This is a song about veganism. I lost the BIAB files, so I don't know what I used on this but it's all RealTracks. The singer is Jamie Jordan, front man for the metal band Skies Turn Black.

I made a video, it's just a crappy slideshow. It's pretty tame, I didn't show the worst kinds of animal abuse.

Lyrics:

It's just what we've done forever
Pull a lever
Crush a heifer
It's just what we do so why change now
But if you saw the harm
On every farm
The blood alarm
You might wish it weren't allowed
Shredded bodies wish we would have let them live
Not a moment was it ever really ours to give

No chickens, no cows, no sheep or no sows
No turkey, no fish, belong on your dish
Plant strong's the new way
Live long and love each day
Let life around you thrive
Planet Peace will soon arrive

It's just what we've done for years
Crank the gears
Split the steers
It's just what we do so why change now
But if you knew the pain
The horrid stain
Of human reign
You might wish it weren't allowed
Line production raises
Beings bred for pain
Money keeps it rolling
Driving all of life insane

Hi, Rob.

Good write, excellent production. Jamie did a great job on the vocals.

It's the first time I've heard of Veganuary.

Good voice,
I don't think the solo fits the band well.
At time some quite odd lines appear in the narrative but they do keep it fresh,
"You might wish it weren't allowed" is an example...blood n gore then the proposition of a perhaps.

Important message, interesting perspective.
I don't eat hamburgers but I do eat meat.
When teaching we used to take 11 & 12 years olds to a farm stay over a couple of days.
We'd ensure they met the cattle, Angus, see the life they lived and that night they'd have beef from the farm as part of their meal.
The way we treated the days and subject meant that they ate the meat knowing it had been alive and had to come to grips with that.
The net result was that all would eat the entire meal with no waste in respect for the death of the animal and a couple would become vegetarian after the camp.

Nice powerful rock song, perhaps the aggressive sound demonstrates the cruelty of human reign. I hope in the future meat can be made genetically in factories without bringing animals alive to suffer. Very good vocals.

Love this song, TM. Haven't had cows or pigs for 39 years now, but chickens and fish still found their way to my plate. I like the guitar solo, and think it fits well with the aggression of the song. Lyrics like these require aggression. Good and terrible video, too. You picked the right vocalist. Jamie carries the sentiment perfectly. Did you know that experiments suggest that lettuce and other vegetables scream when sliced? True. Great mix on this, too.

TuneMonger,

Man, this sounds great! Definitely a tune that will speak to a certain niche of society! I happen to agree with sentiment of the lyric content here for what it's worth! I appreciate your dedication to your tracks! Thanks, Torrey

Very well done!!! I try to forget that meat doesn't just come from the supermarket. Don't eat a ton of meat but I try to compartmentalize the issue in my head. This is a powerful and well performed statement song!!! Singer is also great! Very, very good work!! Take care and Happy New Year. Greg

T.M.
Probably the only "HARD" vegan lifestyle promoting tune I have heard up to this moment. Interesting musically and Jamie did ACE work on vocals! Excellent production and mix. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

P.S. I have reservations about total veganism, but all in favor in significantly reducing consumption of meat. It should not be a cult.

Hi Tunemonger.
I like the arrangement and much of the lyrics although some might think it's a little preachy in parts.
Maybe just keep to the facts like the blood and suffering and the suggestion: "Does it have to be this way?"
Maybe try to put the listener in touch with the feelings of animals. I still like it though.

Good one.

Thanks to everyone that commented on this tune, I always take every critique seriously and value each one. I was glad to see that there are apparently no technical issues on this one, at least nobody mentioned any. As far as the subject matter, there was no intention to open a can of worms here and I am glad that did not happen. Thanks to all for that!

No doubt many disagree but we get it ... no meat for us in 20 years.

We saw a documentary years ago on factoring farming and read the book Omnivore's Dilemma -- both of which helped set us on our journey.

Well done head pounding metal to drive the sentiment home!
