I wanted to write a simple little song quickly (to clear a minor case of writer's block). I guess I had the Russian invasion of Ukraine floating around in my mind and then it turned into an ode for those addicted to substances. In any event, I wrote:
Freedom Is Waiting The particulars are:
BIAB 2021
LoneBoy Acoustic style
Key D BPM 85
2483: Bass, Acoustic, Bowed HeldSimple Ev 085
2914: Guitar, Acoustic, Fingerpicking Folky 16ths Brent Ev 085
2195: Piano, ElectricVintage, Rhythm CoolJazzPopHeld Ev 085
The single track vocals were recorded through a SP1 mic, into Mixcraft 5, via the Cl1 interface.
Thank you for any listens and comments.
Freedom Is Waiting
Rip off the blinders
Break away chains
Your heart will know what is true
Tear down the brick wall
Discard the shame
Freedom is waiting for you
Don't every go back
To that dark place
Find somewhere well-lit and new
Walk in the fresh air
Sun warms your face
Freedom is waiting for you
Remember hard times soon go away
I will be with you, come what may
Remember love is the best we can share
I'll never leave you, I really care
Welcome tomorrow
Let today go
There's nothing left you can do
All is forgiven
This should know
Freedom is waiting for you
Welcome tomorrow
Let today go
There's nothing left you can do
All is forgiven
This should know
Freedom is waiting for you
Nice!
Good write, my favorite line:
"Don't ever go back
To that dark place
Find somewhere well-lit and new"
Love your vocal!
My new favorite from you I think, well done.
A well written and performed song... wise and meaningful lyrics sung with much feeling... well done.
Simple maybe, but oh so good, jtpjtpjtp. Yes, that sore spot on our planet hurts us all. What a good write here. Prefect choice of instruments and your vocal is perfect. The lyrics are so good, too. Well said, well sung.
A super song.
Great lyrics like
"Don't every go back
To that dark place
Find somewhere well-lit and new" took it over the top for me.
The less is more backing tracks were perfect for highlighting a super vocal.
Two thumbs up.
PS - we are losing way to many people do to drug addiction.
Nice one, Sean.
Good to see you getting into the new BIAB. Nice tracks.
COOL vocal.
The song has a lullaby quality to it, which is interesting considering your subject (either of them).
Enjoyed the listen.

Very nice...love the track, the vocal and the message...all together a really great package...it's interesting how songs change in ways as we write them or get out of the way and let them write themselves.
That is really good. Great message and delivered well.
Excellent song Sean. Loved your vocal and the rasp in your voice. Acoustic was perfect to frame the vocal. Well done.
Hi, Sean.
Good song - the arrangement fits it well, as does your vocal.
Thank you very much for your listens and comments.
Yes, I tried to capture a lullaby feel, ala' Paul McCartney and I used as few instruments as possible. The first version only had a guitar, but I added the bass and electric piano at the end.
Very nice. I used to have this saying, half borrowed from David Byrne, "remain in motion, remain in light". That's the feeling here.

I really like that intro! The lyrics are great! I like that you have the vocal clearly above the backtrack. The light accompaniment is just right for this! Really nice job!
Thanks, Torrey
Thank you for the listens and comments. I appreciate it very much.
Nice, lived in voice...needs a touch of de-essing though.
Direct, a little sad but ultimately optimistic & hopeful.
Well done.
Beautiful song.
Well sung.
It is a simple song, but that makes it so strong!
Well done.
Rob and Anne-Marie
Good choice for instrumentation. The simplicity puts the focus on the lyrics (a good set by the way) where it should be.
Hi Jptjptjpt,
A thoughtful song, brought with a lived voice, singing that freedom is waiting.
I had a mean thought: send this to Putin...
I'm sure your song must do something to him. It does to me too, although you cannot compare me with that evil man.
The melody is simple, but I believe simple songs are mostly the ones that can tough you. Well, at least this one did to me!

I (Bud) would settle for a minor case of writer's block!
"Walk in the fresh air
Sun warms your face
Freedom is waiting for you"
It is lovely, melancholy and yet hopeful.
The piano and guitar worked together nicely and well supported your emotive vocal.
Well done!

Hi jptjptjpt,
I love this soft atmosphere that you have created. The lyrics are well written and allow us to read between the lines to receive the message you want to send us. Well done. I appreciated.

Thank you so much everyone for the listens and comments. I appreciate it very much.
Hello jptjptjpt
Very nice song with great lyrics
You sang that very well
Your choice of instruments is really good
You bring a lot of feeling into the song
I like that especially
Thanks for sharing
Many greetings
Andi ;-)
jptjptjpt,
Lovely, melancholy and yet hopeful.
It reminds me of American folk songs from the 1960s.
The tone of the songs truly symbolizes the anti-war movement.
Great message!
Enjoyed my listen a lot.
Best regards.
