A change of pace. Blame Floyd for his last song. It got me all worked up.

Don't Blame Me When I Fall

By David Snyder

https://soundcloud.com/david-snyder-gigs3/dont-blame-me-when-i-fall

V1

I’d like to talk to the man upstairs
Yeah I would like to have a word
Few things about my life round here
Well, they seem a bit absurd
I didn’t ask to come here
No I didn’t volunteer
I didn’t ask for so many rules and worries
And so many reasons to shed a tear

Pre CH

I didn’t make nothing round here
I didn’t make nothing at all

CH

So don’t blame me for gravity, don’t blame me for tragedy
Don’t blame me for whiskey when I make it to last call
Don’t blame me for drinking it, cause God, you know I need it
And most of all, sir, if you please
Don’t blame me
Don’t blame me when I fall

V2

And don’t blame me
For missing her
Cause it hurts me every day
And you never bothered telling me
Why you took my girl away
When you chose to make me human
Did you know just what that means
Cause you made a heart that breaks too many ways
It seems

CH

So don’t blame me for gravity, don’t blame me for tragedy
Don’t blame me for whiskey when I make it to last call
Don’t blame me for drinking it, cause God, you know I need it
And most of all, sir, if you please
Don’t blame me
Don’t blame me when I fall

All righty! Keep cueing up those Floyds!
A unique song here, good job.
Just one small nit. I think the vocals may flow a little better with "cause God, you know I needed it"
Like I say, it's a nit.

This is pretty good David! It grabbed me for sure.
That acoustic guitar you are playing sounds great as well, nice high frequencies, crystal clear sound.

Yeah, definitely one of your best songs so far I think.

The Blame Trilogy 66.66% done?
Well arranged and your parts stand out as the glue and highlights.
That is one of the better songs you've written. Personally, I'd remove the PC because it doesn't add and, it's only used once proving it's not needed.

Good song.

David,

Premium stuff! You're hitting on all cylinders... Great, great song and performance.

David,
An excellent confessional write with appropriately raw sounding vocal.
I really like the live unplugged feel your guitar gives the song.
Alt. country at its best!

Robert
David, very nice song. It has a lot of feeling coming through, and though I know it could have been done in a variety of ways, I think you chose just the right one. Loved how the guitar went from picking to strumming and how the bass and the cello came in. A very good write, IMO, a lot of folks have felt this way in their life at one point or another and this song gives a voice to those feelings. Great job.

Sorry, dude...I think I need to blame you for everything.
Really.
Everything.

Nice production and a really nice vocal.
Nice write.
The Sensitive David Snyder.

An excellent listen.

It's a good song, I think it resonates with a lot of people because almost everyone who's a bit older (ahem) has been at that point asking those questions.

During my first listen I thought the verses were a bit too long, but with the second listen with the knowledge where the song goes it's obvious that they are just the right length.
And the chorus with the cello...goosebumps

"Cause you made a heart that breaks too many ways" is brilliant.
I think I have to blatantly steal that grin
A nice sensitive tune David. Quite a strong write with an excellent arrangement, production and performance. The vocals were really nice.

The message is really easy to relate to, well not just few things and not just bit absurd... I really like how most of your songs have this "bigger than life" feeling. Funny and touching in a Monty Python way, definitely instant hit material with an excellent title and a catchy chorus. The arrangement, the mix and the vocals are all top quality.

Janne

I will Ed. Thanks!

Thanks Bass Thumper. I am glad you enjoyed it.

You ideas are always good.

Hey Thanks you two! I appreciate that Rob and Anne-Marie!

This is an exceptional piece on songwriting. Your poignant lyrics pierce the heart. The production/arrangement is perfect.

Fantastic work!
David,

All of us in this forum could lay the blame at Floyds feet for influencing us in the songs we post laugh

This is beautiful tune that I feel is one of your finest efforts! It's absolutely great! BTW you have done quite a bit of influencing the other singer/songwriters in this forum yourself!

Thanks, Torrey

Ah, thanks so much, Floyd. David, I've been listening a lot to your songs lately and you don't really need much of a nudge to be creative. Man, this is such a good song. A very worthy prayer. You speak for us all. So when I get there I'll just say blame David Snyder --free pass. What a good song and such a good mix.

Thanks Ray.

My last tune is called:

Don't Blame Me, Blame it on Ray C.

That is the third song in the trilogy. I am working on it now.

I wanted to talk about everything you have done and said wrong in the forum and I am up to 43 minutes, so I am going to have to prune it back some. That is my only problem.
“I’d like to talk to the man upstairs
Yeah I would like to have a word
Few things about my life round here
Well, they seem a bit absurd”

We’ve had those moments before. wink

We like your softer side, David. Very good vocal.

Very enjoyable band and a warm open/airy mix.

Well done!

Hi, David.

Lovely song. Some excellent lyrics, but one of my favorites:

Don’t blame me for whiskey when I make it to last call

Sensitive David sounds great. smile

Wow, this is a keeper. I'd have to go back through your many fine tunes and listen again, but I'd say this one ranks near the top. Terrific lyrics, plaintive vocals that fit perfectly, and the whole package grabs you by the throat. Well done!

Thanks Bob! You guys keep me going!!

smile

Thanks Robert! Alt-country at it's best. I'll take that!

smile

Thanks Brad. That means a lot to me man. I appreciate it.

I could do (and have done) a more "studio" version but as you say, I am not sure that would be better that the authenticity of the "real thing."

Thanks again brother.

Excellent song, David! Everything about this is so good. And I do blame you for that!

That was more than a treat - it was a gift. Thank you ...

Alan

Thank you Floyd. I do get sensitive several times a year.

Excellent backing combined with a strong, heartfelt lyric. At times it seemed like the melody had a touch of uncertainty about it, like it was kind of wandering about. I guess that could be the effect of the whiskey. wink

An enjoyable listen.

Thanks, B.D. I am glad you enjoyed it!!

"That damned Cuban cigar got me all riled up" - Percy, "Open Range"

Good one, Dave. Nicely captures the frailty of the human condition.

Thank You Charlie. That really means a lot, and I am glad you liked it!

David,
good raw power of song writing. Good job of putting it all together. Sounds very "live", I guess that was one of the goals. Thank you for sharing.

Misha.

Thanks Mario! That makes me feel great! Thanks for the listen!

Thanks Dewey! I am really glad you liked it!

Excellent write, David. I particularly like verse 2, but it's all good. Raw and live sounding mix is perfect for the song. One of your best.

Leon

Okay, I'm bumping this one in addition to Dewey's song as favorites of mine for 2022. I listen to it a lot.

Thanks Tunemonger!

So kind of you to say.

I am really glad you enjoyed this song so much.

Happy New Year man!!
