the guitar solo could come up to the vocals volume. (The ending solo is better matched).

Standard fare, but well done.

"Bees knees"? Did people ever say that? wink

Fun song!

Hi Dave.

A view of the original wav file for the guitar solo shows fairly even volume levels throughout the track and I don't think its unusual for upper octave notes to sound louder than the lower ones. Perhaps we should put it to a vote wink

Really like it, Ghostgum. Cool lyrics, and I'd say you wear the well-worn in a strong way. When I listen with my ears instead of my eyes my vote would be to let those humbuckers scream. Good song, man. My brother's name is Phil, but in my mind that was me with you the P-bass.

I always liked songs about local waterin' holes... Cool song, well done.

Hi Ghostgum,

I was pleasantly surprised to hear this song from you.
Very well done, bright vocals in a catchy song!
I didn't hear strange things in the solo or between the solo and the vocals.
Just a very nice song and I like it!!

Here in the Antipodes, we use the expression "bees knees" quite often and we use it to describe something excellent. Apparently, it originally meant a non-existent thing, not unlike elbow-grease or tartan paint.

I didn't get "tartan paint", so I googled it, and found this:

Sounds pretty good Ghostgum! It's got kind of a 90's sound! I think your vocal was excellent! Nice arrangement! Thanks, Torrey
