Morning all,

I've started to experiment with midi piano a bit and I'm looking for a recommendation for a VSTi with a good Rhodes sound.

Any thoughts on this?

I have the Addictive Keys Rhodes which I think is a perpetual giveway (one keyboard per customer) for anyone owning a Focusrite. (Normally $89.)

I LOVE mine and run it through the Twin Reverb in Amplitube. Pretty daggone close for a soft synth.

GSi stuff is top shelf. And you can’t beat their prices. You can try their old stuff and if you like it, buy the newer instruments.

Here's some free sfz you can use in Sforzand that comes with Biab:

I should mention that GSi VSTi are typically designed using physical modeling synthesis techniques. Not sample based. One of the benefits of this is continuous response more like the instrument being emulated compared to sample based instruments.
Thanks, guys!

Time to download some demos smile
My brother would rather die, I think, than go on stage with anything other than his Real Fender Rhodes.

A funny story: his vintage Rhodes had a problem one time before a show and somehow he got Harold Rhodes' phone number after a gigantic runaround at Fender, and Harold Rhodes actually picked up. Then he spent almost an hour on the phone with the guy, while Rhodes walked him through the rewiring process, and the whole time, my brother said, he was saying stuff like:

"YOU YOUNG KIDS TODAY! YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT PLAYING A PIANO! YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING! SEE THAT GREEN WIRE? SNIP IT AND DO WHAT I TELL YOU! DO YOU KNOW HOW TO HOLD A PAIR OF PLIERS???? DO YOU EVEN HAVE A SOLDERING IRON? YOU DO? HAVE YOU EVER PLUGGED IT IN??? KIDS!!!!!!!"

But, he helped him get it back up and running!!!

Then at the end, my brother said "I just want to thank you Mr. Rhodes. Rock and Roll wouldn't be the same without you."

And apparently Mr. Rhodes answered:

"Wrong! There wouldn't be any rock and roll period!"

Then hung up. Kids!!!!!!

smile

True story.

Great story. Puts a human being behind a legend. We tend to forget that these are real people living real lives.
I think TTS has an electric piano that is modeled after the Rhodes.

I never really liked the Rhodes sound although I did actually own and play a Fender Rhodes at one time.
