I put this together 11 years ago, before I even heard of BIAB. Most of the lyrics were written by Glynda Duncan.
I replaced some of the tracks this week but kept my original bass and guitar fills.
Drums: Southern Soul (edited)
Guitars: Steel 2544, Acoustic 825
Guitar fills and bass: Me
It may be a little slow for most ears and I appear to have lost the lyrics copy but it should be clear enough to follow.

Slow? No, one can get rather flamboyant with slow waltz. This song has a wonderfully flowing feel, and of course your vocal tells the story like no other could. Man, this is good. Simply very good. Your guitar work is really done well, and the bass is perfectly appropriate. That steel really adds a nice touch. Johnny Cash would love to do this song, but personally I'll say this is one the writer can do much better.
Vic...very pretty melody...you delivered it vocally so well...the BiaB tracks that you added were apropos for the melody and movement of the song...to those of us who appreciate ballads it certainly is not to slow...Glynda wrote some very poignant lyrics and your melody and performance of them was stellar...I really enjoyed it.
Hello really great job very engaging well sung!!!! enjoyed this very much thanks fmm
Hi there Marty.
You are very kind again. I'm no lead guitarist but I liked the sound I was getting.
I'd be shocked if JC could do it from wherever he is but it's a nice thought.
Vic
I think your song is neither slow nor boring.
3/4 has its own laws, even a (technically) slow song gets a drive that 4/4 doesn't have.
I like it and your vocals are very convincing.
The arrangement is good, the mix is good...there's nothing to complain about
Vic & Glynda,
A nice song. Pleasant vocal.
An appropriate backing for the song.
Good mix.

Very nice Vic. I especially liked the vocal performance.
Really nice, Vic, especially your vocal, the guitar fills and the lyrics. I listened several times, has a classic feel. Great work!
Thanks, Firesong.
My voice was a little clearer 11 years ago.
Vic
Thank you F.M.M.
Glad you enjoyed.
Vic
Thanks B.D.
That’s an interesting way of putting it but of course you’re right.
It’s about the dynamics.
Vic
Thank you Floyd.
This was a year or so before you told me about BIAB.
Vic
Vic, I agree with the others. Very well done indeed and man, with your vocals you'll never be broke
Happy you like it, Brad.
Thank you.
Vic
Hey Vic. Wonderful song and great warm production.
It has a real Waylon Jennings feel with a touch of Mr. Cash.
Thanks for posting. Rob4580
This is an awesome song.
This would be a perfect song for the last Johnny Cash's album.
Also this is not too slow. I think it is the perfect time signature for this song.
Super vocal with outstanding lyrics.
Great guitar licks!
Super mix.
Very sweet and tender Vic.
Man, you are on a roll!
The arrangement is good...the guitar playing the lines n fills does well but sounds a little spanky/electric acoustic DI to my ears...just a little removed from the mix.
Lovely story.
Thank you, Tunemonger.
Glad you liked it.
Vic
Vic, I agree with the others. Very well done indeed and man, with your vocals you'll never be broke
Thanks. Battered but not broke.
Vic
Hi Rob.
Thanks very much.
I like both of those greats.
Vic
Mario.
As always, you are very appreciative and I thank you for that.
Vic
Thank you David.
It's quite an old roll.
Vic
Thank you for that thought Ray.
You are spot on with the DI electro Acoustic. I did think that it was an odd tone myself, at one time.
I have adjusted the tone somewhat now so hope it fits better.
Vic
Hi, Vic.
A melancholic lyric set to a waltz? I'm all in for that!
Well done - tugged at my heart right and proper.
Vic,
Really pretty song . . . like the waltz tempo. Yeah, I can see how some might find it a little slow . . . but a good voice and a good lyric go along way, and coupled with the guitar work on this it stay engaging for these ears. Real nice work on this one!
All my best to you,
Deej
Music to my ears, David.
Thank you.
Vic
Lovely "waltz song".
I love 3/4 music.
You sing it beautifully. music is great.
Anne-Marie
Hi Ann-Marie.
Thank you very much for the comment.
Vic
Very well done, Vic. I like slow, and I like the folksy Cash-like song. Vocal is delivered just right for the lyric and style. The chorus stays with you. I could hear this in a movie soundtrack.
Praise indeed, Anne-Marie.
Thank you.
Vic
Hi TuneMonger.
Yes I like that style too.
Thank you.
Vic, A very good write from you and Glynda. The vocal is delivered to perfection. This mix of folk and country with a little Celtic thrown in for good measure reminds once again of Gordon Lightfoot. Not a bad place to be. Well done, Tom
Very inviting title introduces nicely the beautiful, touching story. Good arrangement, the steel guitar always brings that fitting feeling of longing. And with the deep voice you have, nothing can go wrong, excellent performance.
Janne
Cheers Tom.
Just to hear Lightfoot's name is great.
Vic
Thank you E.S.
I like them too.
Vic
That’s nice of you to say, Janne.
Thank you.
When I was younger I could hit a low C but now it’s hard to hit an E without croaking.
I suppose one day I won’t be able to hit anything.
Vic
Warm and pleasant vocals and band. The slow waltz was an excellent choice.
You express the yearning in the lyric very well.
Nice guitar and bass too, Vic.
We like these buried treasures!
J&B
Thank you for the support as always, J&B
