Spring is Here

Around here spring brings extreme weather changes. One day it will be 32F (0C) with blowing snow, ice, and wind chill temperature at 0F (-17.8C) while the next day it will be 70F (21C) with full sun! The following day could be cold again. That is a normal cycle around here. Finally spring fades into summer.

This song tries to emulate that. The soprano sax is spring and the guitar winter.

BiaB style = Pop Ballad 4 - EV. 8 Ballad
Tempo = 70 BPM

Piano - Keystone Classic Piano
Guitar - EZ Keys - Dream Machine - preset Mellow Mark K VII
String 1 - Kontakt - Kirt Hunter Virtuoso Strings
String 1 - String 1 copied - Kontakt - Solid State Strings
Both string parts slightly modified to better fit the song
Drums - Steven Slate SSD 5

I am playing the fretless bass, guitar, and via my wind controller the soprano sax. Band-in-a-Box is supplying the rest of the tracks.

FX - bass - Amplitube 5 - Waves Bass rider
Sax - delay
Guitar - Amplitube 5
All but the drums and bass - Raum Reverb

As always all comments are welcomed.

This is so cool... what a great idea for an Instrumental piece...
So nice... lovely.

HI Mario ..

what a super cool song! As I listen, what I taker from the variations is the drums are the common thread. In the softer pieces, they're the underlying current of more dramatic things to come, and when the more dramatic arrives, they embellish that tension, represented by the distortion guitar. The wind controller and piano are much like a soft, gentle breeze wafting over everything else.

That's my take. I could be way off, but that's how it comes across to my ears. Very nicely done! Take care ...

Hi MarioD,

you plunge us into a very sweet atmosphere at the start of spring. Very varied instrumentation that immerses us in your universe. Well done.

So... sleepy.. wink

Nice song!

The bits where the strings fade in and out don't work for me - instead of sounding natural to me, it sounds like someone in the control booth is turning the volume knob, and it calls a bit too much attention to itself.

But a very pleasant listen.

Mario. Great work as would be expected. Very relaxing. I particularly liked the Sax (wind controller).

Your song has encapsulated those feelings quite perfectly.

Wishing you warm, sunny, happy days ahead.

Mario,
Very cool tune with unexpected mood changes. Yep, sounds familiar. We had snow on the ground last week, with daffodils nearly opened. Excellent work on bass, guitar and your wind controller! Sax sounds very smooth.
Good mix too. No complains smile Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Hi Mario,

Yes, this also fits the weather here in the Netherlands. From a beautiful March to a cold and rainy April.
Beautiful music again!

Ah, no matter what the weather, Mario, you consistently create some of the most interesting music. I love the way you express life in your music. You create the soundtrack to our existence, and seem to specialize on the important things. That guitar is hardly as annoying as the lingering shades of Winter, but you manage to express some gratitude in its farewell.

Thanx Scott, Leon, Bob, and Marty for those extremely nice comments, I appreciate each and every one.

We don't have such extreme temperature cycles here in Finland, but I can imagine when I start my walk early morning 6am at -6C and end at 10C in the sunny afternoon, and in-between there could be strong wind or a flurry, difficult to dress accordingly.

Lovely chord progression, such a beautiful mood and the strings express it nicely.

The melody is gentle like warm spring breeze, excellent playing.

Nice drum painting rapidly changing of the seasons. And the distorted guitar brings its accidental storm which then fades when the sun comes back to melt the snow to softly flowing streams.

Wow, that is a great idea and a lovely outcome.

Your guitar, you sax sim and the bass are excellent and wrapped in a nice open mix.

We had 80 degree weather, then two days of tornado watches and now a lovely day with near freezing nights coming up.
Somebody take that toggle switch away from Ma Nature and give her a rheostat!

Sublimely enjoyable!

Well, I like it. All of it. One of your best, for me, in fact ... which - with your usual high standard - is saying something. So there :-)

(what's up with that last C7 chord, though? just wondered!) :-)

Well done!!! :-)
