Interesting. My guitar tracks are never clean. All the FX are there from the start. Mainly the reverb.
Regarding the rest.... I do record clean BUT... as soon as I'm done with THAT track.... I assign/move it to a buss or pop in the FX I want. So that decision is made early and there is no guessing and procrastination later. I'm mixing and tweeking as I go along. When I finish the last track, the project mixing is 95% complete. It's just a matter of a tiny bit of tweeking and it's finished.
When I know I'm going to have multiple vocal tracks or guitar tracks, I set up a buss with fx for that right up front. So I simply move my clean tracks into that buss and they get the fx treatment I've set up. Simple and fast.
