Here's a little ditty about a song writer going nowhere........hmm who could that be?

https://soundcloud.com/captainmoto/slow-train-to-nowhere

The Band:
As usual, I used BIAB for Bass & Drums.
Bass -2421 Bass, Acoustic, RockabillySlapBoomChicka
Drums - RealDrums=BoomChickaEv16^07-a Rods, Train, b Simple Kick, Snare
Acoustic Guitar - Captain Moto
Electric Guitar - Captain Moto
Vocals - Captain Moto

Recorded and mixed in Studio One 5 Pro

Here's the Lyrics:

Headed down to the rail road station, Get me a ticket out of town
I don't care where the train is headed, This old place is hold'n me down

I got a pencil in my pocket, Note book full of songs
On a slow train to nowhere, I'll be mov'n on

I'll be dragg'n one piece of luggage, Carry'n my guitar
Aint got much money, won't be eat'n in the dining car

I keep a pencil in my pocket, Note book full of songs
On a slow train to nowhere, I'll be mov'n on

On a slow train, to nowhere, I'll be writ'n songs
Don't know where I'm go'n, Hope I don't get lost
Oh baby

L.A. didn't want me, Phoenix Pass'n through
Lost my luck in Vegas, & Memphis gave me the blues
Oh I'm sit'n all alone, Music on my mind
And the rain keeps roll'n futher down the line

Keep a pencil in my pocket, Note book full of songs
On a slow train to nowhere, I'll be mov'n on

~Guitar Solo~

While the train keeps rock'n, I'll be writ'n , One more travel'n song
Ain't got nobody sitt'n by my side, My only friend is the songs I write
Some day I'll make it, no more rambl'n on
On a slow train to nowhere, I'll be move'n on..........Ooooo

End

This is a good, fun song.

Very clever too.

I smiled.

Good job!

Hi Captain,

I enjoyed this song and particularly liked the very effective and hypnotic train beat.

Well done.

Best Regards

I heard the opening bass, reached out, grabbed the caboose and climbed aboard. What a great ride, Moto. Man, you are good at these blues. You are the kind of talent I'd stand in line to see. If you're going Nowhere, well, I live right in the middle of Nowhere, so if you're ever out this way, let's play.

Very interesting look at it. As this slow train got rolling on, I could hear the man in black.... Johnny Cash doing this back in the day. It's got his classic vibe oozing out of every note.

Hi Moto Man ...

What a great song and your delivery is spot on. I agree with Herb about the Johnny Cash reference. This is one of my very favorites in quite some time! Super sweet! Tip of the hat for a job extremely well done.

Thanks for giving it a listen.
Trains are always good for song writers.

A fun one. Well done.

The train beat seems appropriate for a train song smile

Sounds good. Enjoyed.

Cool song Captain... Neat production... great Singin' & Playin'

Cap’n:

Wow, what great vibe you have going on here . . .a toe-tapper with lots of atmosphere. Really like the prosody; that is, the beat and melody are almost familiar but your vocal delivery, delayed and disjointed in spots, gives it it’s own being—yeah, that’s perhaps an odd way to express it, but what I simply mean to say is that it’s fresh, unique and a hell of a good song! Outstanding!

All my best to you,

Deej

Avery cool sound that chugs along well.
I did find that my brain expected certain phrasing for the vocal melody in various parts and that kept distracting me..my problem.

Wonderful. Love the guitar playing, too!!! Johnny Cash would be proud of this one. Well done.

Loved the writing in this song. I think it could have done in a variety of ways and tempos and still come out very well. I agree with everyone about having that Johnny Cash feel, and man that's a hard one to beat. Thanks for the post, it was a good listen.

Thanks Deej,
It's obvious I'm not a top notch vocalist, just try'n to put words to music.
The vocal approach was deliberate, didn't want a humdrum, same ole song feel, even thought in many ways it is.

Thanks, I'm sure your brain is just fine, I was just tossing a few curveballs.

moto, you have another winner in this one

I agree with the Johnny Cash statements

Like Marty I would stand in line to see you preform.

Super groove for a train song.

Loved it.

And as David said, a clever write as well.

Hi Mo,

It almost feel I was on the train, while your song was playing.
I saw a beautiful landscape and was enjoying my rum (was not allowed, but it looked like tea).

Well that the kind of things crossing my mind with your attractive song. And you sang it very well!
I endorse all the positive comments you have received about it.

Kinda like a Guy Clark (vocally) and Johnny Cash (vibe) mashup.

Infectious indeed. Better word than "catchy" we hope smile

Well performed and mixed. Lovin' that slap bass too.

Enjoyed it!

Many of us are surely in that train, usually going nowhere smile Very nice groove, although not sounding like a slow train, the band really rocks fast ahead. The bass is excellent selection and the guitars tinkle nicely. Enjoyed the vocals.

Yeah, that opening bass is an ear-grabber.

The stereo spread on the mix sounds wonderfully good.

Good songs! Something that I could listen to in a 1954 Studebaker Commander. Now if I could only get my hands on some money to by one.

Hey Captain Moto,

Great prosody! The feel of the music and the lyrics really matched well. Thanks for taking me down the tracks with you on this one.

Na zdrowie!

Nice work Captain.

Fun song, fun lyrics. Especially like the lines "Keep a pencil in my pocket, Note book full of songs, On a slow train to nowhere, I'll be mov'n on"

I found the snare distracting. Perhaps using a shuffle rhythm with brushes would work better here? I think it would fit the train vibe better.
Posted By: RnAM Re: Slow Train To Nowhere - 05/19/22 03:51 PM
Very nice train.
Even without lyrics and title you'd know it has got to do with a train.
Good vocals.
Good guitar work!

Captain,
A good write, solid vocal and your guitars are chugging right along; it all works... hope you get some more songs out of the trip!
