A song about silver linings and two sides of a coin.

Dave Bell of Blue Attitude [I always say it that way, although for most here I'd just have to say Dave] did such a terrific job on the intro, solo and fills that I slotted it 4th on a new album that comes out on Valentine's Day. That slot is important to me because of all the time I spent filling in lineup cards as a baseball coach. Fourth was always where we put the one most likely to hit a home run. This song will never be a hit, but he knocked it out of the park.

Key=F , Tempo 86, Length (m:s)=3:51
4 bar intro, 75 bar chorus, from bar 5 to bar 79. Repeat x1 chorus

Style is _BLZ85ND.STY (Midtempo Jazz Blues)
Style MIDI Instruments are : Slow Strings (50),
RealTracks in style: ~577:Guitar, Resophonic, Rhythm Blues Crossroads Ev 085
RealTracks in style: 573:Guitar, Electric, Rhythm Blues BB Ev 085

Somewhere In The Loss

Somewhere in the night you can feel your debt is due.
You want to make it right, but you fear what may be true.
All the dreams you had for your life can still remain.
Somewhere in the loss you'll find the gain.

Somewhere down the road such a loss will take its toll.
You want to pay what's owed, but not lose your very soul.
When you look inside you can see you share the blame.
Somewhere in the loss you'll find the gain.

Are you hoping it just will disappear?
The guilt you hide inside of you.
You can't run away, so face what you fear.
Time to decide. You know what to do.

Somewhere in your mind is the cause of all your pain.
You need to find a way to fan forgiving flames.
Somewhere in the loss you'll find the gain.

Hey Marty and Dave...man that was a great piece of music...it's a "hit" in my book...you guys are such great musicians and your use of BiaB and video production is pro-level...well...quite honestly makes me a bit jealous (or maybe a lot)...no one likes the loss...but working through it is "gain"...thoughts well put in a stellar musical package...I think your clean-up guy hit it out of the park!

Marty and Blue Attitude strike again! The hook and theme of this song is fantastic. As always the musicianship really stands out. Great job gentlemen. Oh, and that last scene on the video hits hard - excellent choice!

Marty

Great sound, excellent vocal and bass and Dave shines throughout. Excellent fiery solo and fills.

You make a great team.

Couldn't decide whether this is a sad song or not, well that's those two sides of the coin... something inevitable... finally the video showed one explanation. Anyhow, the lyrics are very strong: I really like these messages "You can't run away, so face what you fear.Time to decide. You know what to do." & "Somewhere in your mind is the cause of all your pain."

The blues band is perfect for the story and Dave is always the man of gain.

Good emotional vocals.

I'll be eagerly waiting to hear all those filled slots smile

Marty and team . . . what a wonderful piece of music. Dave's guitar is stellar as usual and the lyrics are brilliant and for me uplifting because there may be loss but later there will be gain.

I listened twice. First with no video distractions, then the video.

Professional all the way, great job to all involved.

I have no idea if this will be a hit or not, but what I do know is that your bass noodling and Dave's guitar are a great combination.
Very good work by all involved smile

Thanks so much, Dan. Very kind, and much appreciated. Glad it makes you a bit zealous. Right, Dave swings for the fences and never misses.

Yeah, I thought you'd like that roll-away the stone shot, Brad. The song wasn't technically about that, but when I was searching for vidz to use, that came up and I thought,
"Wow, how appropriate. It tells it better than anything else."

Hi Marty,

You made a very nice song with wonderful lyrics. I'm impressed (again)!
And the vocals are marvellous. Like what you need while singing the Blues.
Dave was also doing a very good job on the intro and solo. Man, delicious!

Now I understand you were sooo busy at the end of last year.

I enjoy the song a lot,
Hans

Howdy Marty....

I'll echo all other comments.
Very pensive & moody with great axe work by Dave.
It has a Santana vibe to it....who wouldn't like that! smile
Vox is good too....wish I hold notes like that. (in my wildest :))

Well done collaborators.

Carry on....

Thanks, Janne. Always enjoy your comments. Yeah, all pain IS in the brain, but the mind can certainly create pain that otherwise wouldn't be there. Imagination is as strong a sense as sight. Man, you're right about Dave being the gain in this and all my songs he's on.

Thanks, Steve. You're right, the videos can definitely take one's attention away from the actual song. Thanks for the listens and comments, my PA friend.

Hi, BD. My standards of "hit" are already met when you like it. There are a lot of hits and misses, but I can't stop swinging. Dave is a heavy hitter.

Great sound on this one. Dave’s guitar tone has never been better and his playing is extra good. Marty your vocal is definitely among your best. The mix is excellent and the write makes some very interesting points which make it easy to return for repeated listens. Bravo, Tom

The solo has a nice sting - some BB style and emtion.
The vocal is sssssssssssssssssssssssmmmmmmmmmmmmmooooooooth with the occasional catch of emotion.
Well written lyrics, cool structure & progressions.
It's TIP TOP excellent.

"Somewhere in the loss you'll find the gain."

A genuinely creative way to refer to the proverbial silver lining.
Excellent!

Fine vocals, bass and Dave knocks that solo outa the park.
Guess he was up fourth smile

No need to parse it out. Excellent production and video to present it all.
As Janice said, slowly rocking to the tune, "the whole thing is smooth..."

Indeed.

Sublime,

I didn't think I'd like this one, from the first couple of notes - teach me to judge a book by its cover. I'm glad I stuck with it. Man, this is absolutely brilliant. Dark, grim and brilliant. Special mention to Dave, his solos are like "wow, did he just do that?" :-) . Absolutely loved every aspect of this song, particularly its darkness, and - somehow - its redemptive qualities despite that. Anyway, I know you for far happier songs, on the surface, so it's really great to hear this, and hear you do something like this. Now I know, when it comes to you, to always stick with the song, and give it and you a proper chance before moving away :-) I'm glad I did. Bravo, bravo.

Really good song, liked the lyrics and the singing was primo. Dave killed it on guitar, of course. Great package, especially when you get a video to boot.

Marty,

You didn't have to say Dave's name at all, and I still would have known who it was! He's a great blues guitarist! Your vocals and bass playing are really good here as they always are! You just keep cranking out great tunes and I love it!

Thanks, T

Marty,

Bluesy and moody right out of the gate. Dave’s guitar playing really sets the stage and your vocal keeps the vibe going. Impressive write and I like the juxtaposition of loss and gain—creative write there. Stellar mix!

I had to laugh regarding your comment on how you put an album line up together. I do the exact same thing. I need a lead-off hitter on that first track . . . something to get the album going . . . than a reliable number two . . . a song to just put the ball in play and set the table . . . third up, something that will drive the ball to the gap . . . and then, as you note, that slugger in the 4 spot to drive them all in! Though sadly, I often have too many pitchers hitting in my lineup, LOL!

Good stuff, you two. You’ll have to remind us when the album comes out!

All my best,

Deej

Haha, thanks so much, James. Glad you came around. I knew if you'd wait for Dave's solo, you'll love the song (at least part of it). To me the song is as bright as it is dark-- hope in the hopelessness.

Thanks, Andi. Yes, having Dave in a song is like having Duane Allman or Slowhand Clapton in the studio. Those 3 can make any song better.

Yes, most folks here know Dave by sound (including taste, tone and creativity), but I always add the Blue Attitude moniker in case someone is yet unfamiliar. This way they can find more of his own stuff. Thanks, Torrey!

Thanks so much, Deej. Yeah, you get it. HAHA, too many pitchers. I also coached some Little League where the pitchers were likely your shortstop and best hitter, too. smile But with 18 and 19 year olds they were becoming specialized.
