Dire Straits

(lyrics below)

So with this new tune, I worked on some new methods for reference tracks using the BIAB rendered “bed” as the reference track itself.

I am responsible for the playing behind 4 essential guitar parts: A Gretsch Country Gentleman rhythm and picking part, and a Strat rhythm and lead, both sets right and left. I used Neutron 4 and Audiolens to grab and use the EQ curve from Sultans of Swing. I like the way the Gretsch and Strat sound together.

By the way, in time for Christmas, the WHISKEY TOWN album is out everywhere. Buy it for loved ones, or search for it on Spotify. cool

Dire Straits

By David Snyder

V1

She said honey get your money
take me out and buy me something to drink
we can talk about it later
don't forget to tip your waitress and wink
when we get back home I'm gonna strip to the bone just wait
you can crawl up to me slowly
and then you'll see the pearly gates

CH

She said oooh baby
play me some Dire Straits
I’m your Tunnel of love
I know you just can’t wait
Play me some Dire Straits

V2

She said forget that modern music
don't play me nothing I will hate
if you want feel my loving
you gotta take me back to the day
If you want to taste my honey
you gotta give me what I crave
If you wanna taste my honey
You got to learn not to behave

CH

She said oooh baby
play me some Dire Straits
if you wanna hear me scream
you got to play some Dire Straits

Bridge

She said I'll make you feel like Romeo
So make me feel like Juliet
let my dress fall slowly
cause you ain't had all of me yet
Yeah let my dress fall slowly
Cause you don’t quite know me yet
But if you know what you’re doing
You’re gonna break into a sweat
That’s what I bet
Oh yeah

Pha, shameless copy ... which I like. A LOT!

You really did a great job, and I'm a little surprised by your vocal performance, it's a pretty good Knopfler sound.
I love all the references to the old songs smile

My only minor nit is the guitar in the center, the timing isn't always in the pocket. But maybe that's the way you wanted it though...

David,

Well, now, that was a fun listen and a great tribute to Mr. Knopfler and company. You did an awesome job creating their sound, right down the to vocal performance. Really good stuff, dude! And that write—man, very impressive. Take a bow!

Best wishes for a great holiday season,

Deej

Ha ha, a shameless Sultans emulation, but really well done!

Ha! You're a funny - and very skilled - guy. Clever write.

Your Mark Knopfler has a touch of Springsteen, which makes it even more hilarious.

Love it! laugh

No need for the double entendre then?
I think the strat needs a lot more compression to ping right.
Nothing shameless about this - it is what it says on the tin.
You do a good Knofler vocal melody.

Some clever stuff going on here, David. Good soundcraft and very good lyric writing.

Hi David,

Well, one of my favorite bands ever is Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler in particular, have all of their albums both on vinyl and CD.

This is great! Fun to hear references to some of the songs, and I'm also hearing some of his licks in there too.

Nicely done, very much enjoyed.

David, l appreciate the nod to Knopfler in the guitar tone and technique as well as the vocal. Nicely written and produced. Well done, Tom

Nice job, very good lyrics as I've come to expect from you. I'm definitely hearing more of a Springsteen thing vocally. In fact, you could front an E St. tribute band easy. The other day I was listening on Soundcloud and your song Don't Blame Me When I Fall came on. Man, it sounded so good. Really pro. Like something Dylan could have done. High marks, dude!

I agree with tommyad, it's nice to see Knopfler get a nod now and then.
A creative piece here, good job.

Always enjoy your songwriting. Always fresh.

Nice job of dialing in that guitar sound.

The song has a lot that makes you immediately think of the original band ;-)
But especially your vocals are the cracker
Well done

Hey B.D.,

Thanks for the listen!

Well, I listened to that Strat rhythm and lead tracks soloed side by side and did not hear anything that was not what I had intended.

That Knopfler style uses a "raking" style at times which means you have a cascade or flurry of notes when you rake downwards with one finger on a chord and then pick some descending or ascending notes at the bottom a millisecond later.

(You will hear this technique the most in the opening 14 seconds. Listen carefully and you will hear the Dm at the 10th fret being raked, with cascading notes in that scale tripping over the chiming held notes of the chord just played.)

Not all notes will be in the pocket from a traditional standpoint, but they are not supposed to be. It's an eccentric groove. Anyway, for better or worse, it sounds like what I wanted to do.

David,
An impressive write; your humour making this so much more than a tribute song.
Great to hear your guitar chops too.
There`s no limit to Mr Snyder`s musical guises!

I'm glad that I don't have to wait for years to hear new David Snyder music, like I had to with that another DS mentioned in the title laugh Very fun and brings nice memories from the early 80's, nice guitar playing. Lyrics work very well on their own, but the DS references do no harm, great lines like "If you wanna taste my honey/You got to learn not to behave". I really enjoyed the vocals, stronger than MK and less laconic.

Just wondering what's coming up next smile

BTW. I really like your Whiskey Town album, Jubal and Don't Blame Me When I Fall are my top favorites.

The Urban Dictionary defines "the Tunnel of Love" as [CENSORED].

We well remember the first time we heard them and Knopfler’s tone is unmistakable.
