Another forum member indicated he is interested in creating Soundfonts. +++ Polyphone Soundfont Editor +++ is a free software tool for creating Soundfonts. The site has versions for Windows, Mac and Linux!

Also note the website is a depository to facilitate storing and exchanging Soundfonts.

Thanks JF, that other one you found too, Folder to SFZ, is great, it's Java so multiplatform also.
