Who's That Knockin' Hi Folks,
Here's a new Swing song I wrote recently featuring Horns and Vocals.
Music & Lyrics - Nigel Spiers
Vocals and BV's - Nigel Spiers
Band In A Box by PG Music Real Tracks:
Bass - 3478 - Neil Swainson
Drums - Nashville Swing8 - Brian Fullen
Guitar - 558 - Oliver Gannon
Piano - 1566 - John Jarvis
Sax - 1953 - Mark Douthit
Horns - 3998 - Chris West
Hi Nigel ...
Love Big Band siounds! And Swing is my favorite sub-genre. I like this a bunch! I think that bg acoustic piano could be a touch louder without interfering with the vocal, but sounds great as is. You have a super voice for the genre.
This is rteally nice - loved it!
Alan
Hi Alan,
Thanks for the suggestion. Yes I have added half a Db to both piano and rhythm guitar tracks and re-posted the song on Soundcloud.
Hi Nigel ...
I'm delighted my suggestion was helpful. Just took a listen to the repost. In my old man's ears, I think it sounds more "robust:". Always love your musuic! Best to you ...
Alan
Hi Alan,
Yes - I agree definitely more body and more gutsy.
Best Regards
Nigel
Nigel,
A fun song.
The best use of the BIAB horns I've ever heard. By far.
Excellent vocals and BGVs. Sitting perfectly.
Bass and drums sound great.
Excellent mix.
Well done.
.if
Not my favorite genre, but it's a really cool song and you have the perfect voice for this kind of music.
Tasteful arrangement with a very good choice of instruments. Well done!
This was so good, I thought at first you paid Chris West on airgig to do your horns. Then I went back and read they were RTs. Amazing! I have two horn songs coming up in the near future and neither are this good. Everything done just right on this as usual. A real pleasure to listen to, top shelf work!
Hi Floyd,
Thanks for your comments.
With Chris West's Horns I set the EQ in BIAB at -10 to make them sit down in the mix.
Best Regards
Nigel
Hi B.D. Thomas,
Thanks for your comments.
Best Regards
Nigel
You have such a grasp on music and genres that fit your vocals and style like a glove. I agree with others that have noted the amazing sound from the horns. Enjoyed this from start to finish.
Charlie
Well man, you know I'm all about jazz and this is top notch!
Mike B.
Hi Nigel
The song sounds great
Super sung
Plus the great background track
Hard to believe that you can do all this with BiaB
Many greetings
Andi ;-)
Hi Tunemonger,
Yes Chris West's Horns are superb.
I have not used his individual horn tracks yet just his ensembles. As I mentioned to Floyd - I set the EQ in BIAB at -10 for the Horn ensembles because they are a bit toppy and it makes them sit down at the back of the mix.
Good luck with your horn tracks - can't wait to hear them.
Best Regards
Nigel
This is your best to date!
Love that big band blues.
This sounds like a live jam - excellent work on that.
The best use of those horn RTs I have ever heard.
Loved it.
Nigel
Very engaging, excellent vocals, arrangement and the work with the horns is superb, they can be a challenge!
Peter
Man, that's swinging!
I'm bopping in my chair as I'm listening.
Mix sounds good.
Infectious song.
Excellent! Man, I love hearing swing blues with a horn section, and you did a great job arranging them.
And of course, you have the perfect voice for this type of material.
Enjoyed this one, Nigel, well done.
LOVE it! You can't help but smile with swing and the delivery is amazingly fun. Great hook as well. Thanks for sharing your talents with us Nigel.
Hi Charlie,
Thanks for your generous comments.

Nigel
This got a big smile from me.
Love your voice, stellar arrangement, and I love the BGVs - great blend.
Plus, catchy chorus!
Nigel,
Very fun! Excellent composition & vocals. You tamed these horns well. Good listen and thank you for sharing.
Misha.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your comments.

Nigel,
That's an enjoyable light and lively piece! The vocals are top shelf for sure! Love the mix! Those horns really take this on up to a higher level!
Thanks, Torrey
Hi Nigel you know how to get everyone in the mood!
This song is no exeption at all to that!
Very good use of the BiaB instruments, especially the sax and horns!
I sometimes tried horns in my own songs, but quickly removed them again. But in your songs they fit perfectly!
And I haven't mentioned your very nice vocals yet. They are made for this music, very good, man!
The lyrics were pure fun.
Hans
No one does it better, Nigel. Every time I hear one of your songs, I say it would be a gas to see you play. Man, I'd travel far for that. You make me think New Zealand is closer and closer with each song. Man, that's an awesome horn arrangement. All BiaB? Tremendous. A couple more like these and you'll be saying "Who's that knockin'?" And it'll be me, asking you to give the bass player the night off.
Hi Andi,
Thanks for all your generous comments - much appreciated.

Just about missed this one. What a cool tune. So much life in the backtrack and supporting instruments. Awesome vocal and backtrack.
Nigel,
Best use of the RealTracks!
The horn band is great.
The blues are swinging beautifully.
Your vocals fit it perfectly.
I think those RealTracks are definitely made for playing the blues.
Enjoyed my listen a lot.

Hi Hans,
Thanks for your very generous comments.
Horns - I'm a bit surprised they didn't fit your song - was it a swing/shuffle song?
The Horn Sections have a lot of playing in them. I think this is because they are designed as a lead and rhythm. They need a lot of work in your DAW if you just want them to be a Rhythm sound in a "question and answer" format. In this case - don't try and edit them in BIAB - it won't work because you need them to overlap the vocals and lead instruments in places throughout the song.
Best Regards
Nigel
Hi Nigel,
This is the kind of song I really like!
It swings and makes me tap my feet.
Great music and vocals.
