Wind In The Woods

This song was "inspired" by all unpleasant ways to use words for self-praise, bigotry, propaganda, hatred, falsification just to name a few. And how easy it is to forget all words and fights when walking in nature and being in direct contact with the truth.

Silence is golden, so I suggest that instead of listening to this song, go out to the woods, nature's cathedral, listen to the wind and above all, be quiet smile

This song was almost ready when I got Synthesizer V Kevin, I first thought replacing my vocals with his, but his voice would have required quite much work to get rid of its dullness so I decided to stick with mine. However, you can get the feeling of Kevin in the backing vocals.

I used MicroChords for the first time in this song, seems like a very useful feature.

Lyrics:
Fools are wise in their own eyes
they harshly breathe through their teeth
but I rather feel god
breathe through the leaves
forgiveness and grace
all living things are embraced.

The wind in the woods
mutes the preaching of a man
no arrogance, no malice
in the voice of the higher plan.

Fools are vile, loud pride defiles
babbling grips puffed up lips
but the wind only brings
the babble of springs
the sound set to soothe
mouths cannot tell more of the truth.

The wind in the woods
mutes the preaching of a man
no words of condemnation
in the voice of the higher plan.

The might bigger than us
proves the value of creation
the lift in nature's cathedral
awakens veneration
Worthless are the vain
excessive words
The wind is the priest
the lone worthy to be heard.

The wind in the woods
mutes the preaching of a man
no arrogance, no malice
in the voice of the higher plan.

The wind in the woods
mutes the preaching of a man
no words of condemnation
in the voice of the higher plan.

This is quite lovely... Love the atmospheric vibe, and the lyrical message.
Vocals & background voices are terrific...
This is outstanding...

BTW, the deep woods behind my home are so thick, they are nearly impenetrable, the wind can't even get through... Biting insects and snakes are plentiful... there are also alligators and quicksand... Yes the spirits are strong on the Little Choctawhatchee River... I wrote a scary song about wondering around out there after dark... but I digress.

Very cool Janne. Nothing more perfect going for a walk in the woods with nothing but the sound of the wind and birds. Very cool intro. Super vocal and lyric. Instrumentation, mix and backtrack were excellent as well.

Janne,
Very nice and hypnotic tune. Clever use of synths. Mandolin fits perfectly.
"The wind in the woods
mutes the preaching of a man"
So true. Thank you for sharing.

Lovely tune and lyrical message, Janne. A walk in the woods (or 'the bush' as we call it in Australia) is always a balm to my soul.

Hi, Janne.

Pretty sound and vocals! The harmonies are nice, too.

I agree with Misha - the mandolin is a really nice fit here.

No woods around here, so your song will have to do. wink

Excellent track, you have created a really nice atmosphere with the instrumentation and arrangement, Janne.

Mandolin fits perfectly! Love the harmonies.

And yes, a walk through nature is always good for the soul, it's one of my favorite things to do smile

"This song was "inspired" by all unpleasant ways to use words for self-praise, bigotry, propaganda, hatred, falsification just to name a few. And how easy it is to forget all words and fights when walking in nature and being in direct contact with the truth." Wow, that's heavy, Janne. I love it and am an avid subscriber to your thinking. People often think I'm nuts because I communicate with trees and such. I just tell them to be quiet and listen. The trees do all the talking --it's up to us to interpret.

Man, this song perfectly illustrates in sound what you intended. Brilliant! Excellent choice of bandmates, and I actually prefer your vocal to anything Kevin would have done, but I like how you kept him on the payroll by sticking him in the choir. Just beautiful, brother.

A farmer I know explains tree pruning in terms of a conversation. You ask the tree questions with shears, it responds by growing differently. When you ask the right questions, it answers you with fruit. "Yes, thank you, I needed more sunlight over there."

"the lift in nature's cathedral
awakens veneration"

We live in a forest and walk our trails nearly every day.
That makes it very easy to relate to your fine lyric.

Janice said that the first time she listened to this she was looking out a window and the leaves were swaying in the breeze.

The wind sound of the guitar swell and the VST worked nicely.

Kevin did a good job with the BGV's! You two worked well together.

Janne:

A thoughtful write and a calm, soothing melodic backing—both make for a pretty tune. Not sure going with a vocaloid would have surpassed your execution of it vocally. I think you carry it very well. As others have noted, the mandolin is excellent in this—great choice!

All my best to you,

Deej

Janne, this is excellent

Walks in the woods are very relaxing, until I run across a discarded plastic bottle or beer can tossed by some dumb @ss. Then I get mad.

Anyway excellent song, good vocal and mix

Two thumbs up

Thanks Misha for your kind comment smile That indie guitar really creates the hypnotic mood. I'm glad you liked the synths also, because I was worried about them being too dominant. I really like the mandolin too, I was looking for tremolo instruments and BIAB gave me that mandolin, tremolo creates nice windy feeling.

Janne,

Very nice intro.
It's a little weird, but it's a great idea.
The sound is very novel.
The partial modulations that come out several times on the way are exquisite, and I think it's exactly yours.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Clever lyrics give credit to this soft and gentle ballad.

The instrumentation sits nicely in the mix, providing a steady rhythm to the composition.

A really nice delivery.

Thanks Marty for supporting my music and thinking smile "trees do all the talking", that is very fascinating observation, even if you are nuts, those who are not quiet or do not listen are fool laugh Keep on interpreting and let your music speak for nature (just like you have already done in many of your touching songs).

Hello Janne,

Wonderful song you made. A very lovely 'buil-up'of the melodywhere your vocals fit like a glove (if you can say it like this).
What a nice use of harmonics at 4:46 (I believe it was)!
You have a very nice choise of instruments, and, like others said, especially the mandolin was a topper.
But your lyrics and thoughts were even more beautiful. I liked your theme very much!

One little thing: at 1:40 it looks as if the word 'wind'is missing.
And your 2 lines;
"the lift in nature's cathedral
awakens veneration
Worthless are the vain
excessive words" ... these are very, very nice, but they must have caused some problems to sing them in rhythme and time, don't they? You / I can hear a tiny bit of that challenge ;-)

But I enjoyed it a lot, as I wrote before.

Thanks Deej for your heartwarming words smile My voice was breaking when singing this, but I'm glad it didn't bother you, Synth V voices don't suffer that problem so I was tempted to use Kevin...

Thanks Hans, always pleasure to read your insightful comments smile I'm very glad you liked my thoughts, although the wind has much more to say wink I can hear "wind" at 1:40... those 2 lines were actually easy to sing, but I realized afterwards that this bridge part works better with triplet feeling and thus I had to fix some rhythm issues with Melodyne, that part is interesting because the guitar is playing normal 4/4 and then the piano is playing 6/8.
