Carbon Copies

It feels like Groundhog Day
It’s the same for everyone
Our days have all become like
Carbon copies

Weatherman says it might rain
Sun or rain it’s all the same
When tomorrow and today are
Carbon copies

All the things I took for granted
Never thought I’d miss them, oh so bad
So busy running on that little spinning wheel
Didn’t stop to reflect on what I had

It feels like Groundhog Day
Like it’s always been this way
Like we never sailed above
The clouds

Words politicians say
Same things they said yesterday
So tired of listening to
Those clowns

All they care about is power
And how to keep it in their hands
Calculating who’s expendable
When they’re drawing up their little plans

Should have seen the coming storm
All that writing on the wall
If only we’d been following
The science

It feels like Groundhog Day
All our hopes have flown away
Like swallows gone to
Warmer climates

All the things I took for granted
Never thought I’d miss them, oh so bad
So busy running on that little spinning wheel
Didn’t stop to reflect on what I had

It feels like Groundhog Day
It’s the same for everyone
Our days have all become like
Carbon copies

The intro is a classic capture/hook...well done.

Classic vocal from Leon too...good writing and performance.
I'm not quite as cynical as some parts of the song but I do have a scepticism that almost matches it.
I really, really smooth band, arrangement and performances.
The harmonies throw a big lift exactly where needed and the reminds me a little of Stars as presented in the Andy Durant memorial Concert album.

The charming intro leads to a song that is easy to relate to. During the lockdown, the days felt like the same and even now that I don't have regular working hours anymore, it is difficult to remember what day it is. Nicely the story is expanded from the personal level to the politics and even to the world.

Great band, very mellow mood. The melody and chords are very pleasing. Enjoyed the solo and the vocals.

A thoughtful and thought-provoking lyric woven neatly into the fabric of a great backing track.

Like I said in my SoundCloud comment:

Nice work guys, I particularly like that chord change on every fourth line!

Cool tune Peter and Leon. I totally got the Ground dog day syndrome as well. Had to judge what day it was by when they picked up the garbage out front. Lockdown in winter in Northern Canada is pretty uneventful. Cool lyric and and vocals. Guitar was excellent. Loved the guitar playing behind the solo was a really cool add. Well done..

"All they care about is power

Amen bro.

Well, we could not agree more on the lyric! Groundhog Day indeed.

Both vocals are great, and as mentioned, the placement of the harmonies is oh, so good.

You know we love your guitar work, quite obviously Peter, but also your arrangement is excellent.

Janice has been humming this tune for days so you know she loves it. smile

Enjoyed it! A lot.

Peter & Leon,
I concur with many of the observations in the clever lyrics, and the title really sums up the feeling... which as you guys sing and play with energy and enjoyment, doesn`t bring me down at all!
Cool song.

Such an excellent vocal, Leon, and I always enjoy your crafty lyrics. What a good write, Peter. Excellent solo. Man, I really like that bass, and you dress it with just the perfect guitar interaction. Brilliant how the guitars carry it to the fade. Very enjoyable.

Peter,

You and Leon are an excellent team! You always produce great songs! Leon's vocals are tops on this! Guitar parts sound super...loved those little slide parts you put in there! The 2 guitars playing off each other in the solo was effective!

Thanks, Torrey

Darn good song. Darn good lyrics.

Love the instrumental feel, sort of like the Traveling Wilburys.

Your guitar fill are great (solo too). I wish I had the ability to do those.

Peter and Leon—

What a nice collaboration! Great vocal, nice backing . . . and a cool hook. (Of course, “carbon copies” may be an outdated term, but for us older folk, it brings back some memories). Terrific write with a cool message. Well done, gents!

My best to you both,

Deej
